Cooled DSLR
Pentax guarantee full functionality till -10° Celsius (K7, K5, ...).
Canon guarantee full functionality till 0° Celsius.
So is it a really good idea to cool down the sensor?

@Benjikan
I don't know you, so please excuse me, if I say something what is wrong. I have to work very hard for my passion - the photography. Finally, when I am able to buy new equipment, it's an amazing feeling. Not to compare with the feeling, when someone would give me equipment as a gift.
A few time ago, I read about a photographer who build his own cams and his own lenses. He is an alcoholic, have no wife, a simple apartment but a passion - the photography. His pictures aren't glamour, but they are worth several thousand dollars.
He became famous because he went his own way. Maybe you became famous because you did the same? Maybe you became famous, because you used PENTAX primary and not other brands like all other professionals nowadays? Maybe Pentax made you famous, so it's only fair that you make Pentax famous.
I think it's the wrong way to publish such things in an internet forum. I have read, that Pentax offered you a discount for new equipment. Is that really not enough...

Both bodies are sealed and good for outdoor activities.
Olympus have a bigger sortiment with sealed lenses currently.
Pentax might have the better body.
Both brands offer a grip for AA batteries.
Which system would bring better IQ as a traveller DSLR in your opinion?

@Biro
A lens roadmap would be nice. But I guess it's too early for decisions. Pentax cannot be sure how many 645D are wanted worldwide. And we don't know much about the new DC motor concept.
The new created lens 55mm f2.8 AW for 645D has SDM, same with the DA* premium line. More important than a new lens might be the question: What to do with all the new SDM lenses? Replace the motor? Upgrade the motor? Doing nothing and hope that all things become fine?
Currently there is a big need of WR wide angle lenses for 645D and K-mount. If K5 sells well we also might hope of a DA* 18-135 f2.8 which replace the DA* 16-50 & DA* 50-135. Maybe for 1100 € late next year.

Pentax made many things fine this time. An good update of the successful kx: more colors, a colorful lens, aa-batteries. No pro DSLR, but maybe a good money maker!
And they gave us good update of the not so successful k7: better sensor, better af with a great all-day-zoom 18-135 mm. And they tried a new motor concept DC instead SDM.
Also don't forget the huge success of the new 645D and the lens 50 mm f2.8 AW (all weather). New AW lenses will coming for this system.
Pentax realized THREE concepts which might be very successful. So what do you want more?! I also wish a bigger lens sortiment (some WR limited), but all things need time. It needs amazing computer-calculations for a new lens concept. Its no work of days or weeks. Its a work of months!

I guess the K5 will become the last pro model with APS-C sensor. New lenses which will come are more and more FF compatible. There will be new lenses for the 645D, for example the 28 mm, which you can see here. www.pentax.jp/english/imaging/digital/lens/roadmap.pdf
A flash with WR would also make sense.

799,- € is a big price, but the datasheet looks very promising. I can't imagine a better traveller lens for the K5 and K7. 18-55 WR and 50-200 WR as a set is a bad compromise if you are on tour. The DA* 16-50 and DA* 50-135 have a fine IQ for zoom lenses, but we all heard about few/some problems with their SDM.
Pentax made all things right this time. They tried another motor-concept when they heard about the problems with SDM and offer us one lens instead a set. F3.5-5.6 is no world record, but imagine the price of a 18-135mm F2.8 ED AL[IF] WR DC. Only a small elite could afford it. I can live with f3.5-5.6, as long as IQ is fair for a zoom lens. The lens is no beauty, but I am out with my cam to shot pictures, not to win a contest: "who have the lens with the most golden rings".
In my opinion THIS lens will be the main reason for the success of the K5. It's great to get both as a Kit.
Anyone knows more, if the 13 elements / 11 groups is an unique construction?

@ewalk
I think it is good, that Pentax doesn't produce its own sensors. So you can grabbing the best, which is available on the market.
The grip is a solution, no grip is a better solution. Extra stuff is all size and weight which you carry around. No problem, if you drive with a car. But it might be become a problem if you take a himalaya tour (yes, there are AA batteries also at this place *g*).
And you are right. If I am at home, I would prefer maybe a set of single primes. But not for a long travel. And this DSLR could conquer one part of the market much better, without these two "weaknesses".
Thank you alot for your opinion.

