Pentax HSS/Powersync/hypersync Off Camer Flash Tutorial

There are multiple ways in which one can interpret "HSS":
  1. a flash emits a long burst (rather than a short pulse).

  2. the camera provides a pre-sync signal to the flash in order to avoid a delayed flash and hence a black bar in the frame.

  3. both of the above.

  4. the P-TTL variant of HSS (using optical triggering, a pre-flash and 3.)

The Godox AD 360 supports 1.

The Cactus V6II makes the camera provide 2.

If one put an AD 360 on a V6II receiver then I'm pretty sure even the HSS sync-mode on the V6II would be supported. But the fact that the OP can't use HSS sync-mode does not seem to matter; PowerSync seems to be working just fine. Given that the V6II does not control the power level of the AD360, the fact that the V6II requests full power when the shutter speed is over the sync speed does not hurt.

@sbroadbentphoto
Have you tried selecting "Nikon" as the flash system on your on-camera V6II? That appears to help when using a trigger stack approach.

He is getting real HSS already with his approach as he activates the HSS mode on the flash manually.

The advantage of using a V6II receiver at the flash would be remote power and zoom control. However, only a flash like the Godox AD360IIC supports the necessary system-specific hot shoe. The regular AD 360 only supports simply triggering via the hot shoe and relies on its proprietary trigger system for further control.

OMG, I cannot believe that anyone would care that much about a bloody name. Somebody call the WAAAHHHMBULANCE.... IT'S NOT PENTAX ANYMORE......GET OVER IT, oh, and OMG...it's slightly larger, I don't know if I like that, and the grip isn't the same, what am I going to do about that...what?! no Wi-Fi built in...we're screwed, Canon is killing us...after 2 years of reading all the bitching on this forum about Pentax the name itself is synonymous with WHINERS...I preordered the K-3 btw

PS I could go on and on about this but I am sure the blanks will be filled in soon enough....

Man, I was able to make colors scream with my K-x, so I can't imagine the K-30 being any worse.

Sorry I know that was quite a rant but I'm getting too exasperated. And some people here think I'm negative, lol. Really the griping around here has gotten to absurd levels and the new cameras aren't even officially out yet! I mean Cripes, let's just expect miracles out of Ricoh-Pentax and get severely nose out of joint disappointed when they don't deliver exactly 100% of what was speculated, and the key word there is SPECULATED, in record speed time. Asking for the moon, legal, speculating that you "might" get it legal, but when you don't actually get the moon you can't then complain that you didn't get it. That's rather like asking Santa for a million bucks and crying foul when you get a $50 bill and a Satsuma orange in your stocking as usual instead. Sure, a million bucks would be nice, but take the darned $50 and eat the darned Satsuma and be grateful, darn it, laugh...

Points if you got the Satsuma reference....wink...

(The Doctor: Not bad for a man in his jim jams. Very Arthur Dent. Now, there was a nice man. Although what have I got in here? A satsuma. Ah, that friend of your mother's. He does like his snacks, doesn't he? But doesn't that just sum up Christmas? You go through all those presents and right at the end tucked away in the bottom there's always one stupid old satsuma. The Sycorax warrior gets up to attack the Doctor who launches the satsuma at a release mechanism. End of Sycorax warrior. No second chances. I'm that sort of a man.)

I've never been able to eat one of those and not think about that bit of Who ever since. The point I think The Doctor was trying to make it that those "same old, same old" things can often be more useful than you might think. It's so easy to see the humble orange as being nothing special, as useless, but when you really LOOK at it, it may be that you can get more use out of it than you might think.

I'm that way with cameras too. I don't really look at my K-x and think"Oh well it's too bad it's not a K-5." I use it to it's full capacity and I'm grateful for it. Yeah, I want a K-30 someday. Who wouldn't? But that doesn't mean I am simply going to toss one of the best little DSLR's on the planet either. The K-5 is a darn good camera. It's like a Godiva covered orange and that's still not enough? Really? Like I said. Too darned SPOILED....:P

That lens is great regardless of who's in front of it.

If we all sit down and think for a moment, surely this is the most sensible post out here.

It's interesting that we rely on the camera body so much to improve our overall photography, and it's the tool we can blame when we are not satisfied.
I've only had my K-5 sine the end of May and I think it is a great camera. Yes, "great".
Huge improvement on the K10, which I still use.

A lot of talk about people moving on to another system.
Is it really a case of keeping up with the Jones'?
Could it be peer pressure?

Looking at the PPG and "Post Your Photos" thread, I have seen some excellent photography and it makes me realise how much I need to improve, and not rely on my camera, but my own ability to actually master it.
Jumping ship will solve all of the "problems".
Ah, if only it was that simple...
