I made this one:
It was "ok" but not ideal. Wouldn't do it again.

Thanks Deimos and Tuco.
Tuco, what are you using for your b&w conversions? I really like the way that chair shot looks.

I don't have any newish long exposures (this one was posted in a different topic a few months ago) but I think this shot definitely shows motion. The camera was mounted to the front car on a boom so we could get the motion in the 10 sec exposure. Sigma 10-20 on a K-5. The boom was removed in pshop. The cars really are that low... no pshop there! unicorns by ...M@..., on Flickr

Thanks!
I didn't have room to set up a bunch of lights and scrims... So I used my iPad to light-paint a 10 second exposure. :)

Not really. The cups are strong enough that we need to worry more about bending sheet metal(especially on the older cars) or leaving rings in the paint. Placement is key.
We do sometimes shoot car to car but the speeds are more like 120km per hour.... Not 1km per hour like with the rig.

Not a dumb question.
The camera is on a 16 foot boom that is attached to the car. Normally we shut the engine off and push the car so there are no vibrations, but in this shot the engine was on (thats why is isn't as sharp as it would normally be). I think the longest exposure I have done with these is around 12 sec. Some guys get into the 20s.
Example of my old rig (I have a new setup now) before I removed it in pshop: rig setup blue mk2 jetta by ...M@..., on Flickr
And the final: blue mk2 2 by ...M@..., on Flickr
And the most recent rig shot I did (posted in autos too): unicorns by ...M@..., on Flickr

Thanks!
I am really loving your long exp b&w shots. What time of day do you normally go out? Your buildings are super crisp... almost 3D. I am asking because there is a local photo contest coming up and I want to submit a shot of a newly completed building. Trying to get some ideas.
