Is this a shot from your newest S1 90mm? How's it working out for you?

Thanks for the welcome! This is a great place to hang out.
The FA 50mm 1.4 is my favorite for portraits. It imparts a nice quality to portraits while still capturing detail. Hope to do more soon.

Love my Vivitar Series Lenses. One of my first, experimental shots from the S1 90mm, 2.5.
Just recently picked up a S1 100-500 from a forum member and hope to have some shots from that one soon.

Thanks for the additional link. After seeing that and review all of the pictures I took of this problem, I am fairly sure it is fungus. I sent several photos to Eric, another forum member, who thinks he should be able to clean it. This would be the easiest solution since I would like to have a lens in this range. I paid more than I should have for a lens with fungus, but not as much as I would have if it were in mint condition. The seller seems willing to work with me, though so this should not be a big issue. I don't think he realized the fungus was there since it was hidden beneath a layer of grime.
The pictures look great and don't seem to be affected by this one bit. I did some test shots using a page of small text across the room, and the clarity surprised me considering the condition and the focal length.
Oh, the things we do to support our LBA. :)

Yeah, I know how to deal with the seller. It will just be a pain. With any luck he'll be cooperative. Do you think something like this can be cleaned?

Yeah, I am considering returning it, but the sellers stated No Returns in the listing, although I haven't contacted him yet. I want to know what I am dealing with first. From what I can see, the glass does not appear to be nicked, just a lot of these amoeba shaped white areas. The large one at the top has what looks like little branches protruding from the right side, although it is not showing that well in the photo. That is why I was concerned. What's strange is the outer glass looks great.

I bought a Pentax SMC-M 400mm 5.6 lens on eBay recently. Of course, the seller stated the glass was free from fungus and clean, but after receiving it and cleaning off the grime, I could see this on one of the inside elements. It is visible when light is shines through from behind and can also be seen when the angle of light from the top is just right. Does this look like fungus to anyone else but me or am I worried about nothing?
Any help or advice you can provide will be much appreciated. Attachment 77087 |

Hi,
You can change the image's base resolution to 300 dpi from 72 dpi but DO NOT resample it. By changing the photos base resolution to 300 dpi, your image measurements will shrink to a size smaller than large format.
You will not be able to increase the resolution to make it sharper at a larger size. At best, you will have the clarity/resolution of the original.
If you resample the image, you will make the file size and final print larger, but it may actually make the photo look worse. Resampling will not make the photo clearer. I would only recommend changing the image's base resolution. Your image will print smaller than if it were printed at 72 dpi.
To change the base resolution of the photo:
1. In Photoshop, go to Image>Image Size. (Under the Image drop down menu)
2. At the bottom of the image size box, there are 3 items you can check. Place a check next to Constrain Proportions. Make sure that the is NO check on Resample Image. It is OK if Scale Styles is checked.
3. To the right of Resolution, remove 72 pixels/inch. Type in the new number, 300. When you do, you will see the Document Size numbers get smaller.
4. Click OK.
Your picture will now be at a 300 dpi resolution and the outer dimensions will be smaller than they were at 72 dpi.
You will not be able to increase your resolution and keep the same dimensions on the photo.
And remember, never work directly on your original photo. Always modify a copy.
I hope this helps.
Cynthia

I just picked one of these up from a fellow member, and I am quite impressed with it. I love being able to get so close to my subject.

Looks like you do quite well with the set up you have. After I asked you about the mount, I noticed a comment you left in the lens review thread about having the C/FD mount. Good to see you can make it work.
Does the adapter effect the focusing of the lens? Which K-mount camera are you using with it?

Hi Pentaxor,
I found it by setting up an advanced search with daily notifications via email on eBay for "Vivitar Series 1 90mm". The title did not include Pentax or K mount, so I think it was missed by a lot of Pentax fans, but my search picked it up. It only took a few days for it to show up. I never saw the lens that Swift1 purchased, so who knows how that one was listed.
I see from you signature that you already have one of these beauties. Is it not a K mount?

I. too. like the original best. The others make the woman's face look too harsh.
