I'm replacing my K3 this week following a smash-and-grab robbery of my SUV on Sunday. In addition to losing the rear window and hatch of the SUV, I lost the K3 and 3 lenses.

rawr - I love the Sigma wides. And fairgrounds are great for night shooting/long exposures. Somewhere around 6 seconds seems to be the optimal amount of time to get nice light trails.
Be aware that the front element dome glass tends to pick up lens flare like crazy. Don't worry about it - just go with it and let it be part of the photo. |

Amazing photos on this page. And damn, that macro of the fly really makes me jealous, Joe.

Wow, fantastic pictures everyone! FS999, I particularly like the wide-angle shot of the church (your 3rd shot in your post).
Took this last night: a delicate dance of planes taking off from San Francisco airport.
Six photos, 80-100 seconds each, stacked and combined in Photoshop. FA 50mm lens.
It was quite windy out there (the fog was rolling in) but I found that a large umbrella makes a perfect wind-block for the camera and tripod.

August has been a very foggy month here in San Francisco. That always makes for interesting challenges when shooting long exposures at night: focusing on soft objects, keeping mist off the lens, and keeping the tripod steading in the wind that accompanies the fog bank. I'm learning that a large umbrella can be a great tool for shielding the tripod from wind-shake and keep the mist down to a minimum. |
