I don't believe Ricoh chose for it to be APS-C - I think the K-3III just happened to be the most up-to-date high-end platform they had to work with (the K-1II, though still current, is getting pretty long in the tooth now), and so that's what they based it on. If the K-1III had already been released, I'm pretty sure it would have been based on that instead - and if the K-3III Monochrome sells well, as seems to be the case thus far, then I imagine the K-1III may well be offered in a monochrome version too.
The benefits of a dedicated monochrome camera (whether it's a DSLR, mirrorless or rangefinder configuration, and whatever the sensor size) are increased signal to noise ratio, greater effective resolution and no demosaicing artefacts made possible by not having a light-hungry Bayer filter sitting on top of the sensor. The point is, for those who are seriously into B&W photography, it offers better image quality, pure and simple. Of course, it's down to the individual user as to whether they can leverage and appreciate that. For many, a more general-purpose camera with Bayer filter and mono conversion in post-processing (or in-camera) is perfectly adequate. For others, B&W is barely of interest at all. Clearly, this camera isn't for them or you - and that's fine :)

I feel like I need to explain a little.
I'm a family doc in a tiny town of 1,066 people. I have a wife and five kids ranging in ages from 3 to 16 years old and my main hobby is taking photos.
I've always awakened early in the morning -- probably dating back to my training days when rounding before the sun came up was the rule and so before they wake up, I go out and try to capture the sunrise and whatever color there is.
For me, the photograph is the goal, but the real pleasure is in the journey. Being outside early in the morning, smelling the freshly mown hay, or hearing the birds beginning to wake up, is enough for me, even if the photos don't turn out.
Then, I inflict them on the people here on the Forum. I've never sold any photos and probably never will, but it still is a very fun hobby that continues to give me pleasure after years of doing it.

I'm officially embarrassed. I enjoy photography, but as they say, it isn't my day job. Just hanging out with all of you great folks has maybe rubbed just a little bit...
Sorry, Frederic, but I have a face for radio.

You all know this superstar of our forum, in his discussions he's firmly data driven, but remains a perfect gentleman throughout.
Vincent is a doctor in rural Virginia (near the Blue Ridge Mountains) who amongst other things takes wonderfully sensitive shots of his family and the district, his Flickr is definitely worth checking out: Vincent1825 | Flickr |

No - It's nearly a condemned property. The only thing saving it from the wrecking ball is a will to preserve heritage buildings.
This is an image of the same building from a few years ago. Those historic edifices by Matt, on Flickr
The Niagara Falls Parks commission has recently opened a new power generation attraction that I have yet to go see, but its on my to do list.

Considering a vast amount of photographic gear I own ranges from common to the exotic, rare, and no longer made (I make sure it is looked after and well maintained) second-hand on Ebay, I have no doubt it would fetch a considerable amount of money*.
Would I still buy Pentax cameras? hell yes! The FA limited lenses aren't really designed to work on anything else. The only thing I would change is I wouldn't buy into Canon, not again. I would get more studio equipment and medium format digital camera gear though: Pentax, Leica and Hasselblad the kind of gear that is built to last.
*easily enough to buy a decent second house...even at current market prices.

Interesting, to hear more Daniel Ash than Peter Murphy in a song, but good stuff in any case, as long as David J is playing bass.
1986 was the summer of Bauhaus, as my roommate was a Goth who'd also been a DJ at his college's radio station, and he left campus with crates of import-only vinyl and a state of the art stereo to entertain us all. I could easily fall down the rabbit hole watching that band on YouTube, but instead I'll leave you one of my favorites: Youtu.be |

The problem with computationally derived bokeh is that it often ignores or misinterprets optical reflection, transmission and refraction. Also it often gets the transitions of blur horrendously wrong.

My wife and I visited for our honeymoon back in 2015 and absolutely loved it. We did a few days on Flores and then a week or so split across a couple of spots on Sao Miguel. For hiking and off the beaten path adventures, it ranks as one of my all time favorite trips. The landscapes are simply stunning.
And I even have a road photo to share from Lagoa do Fogo with my old K3 + 35mm Macro Limited :) |

But that's how you shoot sports and action, House. Of course I shoot in bursts. Of course, you choose the best ones for your audience. In a baseballer's pitch, it's really only the beginning of the wind up and the full release that are the shots you use anyway, you simply delete the others, they're like portraits where the subject's eyes are shut. They are of no interest, so 'spraying and praying' is not the strategy, thinking before shooting is.
And I get it wrong, letting the focus point fall on a fence post instead of a horse strap during the sequence. I also get it wrong panning one way as the subject suddenly doubles back, too. But that's on me.
If you actually shot action, you'd know that's how it goes.
Now, you can learn how to do this. I did, so anyone can. You can begin with car racing or planes taking off and landing, because their motion is so predictable.
My pictures are no different from the Canon, Sony and Nikon shooters around me. We chimp each other all the time, get the same pictures no matter the brand, and make the same mistakes.
This is with an entry level K-30 that has no subject tracking unlike my K-1, but has AF-C. It's a 70-200 f2.8, not the mighty Pentax DFA*, but an older screwdrive Tamron. |

As a Pentax (K-3) user and a Fujifilm (X-T20, X-M1) user I can confirm that the accuracy of the Fujifilm AF is far better than that on my Pentax. That's part of the nature of mirrorless cameras since you're focusing using the sensor that takes the image rather than a proxy of it.
