Hi everybody,
I would like to open up a thread dedicated to one topic: DA lens on Full Frame: a sticky test shots thread.
This thread shall be dedicated to test shots of a DA lens mounted to a full frame body (e.g., a film camera body). By test shot, I mean shots dedicated to evaluate the performance. Shots of ordinary subjects aren't suitable to this task, normally, and should not be posted. So, these are the rules: - K mount lens dedicated to the APS-C form factor is used.
- Image is taken full frame 36mm x 24mm.
- Lens hood was removed.
- And ideally, no filter is mounted.
- The aperture used is specified (note that film cameras don't record EXIF...).
- Sample image shows the entire field of view.
- Sample image(s) show(s) corner, border and center performance at 10MP-100% (multiple crops, or single not-resized image).
- The subject is such that resolution and vignetting at the borders can be compared to the center.
The idea behind this thread is obvious: To compile enough data to assess the spectrum of available lenses for a forthcoming full frame DSLR in K mount.

K-3 and Tamron 300 2.8 with Pentax HD DA 1.4 TC.
Anyway, the migration continues, birds are headed on their way north to their breeding territories. For days there were a few Red Winged Blackbirds hanging out with the grackles. Today most of the grackles were gone , there were a few left hanging out with the Red Winged Blackbirds.

You're already convinced to leave abandoned eggs where they lie, but I doubt the female moved it out. I suspect she was just careless once when laying.
Bird-ecdote, hopefully pictures will follow. I set up early today at the edge of a pond & swamp where a couple days back we spotted a pair of Canada geese with new chicks. They never showed up, but while waiting (eventually for two hours) I spotted two dark, black birds fighting in a dead tree that was standing in the water a long way off on the far side of the pond. As I swung the big lens around to see if I could capture anything, they fell fighting into the water amid a little bit of debris, a few floating branches. It was a pair of grackles, and the one was definitely getting the better of its opponent. It looked as though the c-b was deliberately trying to push the other bird below the water, and certainly it did so time after time. Eventually the dominating bird flew back up to a branch and shook the water out of its feathers, and the other tried to extract itself from the water, but it was having a hard time. Then the first bird, seeing the struggling, flew back down and renewed its attack, again seemingly trying to push the other grackle under water (probably the same kind of thing it would have done on land). The winning bird left again, and losing grackle renewed its efforts to get out of the water, but it failed, again and again, its feathers too water-logged for flying. It was obviously tiring. Eventually it gave up, and drowned:eek::(!
MUST CORRECT AN ERROR, and have done so in the description above. Now that I've looked at, enlarged and cropped the images it's clear (as clear as a deep crop from a zoom set @ 600mm can be) that both birds were grackles, so the cowbirds are off the hook.
Two images of the birds fighting, mostly the winner. atop, is visible.
The loser swimming away and simultaneously trying to get into the air. It never got more than about half its body out of the water.
The loser dying. A few seconds later the wing (or tail?) dropped into the water so only a black lump was visible.

Scan from a chrome, original probably taken in early 90's and probably with a Sigma 300mm f4 APO Macro. Evening light gave a golden glow, which depending on your taste is either pleasing or the wrong colors.

I woke up early today and decided to check the lake nearby behind the chain store. So many birds, but so many clouds, it was not the best morning for shooting. Anyway, just a few from today.

This is my first post in what I consider to be the most dangerous place on PentaxForums-good long glass is $$$$. I'm starting out on training wheels, with a DA 55-300mm HD WR used with a K-5, K-3 and Q7. Here are some shots with the K-5/K-3:
House Finch, Male by john m flores, on Flickr
House Finch, Female by john m flores, on Flickr
White-breasted Nuthatch by john m flores, on Flickr
European Starling, Adult transitional by john m flores, on Flickr
And here are some shots with the Q7:
House Finch, Female by john m flores, on Flickr
Savannah Sparrow by john m flores, on Flickr
Snowy Owl Scans by john m flores, on Flickr
Snowy Owl takes flight by john m flores, on Flickr
The Q7 shots are noticeably softer but I've still got to practice and maybe also accept the fact that I've got to trade in the monopod for a tripod in the field. Or I should just suck it up and get the DA300 + TC.
See, I told you this place was dangerous!

I'm using a lowepro slingshot 100 - its a good size for the lens. But I had a similar experience! Just got to be religious about pulling the zip pulls right round to the end of the zipper not leave them in the middle somewhere because they WILL come undone with the weight of the lens
