Wow, I wonder if that price is body only, lolol.
I can't wait to see the photos some pro photographers can get out of that thing.

Wow, phenomenal bokeh on going on in a few of these shots. Makes me wanna go out and purchase an f1.2 lens :)
The second shot is probably my favorite between the sharpness of the tree trunks and the lighting (I'm a sucker for that golden "sweet light" at sunrise and sunset.")

Ahhh, there's nothing better than images out of a Hasselblad.
Both pictures are stellar, but I'm especially fond of the first

I've never seen people show so much hate for a product that hasn't been released yet.

A faster shutter speed will freeze motion better, but it also lets less light hit the camera sensor. Experiment with shutter speeds, find the slowest possible speed to shoot at and still get a sharp picture.
This will allow more light to hit the sensor and therefore reduce the need to shoot at such a high ISO.

It's not a huge upgrade from the K7, but a noticeable one. With expanded ISO to 51,200 noise levels at lower sensitivities are bound to be improved over the K7.
I think it's a worth camera if you're do for an upgrade, but that being said, I don't regret waiting for this instead of buying a K7.

I would try downloading GIMP (it's free) and experimenting with some of the noise reduction plugins available for it.
Fast glass at that focal length doesn't come cheap, and it's probably overkill for taking some shots of your kids.

Thanks everyone. That right corner was exposed properly on the original photo, but the in-camera high contrast filter must have darkened it a bit too much.
It'll take me a little while to get used to the lens and all of the quirks associated with it. But all in all, I think it was a good investment :)

The first one is my favorite! I like how the fallen log draws my eye to the rest of the photo.

Alot of great responses in this thread. Thanks to everyone who contributed! :)
You guys definitely gave me a lot to consider before I decide to really take the plunge and try to make money off of my photos.

Just showed up on my doorstep yesterday. Wow, what a step up from the kit lens! About twice as big, too, lolol. I also decided to experiment with the in-camera filters on the K7. I believe this was the high contrast filter.
I sharpened it a little in Gimp also. I wish I was better at post processing, this picture has the typical K7 noise.
I'm glad that it looks like I have a good copy. Hopefully the SDM won't crap the bed on me.
Any comments? Thanks guys!

The E5 is definitely outspec'd by the Canon 7D and Sony FF A850. It seems about even with the D300s, but the availability of Nikon lenses < availability of Olympus lenses and APS-C > 4/3.
Not a wise move by Olympus IMO. They've outpriced themselves for sure. And I doubt the E5 deserves the name "pro".

Chuck,
Do you know if Pentax is still manufacturing the DA* 50-135?

That's pretty cool, I definitely would have preferred it over the 18-55 f3.5-5.6 WR.

Fosho! Spending an additional $500 on inbody SR = saving alot of dollars that would have otherwise been spent on Nikkor VR lenses.
I agree. What that website says its offering up just doesn't seem doable for $1199.
But that being said, I think $869 is a killer deal for a K7. Perhaps with more and more pros/semi pros/serious amateurs going towards full frame the prices for crop sensors are on the decline.

After I purchased my books for this upcoming semester I figured I'd go and shoot for a little while. Nothing too cool, but at least I was kind of productive.
I'd really like to come back here with a tripod and later in the day. And a wider lens!
Underexposed
I don't really like this one but I figured I'd post it anyways. I think I oversharpened it in GIMP and now it looks grainy as all hell.
Happy shooting :)

I'm looking to upgrade to two fast zooms and am having a little trouble deciding which way to go. The two focal length options I have in mind are:
18-50 f2.8 and 50-150 f2.8/50-135 f2.8
or
24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8
The lenses will probably be third party such as Sigma or Tamron. I'd prefer the smaller size lenses of the first group, but I'm concerned I'd be changing lenses more than I'd have to with a 24-70 f2.8. I'm not too worried about the wide end of the 18-50.
These will be going on a K7.
Just looking for suggestions and other points of view.
Thanks guys!

I remember seeing the one of the first sample images from the original D3, the motorcycle one, and was completely blown away. And when I read it was shot at 25,600 ISO I was even further blown away, lolol. I need to see if I can look it up.
Anyways, I find it silly that people are debating whether they should be this camera or that camera relying solely on rumors. A DSLR is a big investment, most people should be able to wait a weeks.

Thanks! I'm not quite as worried about the business side to be honest. I have no intentions of making photography my career (I'm majoring in Human Biology), but it is something I'd like pursue now while I'm young, and hopefully something I'll be able to continue doing on the side after graduation. My biggest question was exactly how to get started, but it seems like everyone has answered that question for me.. network!
Also, that's another reason why I'd use a site like Zenfolio or Smugmug, for around 10% of the profit they will receive, print, and ship the order as well as take care of any customer service. Perhaps way in the future I would prefer taking care of the printing or customer service myself, but for a way to break into the field, it seems like a pretty good deal!
Wow, I didn't even think of it like that. Thanks for keeping my head on straight, Dave!

Typically, unless you have a media pass. They go on looks alone for the most part. You can walk right by with a Leica M3 but would have to leave a K7 or KX in your car :hmm:

Thanks a bunch Clark! Perhaps it would be worth investing the extra $100 into a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 EX DG.
