Hiker walking toward one of the glacial tongues of the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland. I love how the grass in Iceland turns rusty orange in the fall. Link to less compressed version.

In the past few months I've started taking portraits of people at beaches, trying to make them all match a similar style. It started at a wedding reception where I photographed a few of the guests and went from there. So far I'm pretty happy with how they've come out.

After not shooting much of anything for a month I shoot two models in one day. Go figure.
There's more on my flickr page: Flickr: Steve Losh's Photostream
Which do you think are the strongest? Critique and advice are both welcome; I want to get better.

Local retouching seems like a pretty significant feature...

I use squarespace.com to host my website and portfolio. After years of creating websites by hand I wanted something simpler that I didn't need to worry about coding. I love Squarespace; their interface is easy, the sites look good and their support has been great so far.

What to do with leftover green balloons, a green-walled bathroom, and a girl dressed in green?

To the original poster: I'm curious as to how you go about stitching the pre-HDR/blended images into panoramas so they will exactly match each other for the HDR/blending process. What do you do to prepare the three or five bracketed images?

Thanks everyone! As for the catchlights in the eyes in number two, how would I go about doing that without ruining the nice skunk-lighting in that picture?

I like the fourth one a lot; I think it might be even better if you cropped out the tiny sliver of pavement at the top of the frame. Aside from that I love it.

I did some headshots for an opera singer last week. I haven't finished processing them yet, but here's one that I just got done working on. I'd appreciate any comments and/or advice you have to give; I know I've still got plenty to learn! Chelsea on Flickr - Photo Sharing! |

I used a Sigma 70-300mm lens with a Pentax 50mm f/1.4 reverse-mounted on the front.

Sometimes underexposing by a stop or half a stop can help. To be safe you could bracket while shooting.
And shoot RAW so you have more leeway when post processing.

1: The mirror reflecting the light bothers me; I think I'd like it better if she were a little more to the right so she was between the mirror and the picture, or if she was further left and covered up the mirror entirely. I like the reflection of her legs in the floor too.
2: Awesome composition, the lines work really well. The glare on the left hand photo could go but isn't that distracting. Maybe play around with the framing so she's not right in the center? Even when she is it still works though. Also her right hand is poking up just over her head; if you moved up or down just a tiny bit I think it might look more natural.
3: Those lines work really well again. The railings, wallpaper and her limbs draw my eyes to her. The exit sign and the overhead light distract me. Photoshop could remove them without much trouble...
4: I like this one, but I'm curious. What are those colored squares along the bottom of the mirror?
5: This one seems more like a snapshot than the others do. The lines of the railings don't seem to add much to this.
6: The railings don't really add anything here either. If only they'd disappear whenever you wanted them to! The white balance in this one seems to be slightly off, or at least slightly different than the rest. The vignette compliments her pose really well. I think if you could use a strobe to isolate her from the background this would be a really awesome photo.
7: Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't this the same photo as 2?
Next time you could try some slower shutter speeds to get some motion blur as she moves. It takes practice but you can end up with a sharp dancer and a blurred arm or leg which can look really cool.

Those railroad tracks added a nice little bump that you don't usually see in these kinds of photos. Very cool.

My latest assignment for my photography class is "Landscape and Architecture." I went to Letchworth State Park in New York to practice with landscapes. They're definitely not my strong point. Any advice/critique would be highly appreciated!
