Thank you for the very useful information! Pentaxians and Minolta folk are always the most helpful, least judgmental folk around!

Please forgive if this has been asked and answered, but I could not find it after searching. Will the newer 645 DA lenses work on a 645N or 645Nii? From what I have read, I think they will, but thought I would ask the experts. I played with an old Adox medium format camera this past week and have been bitten with the medium format bug. I primarily want a film camera (for now), but desire the forward and backward compatibility I believe the Pentax gear offers.. Thank you fine folk for your time!

I was in the state capital in Austin, Texas, yesterday for a meeting when I walked into a crowd of about 150 students from the University of Houston who were visiting our state's leaders. One of the students was photographing the event for the University with a Pentax K-5. Nice to see a communications major with a Pentax.

Just curious, what is and where is the biggest camera store in Texas? I am by Galveston and we do not have one nearby.

Sorry, I've got to have iced tea with my chicken fried steak. Unsweetened preferred. Come down here to Galveston to get you shrimp. It will be fresher than what you get in Weatherford. The steak in Weatherford may be fresher, though. Any way you look at it, the food in the Great State is hard to beat! Greetings from a local whose family has been flying the Lone Star since 1840!

My daughter asked me to show her how to work a "real" camera over the Thanksgiving Break. She wants to learn black and white film processing. I gave her the choice of using a Minolta SRT-102, Minolta X-700, Nikon N60, Pentax K1000, or a Pentax ME-Super. She picked the K1000. Makes a father proud. She said it was simple to use and comfortable in hand. Hard to argue with that logic. I will be using my all time favorite, the ME-Super. I may try to work a deal in the near future to divest all of the Minolta and Nikon (including digital) gear for either a K-50 or K-3 and a couple of good lenses. I have talked about it for a while, but I think the time may be right.

I don't know if this counts, but, I convinced a friend to purchase a Pentax/Ricoh WG-20 last week. She is going to Disney World in a couple of months and wanted a nice camera to take with her. Of course her friends all recommended the Canikony bridge cameras. I told her they were too bulky and not splash proof so she should check out the WG line. Shazzam!! She feel in love and bought one!

I was riding the Galveston-Bolivar (Texas, USA) Ferry across a surprisingly nice Galveston Bay this afternoon, and spotted a young lady with a child in one arm and a Pentax K10. Unfortunately, I must admit I was carrying a digital from one of the other manufacturers. I still cannot justify a digital switch (the N**** still works), but I love the ME-Super more every time I use it. I have only had for thirty years. Before long, I hope to make a switch!

One of the concerns I have is focus speed. The D-90 is okay, but it not what I would call fast. How might the K-50 compare?

You named the kit I was condidering! The weather sealing is important and the main reason for the consideration of the switch. I live on the coast and spend a lot of time photographing the bay. I like to vacation in the mountains near streams and waterfalls, so better moisture protection is something I would like to have. Thanks for your thoughts.

For the D-90 I have the kit 18-105 and the very nice 70-300 VR. I also have the SB800 speedlight. It is a nice little kit, but I would like to have a common mount (even within the limitations).

Hello Everyone!
I am a longtime Pentax analog user (and Minolta, too) who shoots with a Nikon DSLR. This is due to a business arrangement I was in for a while--the boss shot Nikon, so I obliged. Nothing wrong with the Nikon except it is not very well environmentally sealed. I have always loved the Pentax system and am considering selling the Nikon for a K-50. I would like the K-3, but with a child about to start college, the K-50 better fits the budget.
I mainly photograph landscapes, birds, macros, and buildings. Occasionally I will photograph people. Any ideas or thoughts on this kind of switch? I still have a K-1000 and an ME Super and the 28, 50, and 135 that I have always loved.
Thanks in advance,
Aubrey

I was on Spring Break this week (I am a teacher, the ones who really need the break) and saw young lady in her early twenties with a K-x in Fredericksburg, Texas! I was using one of my other system (Minolta) and was unable to speak to her. If I would have had my ME-Super, I probably would yelled across the field.

Due to education funding in Texas being on hold for a while, I am still shooting with a N----. I am extremely impressed with what I see from the K-5 II and K-5 IIS and the K 30. I absolutely refuse to part with the K1000 and ME Super I obtained in the early 1980s. The ME Super is still a dream to use. I keep hoping to make the switch to the K-5 II soon. I would love some Limited to go with it! Thanks for including those of us who are analog Pentaxians!

So far my only Pentax gear is all of the analog equipment I used beginning in 1980. I have used Olympus, Minolta, and Nikon gear as well. Currently I am shooting with a D90. It is a wonderful camera, but it lacks "soul." It is a tool and only a tool. My ME Super and K1000 have personality. I still love them. I keep saying I will switch to a Pentax DSLR, but haven't yet. I am afraid if I keep reading this forum, a K 30 or K5II may find a new home! Thanks for making an old analog guy feel at home!

Okay, this looks a lot like 25th Avenue out past the golf course in Texas City to me--0nly, it photographs much nicer! It was interesting to see not only the wonderful photo of the cattle, but to see Kemah, Lake Jackson, and FM Two-double-0-four mentioned in a post. I am in the same area as y'all and shoot with a Pentax ME-Super and K-1000. I was recently given a Minolta X-700 which is very nice, but the ME-Super is still my favorite handling camera. Y'all have a great evening and watch out for the rain tomorrow.

I went looking for a K-5 today in Houston, Texas. Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States. The only camera store that had Pentax DSLRs was a computer outlet store that had a K-X and a K-7. Neither camera had power. Every Canon, Nikon, and Sony was powered. The Olympus and Pentax were not. They had no lenses other than the K-X kit lens. THis is the only thing that scares me about Pentax in the U. S.--lack of support. I really, really like the way the K-7 handles!!

Hi All,
In the early- to mid-1980s I lived and worked in Weisbaden, Germany. I had the pleasure of working as a photographer with an organization based there in central Germany. Coming from America, where I was given much grief for using Pentax equipment to photograph professionally (until they saw the quality of Pentax glass), I was shocked to see several pros using Pentax, Olympus, and Minolta equipment. The locals told me that it seemed more an American thing to be worried about the name on the camera than the end results.
I was wondering if that is still the case? I am beginning to do some lite pro shooting again, and need a new system since Olympus seems to be going a direction I don't care for. How people use K-series dslrs professionally?

I recently spent a week in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and only saw canikons. I was there with my Olympus (new to forum--haven't purchased my Pentax dslr yet--hopefully soon) looking for Oly, Pentax, and Sony--saw none.
I was visiting Space Center Houston earlier in the summer, however, and met a man with a K-7. He gave me a quick tour and I fell in love with it!
