appreciate it man, i have been trying to work on composition and sharpness and these need a little work in both. one of the things im having the most trouble with is getting the shot as sharp as possible. I had set the camera on a sturdy ledge when taking these shots so there was little to no shake. I'll keep at it tho, just trials and tribulations of being a noob haha

Went over to the Brooklyn Bridge the other night to get some shots, if you live near NYC and haven't walked across the bridge, you need too, its absolutely amazing... on the brooklyn side theres a brand new park with an unbelievable view of the skyline, let me know how you like these few shots, and please check out the rest on my flicker Flickr: Dr.Mantis Toboggan's Photostream
Thanks,
-Nick

So i was in the city the other day and while walking down the street i saw a tiny mouse scurry by, the little guy was smaller than my pinky. i followed him for a minute and he stopped, turned around and stood there, so i slowly got onto the ground and snapped a few shots. it seemed like he was posing for me but i think he was afraid because he flinched every time the shutter went off. Granted i was about 2 inches from him so its understandable. Anyway, this made it a little tough to get a crisp shot of the little guy but this is what i came up with before he ran off...

thank you guys for your comments, i agree with everything you're saying and if i had more time i would have played around with things a little more. I took this photo at ground zero on 9/11/10 and i had to take it quick because a massive mob of protestors were coming up behind me and i had to get out quick or risk being sucked into the group hahaha. it was sort of funny but i should have went back to get a few more shots

So here is my first attempt at a diptych, im not sure how i feel about it really, i literally started using photoshop elements last week, so my editing may be a little off, i notice the noses don't line up perfectly. Anyway, let me know what u think or how i can improve, thanks guys! Diptych 1 by Dr.Mantis Toboggan, on Flickr |

so im an early stage noob and tomorrow im bringing my DSLR to the elementary school camp i work at. Can you all give me some tips on photographing kids/people/portraits? i wanna put the pics on a CD and give them to the parents, i don't need anything very specific but general rules to follow when dealing with situations like this. ill be doing some shooting outside as well as in the cafeteria, the light isn't great inside. Ill be using the kit lens but i also have a telephoto and a fisheye. Any help would be great!
Thanks guys!

thanks for all the feedback guys, for those wondering, the first picture is a candle, the second is fake grass. The grass was kind of obvious. Im working on my technical skills right now, i.e. framing and focusing and whatnot so next will be getting a better idea of the different genres.