K5 seems good but, I expected a bit more innovation from Pentax. Let us compare the differences between K5 and K7.
23,6 mm x 15,7 mm = 370,53 mm² (Sensor K5)
23,4 mm x 15,6 mm = 365,04 mm² (Sensor K7)
ISO 100 - 12800 (K5)
ISO 100 - 3200 (k7)
4928 x 3264 (RAW K5)
4672 x 3104 (RAW K7)
1920 x 1080 (Video K5)
1536 x 1080 (Video K7)
7,0 images/second (K5)
5,2 images/second (K7)
670 g (weight K5, rumor was 770 g)
670 g (weight K7)
77 seals (K5, rumor were 80 seals)
77 seals (K7)
SAFOX IX AF (K5)
Source for K5-Specs: http://www.priyantha.nl/GoT/Pentax_K-5/K5_specs_pg1_verkleind.jpg http://www.priyantha.nl/GoT/Pentax_K-5/K5_specs_pg2_verkleind.jpg
The K5 seems to be a TOP APS-C DSLR. But the only innovation seems to be the SAFOX IX AF, which was introduced with the great 645D months ago. Sensor is not from Pentax, so what's REALLY new?
This DSLR has two main weaknesses for a true outdoor/globetrotter DSLR in my opinion:
-> no AA batteries usable (the KR can use AA batteries but is not WR. this must be a bad joke...)
-> no superzoom IF WR for the professional photoshooter available
If you travel you need ONE lens, not a set. DA* 16-50 and DA* 50-135 have a nice IQ, but a bad SDM (I heard). Rumors about the new 18-135 WR tell us, that it might have f3.5-5.6, no IF and (maybe!) average IQ.

I hope so. I know someone who sold his whole new premium pentax equipment (K7, da* 55, da* 18-55, da* 55-135) after he tested the d700 for a weekend. I told him he should sell the body only and wait for the K5. But he didn't.
I also like the FF idea, BUT you won't become a better photographer with a bigger camera. I guess the D700 is amazing, but not amazing enough for me to sell such a great equipment. The da* 55 is already FF, a da* 18-125 which is compatible to FF would be a great next step (for the pentax user).
I wish the day will come, when people compare images, no camera sizes.

The new lens has one huge advantage: COLOR!
Remember that MOST people are NO professionals. See the world with child eyes. If a child see a lens which is black and see a lens which is colorful - what lens will end in his/her stomach then? ;-)
The most people DON'T know what f2.4 means. And when they see: Here is a black lens 35 mm, f2.0, $199 and they see a colorful lens 35 mm, f2.4, $230, they might assume: f2.4 is better than f2.0, because it's "higher".
The new lens is cheap (for pentax), easy to produce and is a good combination with the KR, because of its colors. In my opinion this lens is one of the biggest marketing gags from pentax ever. But I think a cheap, colorful zoom-lens would be a better combination for the success of the KR, because there are better solutions already - see the great Leica X1.

@illdefined
It's no rhteorical question only. Fotopunto.com: Crop factor and focal length equivalence calculator
Select the lens type -> Medium format lens
Specify the focal length of the lens -> 55 mm
Select the camera for which you want to find the equivalence -> Other "APS-C" type camera
As you can see, you cannot compare the 55mm DA* with the 55 mm MF. But is there any official statement that this adapter might be the "weak point"?

1st...
As we know there is a dustproof, weather-resistant lens for the amazing 645D.
--> Pentax announces D FA 645 55mm F2.8 lens: Digital Photography Review
If I use this lens with the upcoming K5, will this system still be dustproof + weather-resistant? I guess the K-Adapter/645 could be the weak point. Who knows more?
2nd...
Any new dustproof, weather-resistant lens for the 645D in the news?
I guess the 55mm F2.8 is the only one so far.
3rd...
I heard about a new 18-125 mmm here in Forum. Is it only wishful thinking or will it be released soon? Which specs does this lens have?
