Great photos Dan! The look of concentration on his face is priceless. Iso 3200 on that kx is so clean! Jealous of that and the 31 limited. ;)

First weekend with my K100DS. Trying to get the hang of things. :o These shots obviously aren't the best. All were taken with the 18-55 kit lens. I've been sticking to aperture priority mode mainly. I'd love any pointers or suggestions you all could offer. Thanks!
1. My wife and our dog lounging. 1/4, f/16, iso800
2. Close up of her nose. This was way overexposed so I tried some PP. :p 1/6, f/5.6, iso 800
3. Squirrel just hanging around. 1/90, f/8, iso 800 (?)
4. Butterfly by our apartment. 1/60, f/5.6, iso 400 |

Really digging both shots. I've never seen a squirrel so relaxed either, but that's usually because my dog is beside me trying to hunt them down. ;)

That third photo is awesome. It's like he is looking at you and saying "'Sup dude?"

Thanks dgaies, reeftool, and Brangdon for your replies. Good idea with the bin-liner etc. That would be handy to have with you. The hikes I take are generally short day hikes, so large amounts of camping supplies aren't needed. I agree that a backpack that is obviously camera related might be a more tempting target for thieves.

Very beautiful image. I really love the beads of water on the antennae too.

Wow. Your cat has striking eyes. I do wish there was a bit more contrast between the background and the cat though.

No! I will resist LBA! :p The fact that I came back to this thread after making my decision to talk about the 50 is not a good indication that's for sure.

We'll see how manual focusing goes. :) Would the A 50/1.7 have better IQ than the AF 50mm I suggested in my original post?

Love that bokeh. Not every day you see 5 monarchs so close together and still.

Congrats to the top 3 and all the contestants. Corey, I knew that shot was dynamite. ;) Looking forward to the next installment. My K100DS is coming this week and I will hopefully be able to participate in my first P52!

Thanks SpecialK, Lowell Goudge, and RioRico for your suggestions! I'm definitely going to pick up more Eneloops, and a BC-700 charger. Still not sure on PP Software. I plan on using iPhoto on my mac and it seems like it will be straightforward and simple...any reason not to go with that for the time being? Paint.net unfortunately is only for Windows computers (I'm running on a macbook).
Thanks to you too JeffJS! Sorry I didn't see your post earlier!

Thanks Tibbitts and bigdog104. I hadn't heard of paint.net. I'll definitely give it a look. Have FUN is probably the best suggestion yet. I will definitely take that one to heart!

Thanks so much for the detailed response opiet70! I think I tend to agree with you on all points. Your odd way of looking at things makes sense to me too. So, on the cleaning kit...a generic "Nikon" one will do just fine? Thanks again!
