I'm a bit disappointed on my k-1 I always use the tilting screen and this is one reason I wont purchase the new camera
I just prey Pentax when and if they release a new k-1 they don’t have a static screen this would turn me away from them .i love my k-1 and think Pentax area mazing but with so many cameras on the market they have to getthings spot on and price should be nearer 1500
Thanks Mike should have said uk £1500

Because their is a lot of frame space not selectable. More focus points over a larger percentage of the frame lets you compose shots in frame more easily.

There are features on my K-30 that I have never used, that's a poor argument for not including a movable screen, especially on a flagship model and especially when such a feature is already brilliantly implemented on the K-1. For a company that prides itself on designing cameras to be used handheld, that is introducing its most advanced model ever and needs to appeal to as many photography enthusiasts as possible to justify developing this model in current market conditions, not providing a movable screen is unfathomable.

definitely it's a big minus to not have that.

Still trying to understand why. It’s a beautiful camera. Why limit the users? Was it such a design throw back?

I am a little surprised that there is no built in GPS or astrotracer. I know that has been assumed for some time but I was still hoping. That kills it for me unfortunately. Seems like it will be an awesome camera though.

And I would have bought it. For you it's not necessary. For me a deal breaker. Two Pentax customers, one gone. Between the two of us, Pentax lost half their customers.

Yes it has a lot of nice upgrades, but yes it's also missing an articulating screen that would have been super helpful to many.
We don't need to battle the viewpoints we don't like, just because we don't hold them.

In this day and age to come out with a flagship Aps-c camera and not have an articulating screen doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

without GPS and without builtin flash there isn't a justification for the target price. Then the gap to the K1 is far too small, the K1 comes with GPS by default AND full frame, wo who is going to buy a K3 body when the K1 is just 25-30% more expensive?
When it's about new noise reduced / high iso sensors the K-P already has the new Sony sensor and the body is at < 900 E on the market. Without GPS. The O-GPS is abotu 200 Euro.
And about the magenesium body... I have seen just too many wrecked K50, K70, ist-dl2 and K3 where the sensor got blocked after the body hit the ground, e.g. if the camera belt glitches out of the holes. Or the mirror breaks.
What also drops my opinoin about Pentax is the mess with the solenoid in K50. In USA this would justify a class action lawsuit, on other places on the world Pentax leaves it's loyal customers alone, have to say that the old style solenoids were unbreakable.
The replacement parts sell by the thousands.
Just statement of somebody who shoots with SLR and DSLR for nearly 40 years: "upper 200.000 yen" far too expensive. 200K yen is about 1300 Euro. Upper 200K means 299K that's 2000, that is close to the K1 body which sells for 2200 Euro.
A body without GPS but all features of the K1 (then called K3 Mark III ) plus the O-GPS reaches a similar price of the K1... whose only disadvantageis that the body is bigger and heavier.
Possibly I get one of the exhibition models of K3 which are on sale here and there, for about 700 Euro. The K3 has the GPS and all I want :-)

I agree on the screen. I was taking moonshots on my k5iis last night and the articulating screen would have been great with the steep angle on the tripod.

Then there are the people who don't like screens that move? Then don't move it. I think NOT having a adjustable screen was a boneheaded move on Pentax part. Really all new cameras coming out have adjustable rear screen, its like a step back, plus no GPS. |

I'm sorry guys, I just can't get excited about a new release straight out of the Pentax cave that doesn't include some type of articulating flippy screen!
It's the one feature that I absolutely have to have on any camera. I can live without on-board Flash dual card slots and other features, but not a flippy screen.
Even though there's going to be some slick new goodies ,I have zero excitement over this camera for that one simple reason , and I think Pentax has made a huge Monumental mistake!
