Thanks for all of the great and helpful replies! Gotta check the settings on my camera, thank you Tom Woj! And yes, I have "Understanding Exposure" too, Tonyr99.....love that book! It's been of great help and I've learned a lot. I do believe I'll still need a filter to stop down enough for that pretty-cotton-candy-effect though. Now to decide polarizing or ND......aww heck, I think I should buy both! ;) |

GREAT tips everyone! Thank you so much! I didn't consider shooting in Tv - so that should prove to be helpful. I will have to see if my camera has ISO 100 - maybe it's in an extended setting. (??) When I look at standard ISO it seems to only go as low as 200. Camera body is k-x. |

Well, I gave it a go but wasn't happy with the results. Mind you, I was with my hubby and kids, so they weren't exactly patient in my pursuits. The sun wasn't in a great spot and it was quite sunny, as well. Luckily we will be returning to the mountains quite a bit over the next 4yrs since our son is attending Appalachian State!!:D I'll post a couple of the pics - but again.....not happy with it - although I did learn a lot!
I used my tripod w/level indicator but this still seems a bit skewed. Funny enough, I think I like the one with the branches/leaves in the foreground the best. Oh well...... |

We are going to Appalachian State this weekend with our son. We want to visit a couple of waterfalls and I would love to get some pictures. I've read online that I really need a polarizing filter but I don't have one and with the time crunch, can't order online. Soooo, am I wasting my time trying to get shots of the waterfalls, without the filter? Obviously, I'll be carrying my camera anyway for other pictures but if waterfall pics will be a waste of time, I don't want to haul my tripod too.:p
Thanks for any and all responses! You all ROCK!

My girlfriend graciously agreed to let me take pics of her newborn, Alessandra. She is 3 days old here. I've never taken or edited pictures of newborns. Although this could be a better picture with more editing, they seem happy with it and the other pictures, as well. Of course, they aren't paying for them either.:p |

This is our son - decided to try my hand at his Senior pictures. I was shooting in manual, with older Pentax manual lenses. I *think* this was f2 and hubby was my assistant, holding a reflector :) I have had my k-x just about a year now and picked up the manual lens(es) this past summer on Craigslist.
*I should also mention that I didn't do a lot of PP. I'll make a few minor changes (blemish correction) before printing*

I'm out of my league on this thread but I LOVE my manual lenses!! This daffodil was so pretty, gleaming in the sun. Cropped and bumped contrast.

Well, I'm having fun taking pics with these manual lenses but I'm having a heck of a time trying to find front caps for them. Unfortunately I'm missing one rear cap (not a big deal) and no caps for the M50 and M35. The online advice is to look for the 0 with a line through it, for correct sizing. However, these lenses don't have that marking on them. Therefore, I'm not sure what size to order. I am looking on camerafitters.com and I think they will carry what I need IF I can figure out the size.
Any ideas? |

Taken yesterday. Minor corrections on each. Bumped Contrast before converting to B/W. **Need to figure out how to post smaller images/click to enlarge. Off to look for help on that but feel free to direct me to a helpful thread** |

Took this yesterday with (previously mentioned) 135mm. Subject is my unwilling teenager......ugh!
Edit**I should have mentioned only minor corrections and a little crop. |

I just picked up a few manual lenses on Craigslist for $45. I've just figured out the settings to shoot manual on my DSLR k-x but I'll pop back in when I have a couple of shots. Here's the list of lenses I picked up:
smc Pentax-M 1:2 50mm
Ashahi Optical Co.
smc Pentax-M 1:2.8 35mm
Asahi Opt. Co.
Coated Super Albinar Auto 1:2.8 f=28mm
Coated Super Albinar Auto 1:2.8 f=135mm
They are in surprisingly good condition for sitting in the guys closet, in a shoe box - no less! |

OK, I promised to post back with more information. It took myself and the seller a little while to coordinate the transaction. From the looks of things, the lenses are fungus/scratch free - there is some dust but best I can tell, it's external. I will have to clean the exterior of the lenses for sure. (any helpful information regarding cleaning is welcome):)
smc Pentax-M 1:2 50mm
Ashahi Optical Co.
smc Pentax-M 1:2.8 35mm
Asahi Opt. Co.
Coated Super Albinar Auto 1:2.8 f=28mm
Coated Super Albinar Auto 1:2.8 f=135mm
Paid $45 for all the lenses and the body, which seems to be in good condition too but I don't really have a use for it.
Thanks for all the helpful info everyone! |
