First contest entry, please forgive me if I am in violation of any specs.
Taken in San Francisco, CA 21MAY11. Photo is of the Bay Bridge with the city in the background.
Minimal editing, mainly cropping and contrast. Thanks for this contest, gents.

An amazing and compelling set of photos, sir. I do not know the situation or the news surrounding those neighborhoods but as the old cliche goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words," I feel that more apt for this set would be "a picture is worth several-hundred years."
Bravo.
also- did you use any PP to get that mellow tint there? I like the usage very much, but I don't have any PP software quite yet.

I enjoy the theme and premise of them all; 2 and 3 being most provocative.
Seems you lost some quality of the photos through whatever site you're hosting the photos from.

Great job, I agree- first one owns.
Might I ask, what shutter/fstop you were using and were you using off camera flash?
Thanks, gents.

I like the photos, 1 and 4 are my favorites.
#5 I like, but something feels missing to me.
I'd like to achieve these results someday, did you use a circular polarizer or ND filter? Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing these, the high ISO levels on the K-5 continue to impress me.
I too, enjoy the b/w version of Kong better- very classic photo looking, and the iso noise makes it seem like its from a newspaper.

Would you mind sharing what filters you used to make these shots? I'd like to try to achieve the same results.
Anything else besides a circular polarizer?

Beautiful shot, I'm jealous- I've shot the bridge MANY times and never achieved results quite like this.
#1 is my favorite, did you use a custom W/B or filter? I always get wayyy too much tungsten.

Since you were mounted on a tripod, you could've really dragged the shutter on this one; this would've helped capture the brightness of those lights.
f/14 maybe a bit much- f/8 probably would've accomplished the same depth you're looking for.
Also try a lower iso to keep the image clean 200-400 maybe.
Lots can be accomplished when using a tripod, you had the right idea! Go back out and try some other things out!

Agree with above, I think the wall from the left is a bit intrusive, but crop some of it out and I think you're money.

The first and last shot are great, DOF on the first is spot on and the last shot just has great contrast of the rust against the white brick-wall.
Bravo.

Thanks, sir. I checked those settings- and you were spot on. I can't believe how ignorant I can be about this camera still- goes to show, I've a long way to learn.
Thanks for the help, gents.

Hello All,
I was at an event yesterday, with my K7 & DA lenses. After about 6 shots, I reviewed my photos, and found that they were all black and white.
Now I know that you can apply a digital filter, and once you do so you snap a photo and it is processed as a black and white or monochrome shot- but that is applied afterwards, or even if leave the setting on, it takes at least 1/2 second to process.
But I was shooting black and white consistently, and able to shoot quickly, nothing was processing- the shots came out rather good! I went under my menu, and checked all- digital filters were off- I switched from manual mode to auto program, and still the same thing, all black and white. I finally went under the menu and hit reset under one of the tool options, and my shots returned to color.
I carry by camera via a lanyard and it dangles upside down by my waist, so I imagine, I bumped enough dials and buttons to do some kind of setting change.
Could you gentlemen please shed some light here? I'd like to know how to recreate this- this could be helpful in the future. |
