first day with the D600

Just bought the D600 and am disappointed at the lack of ease of setting up exposure bracketing. Is there a way to do a single burst of 2 or 3 bracket exposures on a tripod with a single push of the shutter button? Any way to have it take the shots after a delay? Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Has anyone sold used equipment to Adorama?

Hi,

I am a landscape photographer and have decided to go full frame. I will be buying the Nikon D600 soon. I want to sell my K-5 along with 5 lenses, flashes, etc. I tried to get a quote from Adorama's Used Dept. but they say I have to send in the equipment first (they pay shipping), they will evaluate it, and then offer me 70% of what they think is the retail value. If I don't like the quoted price they will ship it all back to me.

Has anyone here done this? Was their offer fair? Thanks for any help you can give me!

K-5 + Lee 87 Infrared Polyester Technical Filter?

Very helpful, thanks. Your IR photos are quite impressive. What kind of IR filter did you use? I'm guessing that is was not as strong as the Lee 87.

K-5 + Lee 87 Infrared Polyester Technical Filter?

I picked up the Lee 87 Infrared polyester filter to try with my K-5 knowing full well that exposures would be very long. However, when I tried out the filter today I was unable to get a decent exposure after 4 full minutes for a scene that metered at 1/125 sec. without the filter. This exposure decrease is way more severe than even the Lee Big Stopper (10-stop ND filter). Anyone else have any experience with this filter on a K-5? Is there an alternative for the Lee system that might be more reasonable in terms of shorter exposure times?

Jessop PKA/AF extension tube modification?

Okay, thanks. You would appear to be correct since all three displays show aperture info after the paint-scraping adjustment which I did after reading your message. Just out of curiosity, why would the back LCD be showing the wrong info before the modification?

Jessop PKA/AF extension tube modification?

I just picked up a set of the Jessop extension tubes for my K-5. In searching the archives it seems that a modification (i.e. scraping paint off of the extension tube ring) was thought to be necessary for the lens aperture information to be seen by the camera. However, mine seems to meter properly in both manual and aperture-priority modes except that the aperture reading is blank in the camera viewfinder but it shows properly (I think) on the LCD display. I am curious if maybe the K-5 does not need the tube modification whereas the older Pentax cameras did?

Close-up filter for Tamron 90mm

I too have a Tamron 90mm macro lens that use on my K-5. I want to get even more magnification but I find bellows and extension tubes to be too cumbersome. I do have a Tamron 1.4X teleconverter I use with a lot of success with my DA* 60-250mm telephoto lens. Does anyone know if the optical quality of the 1.4X teleconverter is better or worse than the Raynox close-up lenses for macro work?

Where to find tripod foot mount for DA* 60-250?

Okay some follow up here. I called Pentax and waited for about three weeks for the rep to get me a price and availability info on the tripod mount. She said that she thought the part was pretty expensive ($100-$150) but she would check for me promptly. When I did not hear anything back I called her two or three times and she kept promising that she would let me know something but she never followed up and overall was entirely unhelpful. So I bit the bullet and sent it in for repair. It was fixed relatively promptly by C.R.I.S. and at what I considered a reasonable price ($130). They even replaced the ring that the mount was attached to since is was very slightly deformed from the accident and they also did a general check on the lens optics. So the moral of the story is when something like this happens don't bother with the Pentax parts rep, just send it in for repair.

Hi,

Yes, I am using the one-push option that I have programmed into the Raw/Fx button. I just want to avoid having to shift to back and forth from M to Av.

I just scored a Tamron-F 1.4X Pz-AF MC4 teleconverter on ebay but it came without a lens cap so I need to buy one. Does anyone know what size cap will fit the front side?

Exposure bracketing in manual mode

Hi All,

I have begun to shoot much more frequently in manual mode with my K-5. Since I do a lot of HDR I tend to use exposure bracketing frequently as well. In the past, using the aperture priority mode, this worked great giving me a set of 3 or 5 images at the same aperture but different shutter speeds. However, when I try this in Manual mode the camera varies the aperture rather than the shutter speed to get the different exposures. Is there a way to force the aperture to remain constant when shooting exposure brackets in M mode?

Front focus with Tamron 10-24mm zoom lens

Very interesting, thanks. In my case, however, I doubt that the camera that is the problem since I did not have any focus issues with my Pentax 10-17mm fisheye lens with the same K-5 body. I am thinking that the problem must be with the Tamron lens but if anyone else has any ideas I would be very appreciative of your input.

Front focus with Tamron 10-24mm zoom lens

I just got my Tamron 10-24mm zoom and like it a lot paired with my K-5 except that if I am fully zoomed out at 10mm. and attempt to focus on a distant object near the horizon (i.e. close to infinity) the autofucus mechanism focuses quickly at about 2-3 ft. without hunting. However, it focuses perfectly on the horizon if I zoom in to 24mm. Closer objects (e.g. a few feet away) appear to focus well at any focal length, even 10mm. Does this sound like a flaw or is it just too hard for the autofocus mechanism to find distant objects when zoomed all the way out? I guess I could just try to remember to always focus zoomed in or use manual focus but I'd rather avoid these maneuvers.

Where to find tripod foot mount for DA* 60-250?

Hi, thanks, I'll just call Pentax. To answer your question, I dropped the lens as I picked up my camera bag. I think the tripod mount took the brunt of the fall since it broke at the attachment point to the lens body. Thankfully the lens seems okay. I amazed that it survived the crash landing but the tripod foot did not - yikes!

Hi,

I broke the tripod mount foot that clamps onto the body of my 60-250mm DA* zoom lens. I can't seem to find the replacement part on Pentax's website. Does anyone have a part number and/or know where I can find a replacement? Thanks!

Hi All,

I am looking for a high-quality 1.4 or 2.0X teleconverter to use with my DA* 60-250 telezoom lens mounted on a K-5 camera. From reading reviews, it seems not all teleconverters fit the K-5 mount. If anyone has a recommendation for a properly fitting teleconverter I would be most appreciative.

Katz-eye installed now the K-5 front focuses badly!

I think the calibration was $65 which included cleaning the mirror chamber. Service took only one day. I had my camera back in exactly one week but that was because I chose 2-day express air shipping both ways which added significantly to the cost.

I too bought a new focus screen (KatzEye w/ optibrite) and had a significant front focus problem. I sent the camera in to Katz for professional calibration and could not be happier with the result. The customer service was superb (thanks Rachael!).

BTW, Rachael told me that the front focus problem is quite common with Pentax cameras but she did not specify if it was only the K5/K7 or all of the DSLRs.

Bounch flash w/ P-TTL?

What aperture and ISO settings are you using when you bounce the flash? I find that I usually need to crank up the ISO to 400-800 if my aperture is stopped down more than about F5.6 or so, depending on the lighting particulars of the room. The good news is that the K5 can handle higher ISOs extremely well.

I have the K5 + 2 DA prime lenses: 16-50mm and 60-250mm. These should cover the vast majority of what you are shooting.

WHCC is awesome but for large format prints I go to my local Costco which uses a color-managed Epson 7880 which does an amazing job for next to nothing (i.e. $8.99 for a 20 X 30" print).
