Anecdotes aren't data, but my experience with similar difficulties with lost date and settings came after a long period of disuse of my K-01.
I gave it several full batteries of (time-out disabled) power-on time. That is, I charged a battery and left it in the camera camera turned on, before I replaced the battery with a freshly charged one. After several repeats, the time and date began to hold again.
This won't help the cracked screen, but may keep the camera operating with less hassle.
My K-01 is my principal camera for day-to-day shooting. Short of waterproofing, it is tough as nails and has so few moving parts. I would buy another K-mount mirrorless, if there were one in full frame, Maybe a K-01 Mkii.
Good luck with yours

Rondec, I have been meaning to ask: How to pronounce the place name in your profile. Is it "glayds" "gla-dis" or "glad-s"?

As a LOOOOOng time advocate for the K-01, I have come to the conclusion that the boutique sensibility of Ricoh led them to make the early decision to produce only PENtA prism eXperiments after they inherited the K-01 commitment from Hoya.
Ricoh has made camera since the 1930's.My first SLR was a Ricoh KR-5 in 1980. I suspect that the desire of Ricoh management was to continue with one design type and not explore other options.
kind of like the mythical creature that knows one big thing: It's easy to be the best when you are also the only.

The k-01 was never a completely realized camera to my mind.
It was an incomplete concept that had so many omitted or deliberately deprecated features that it caused tremendous disagreement in The Pentax user base.
Among my chief complaints was the ridiculously slow processing speed and the {deliberately?) crippled burst mode.
Video mode? they included a dedicated video button but neglected to offer any number of video features.
Yet I love mine. It accepts all my ancient to modern lenses, fits in a big coat pocket and doesn't need a tripod to rest securely on a flat surface. Fits my hand, too.
And in the end, it was cheap.
Who wouldn't like a K-03 with a full-frame sensor, modern processor and flip screen? I'd buy three!

There's a huge difference between "Mirrorless mode" and mirrorless. Let's not talk about the extra shutter close-open cycle.
The camera size lost by dropping the mirror box is just the start.
I know, however, that the other potentials of shorter registration distance or using the open space for internal filters or non-retrofocus lenses are not going to be realized by Pentax.
My k-01 with waist-level mirror or reflex 3-d attachment is as near to my dream camera as I'm likely to afford.

Really, the "can" in my original post was putting a full-frame sensor in a mirrorless body. The Pentax side was to preserve all the old (and forthcoming) lenses compatibility.
My understanding, however, is that Pentax management has declared it will reserve the Pentax brand for old-style SLR format only, not mirrorless.
What do I get from using my well-worn K-01? It is compact enough to stick in a big pocket, capable enough to handle a huge range of shooting circumstances, honors the new esthetic of holding a view screen at arms length to shoot, rather than squinting through inescapably tiny peep hole, and it sits flat on surface in either horizontal or vertical format.
My favorite customization was adding a cheap flip mirror on the LCD to use it waist level.
And don't mistake Ricoh for a small company! The company is something like number 4 worldwide in IT and a significant office systems player. There is ample talent for developing a camera, if they wanted. They have made cameras since the 1930's, My first SLR was a Ricoh KR-5 in 1980. ---------- Post added 2022-11-02 at 04:52 PM ----------
"Seems like a solution looking for a problem. I'm sure they're the lightest, smallest full-frame MILCs in the world, ever"
The problem is getting a bigger sensor in a smaller body. The Sigma body is almost identical to the APS-C Pentax. That is my point.
My wistfulness and hesitation is that I'm not about to spend $1500 to $2500 for a lousy 9 MP. I suspect that's also why one sees so few Sigma cameras of any sort and why Pentax once was prominent supplying high-spec cameras at plebeian prices.

I have used my K-01 since it had its first price drop.
Recently, following Mike Johnston's Online Photographer, I did a comparison to the Sigma fp series.
It may be "fish and fowl" but a full frame Pentax would surely look competitive.
Sure, I could adapt my K-mount lenses to the cavernous L-mount, but I like auto focus.
Now there is little (absolutely no) hope of Pentax again trying mirrorless, but I wistfully wish they would

I'm not 100% sure Ifixed it, but...
When I had the problem of the dead internal battery/capacitor (which is it?), I set the "auto power off" to never turn-off and after a few battery drains of the main battery, it appeared to retain the date and time.
Like I said, I don't know if I fixed it, if the charge to the internal electron storing device takes a long time, or if the stars have aligned and all is well without respect to my puny efforts.
I regard the K-01 as nearly equal to my K-5iis, which is identical to the APS-c frame of the K-1.
And its cheap!
