I'm the owner of many camera bags and Crumpler shoulder bags are a great choice for situations like this. They don't look particularly like camera bags. Most of them have a plastic clip and most importantly, the world's noisiest velcro fastening! There's nobody getting in to either of my Crumplers without me hearing it. On the other hand, they're not ideal when you want to operate quietly.

Pentax 1.7x Auto Focus Adapter in a mixed lot that cost me £30 after selling the rest of the items in the lot. Sweet!

I'm normally a GX-10 user but just bought a *ist DS a couple of months ago, specifically for infrared use.

Yes, I have this lens. I'm very happy with it. It's my current favourite lens but it does have some weaknesses.
It's extremely wide and gives a whole new aspect your landscape photography. It tends to be a little soft at the edges at 10mm but this improves around 12mm. It is a rectilinear lens so you won't get the kind of distortion you get with fisheye lenses. However, you may find at 10mm you get a little distortion around the edges but unless you are taking architectural shots, this isn't usually an issue. It also gives a little bit of a hotspot for infrared photography. It's also significantly cheaper that the Pentax 12-24mm.

Yup, you're about right. I personally wouldn't used a garbage bag. Ziploc bags are much more effective.

If you are keen to get ultra-wide, you may want to also consider the Sigma 10-20mm. It's way cheaper than the 12-24 and wider. It would allow you free up some cash for the fisheye.

You'll need a P-TTL flash to make use of the flash functions of your DL. TTL does not work with any of the Pentax DSLRs except the *ist D.

I've had good experience with these. Sorry I can't be more specific but I really don't know much about batteries except these work for me.

I picked up the Sigma 10-20mm recently and although it's not perfect, it's fantastically fun to use and added a whole new dimension to my shots. I haven't had it off my camera since I bought it. Sure you'll love it.

I have one and I really love it. It does have its weaknesses: a bit soft wide open, edge distortion at wide end, can't stack filters on it, lens cap that can't be used with the hood on. Despite all that, it hasn't left my camera since I got it.

I have the GX-10. Buying it rather than the K10D was a total no brainer as far as I'm concerned. With kit lens and including cashback, it set me back £400.

These are diopters. They are essentially magnifying glasses. They are not specific to any type of lens. They simply screw on to the filter thread of any given lens. I assume these are 52mm to fit the Pentax kit lenses. They will get you greater magnification but at the cost of image quality.
Worth $30? Depends what you have already and what you intend to do with them. Might be useful if your maximum magnifcation is 1:4 from your existing lenses.

I've always had to input the converted focal length when I've used mine. Could be down to the lenses I've used it with though.

Digital. Then spend the money you'll save on film and processing on expanding your lens arsenal.

The manual always says to use Channel 2. Not sure if that will make a difference.

The Tamron equivalent of this lens is currently selling for £69.99 in the sale at Warehouse Express - Specials - warehouseexpress.com. There are plenty threads about it here - just do a search. It's widely used and most people agree it's performance is good for the price (even at it's normal price of around £110).

I've no experience of mistresses, luxury saloons or country estates, but I'll agree about the chocolate.
Seriously though, having only had a need for filters up to 58mm so far, I hadn't given that much thought to the cost. At 77mm, two good filters will cost nearly as much as lens! Ouch.

I would strongly suggest a disposition of detached smugness, knowing that you have a much higher camera to cost ratio than the Nikon/Canon users on your course.

I've done a load of searches and still can find where the GX-10 Proud Owner tag image is. Can anyone advise?
Thanks,

Bit the bullet and bought one. Expecting delivery today.
One thing to bear in mind is that it takes 77mm filters and decent ones are expensive.
