Another reason they may ask the "Studio Name" is because it gets printed on the back of the photo's which is a nice touch if you were in fact selling them.

Neither do I. I just put my name as the "Studio Owner" and 1 year in business. They dont care, they just ask these questions for records keeping. I found out about this on Photofocus. I've never sold a print in my life and I got the 5 free and they were all excellent.

5 free 8x10's just for signing up. I got these a few months ago and they were great. They also send you a nice thick stack of samples of all of their paper types.

Also a DNG codec so you can natively view your RAW files on your PC:

DNG Codec - Adobe Labs

It's working great, though these files can be large so they load a bit slower.

Forgot to mention that I ran #2 through Topaz Adjust and Detail before Color Efex, which is why it has such dynamic range and fine detail. Someone told me it looks CGI and not even real! I just think it looks really CLEAN!

Can you show me where it says "Reply back with all your smart assed ignorant comments please" in my original post?

Dont automatically think that my post is in raving anger. I was being quite jocular.

Some of you people on message boards are only here looking for a fight it seems.

All I can say is well done! Cant wait to try an attempt at something similar myself. Only criticism I can give is that the image doesnt seem quite as sharp as it should. That may just come from the HDR processing though.

WTF is wrong with Pentax?

I checked all the specs on this thing before buying, but never thought to check whether or not tethering would be supported...I figured it being a "pro" level body that should be a given.

again...

1,2,5,6 I used a preset that I found on Flickr, by user Under The Waves. Cant remember which one it is but I think its the one called
Piazza Maggiore:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/infondoalmare/3809968525/in/set-72157621594169895/

3 is just a cross process preset that is built in to LR

The Dark one was just converted to black and white, and I did a little burning around the edges to get rid of some unwanted parts of the shot.

The last one is probably the one thats way too over done, but Its just adjusted for clarity and saturation.

That about settles it. I think thats the easiest way. If you are spot metering, and focusing on the center and you know that then you should always have your subject metered correctly and in focus. I like that idea and I think I'll try it for a while, and probably stick with it as well.

Thanks again.

This is great info! I have been worrying myself to death about all the options in the camera and whether or not I should leave them at default or fine tune them. I have LR3 so theres not much in the way of Lens corrections it cant do. If I stick to shooting Raw I wont have to worry about the WB or Shadow corrections or sharpening. I guess I knew the answers to this all along, but just didnt know if any of you experienced folks had any luck or found any use for any of the in camera corrections.

Anyone else who would like to add any difference of opinion or just reinforce what I'm already getting here please do so.

Also, JeffJS about the spot meter/center point AF...do you find that that set up takes care of just about any shooting situation? Say for instance I want to shoot a landscape or sunset/sunrise scene wouldn't I want to meter for the entire frame? Or should I spot meter on the center? I get that when shooting people or objects you want to spot meter, but just curious if that works just as well with a broader scene.

I would assume its because he likes to get the most shots per sequence when shooting burst mode.

Looking for a good list of setting changes if any need to be made to get the most out of this camera. Should I be using the Highlight Correction in camera or is it best to just take care of it in PP? Any other setting changes you've found to get improved IQ from the K7?

I know all of this is a matter of personal preference but I'm looking for opinions as I'm so new to photography I havent had a chance to really form any. So of any of you could offer up what you find works I can go from there.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks guys, this was a snapshot as she didnt know I was taking her picture. The background is well over exposed, next time Im in this situation I think I should under expose the background by a stop or so and then use fill flash to bring emphasis to the subject, any other suggestions on how to correct the over exposed background?

In this particular image would a little burning help the background?

Seems a little over exposed. I'd like to see more detail in the flower petals and the bee. It might actually benefit from a good cropping since the OOF background doesnt really add any thing to the picture as a whole, just drab and gray/brown. So first I'd crop it to showcase your subject more and then take down the exposure at least a stop to begin with. Afterward, I'd add a little clarity and try to bring out the fine details.

Decent composition in my (amateur) eyes. Personally I think it would have benefitted more from a simple b&w without the toning. The angle works for me, but I'd like to see more of the front of the car....not necessarily in focus but in the frame.

To me theres really nothing interesting about it at all. The first idea of photography is to start with an interesting subject. I would have focused more on the wood and the flower instead of making the wood (or whatever it is) a silhouette. The rest of the OOF part of the picture is just dark and drab and takes away from what you were trying to accomplish here. I see that you were trying to follow the rule of thirds but it just doesnt work in my eyes.
