I went out last morning looking for wild winged and/or furry creatures down on the farm. Instead, had to settle for a stemmed one...
Same originalimage, near 100% crop. |

My lens buying has slowed down as of late. Most recent was the DA 560 in January 2020, mainly for shooting birds and other wild creatures.
In 2019 I bought an FA 20-35 as a small and lightweight wide angle alternative to the DFA 15-30. At the time, was planning on doing quite a bit of travel, making this seem like a good purchase. However, the "pandemic" has unfortunately hampered those plans.

LOL...thanks Craig!
Not all that great, but here's what I was able to get from that evening. Of course, composite to get the moons to show along with Jupiter and Saturn.

Not very portable, and a bit heavy...but was solid enough for shooting Jupiter with moons and Saturn several weeks ago. Just making due with what was laying around after not being satisfied with tripod stability the night before ;) .

Fledgling barn swallows react upon seeing a parent flying nearby. Still very needy.
K1-II, 1/400 sec, f/9, ISO 4000. Shot through an open window with window sill as a steady rest.

A wren briefly pauses on a cedar tree branch before delivering lunch to its nest of chicks.
Image is heavily cropped, but still looks good.

Nebraska Governor Ricketts' Covid Emergency Declaration was issued the afternoon of March 13th. This image was captured that morning. Not the sharpest...too much haze/humidity.

My father's watch, beaten and scarred. It serves as a metaphor of him...beaten and scarred through decades of labor as a farmer and mechanic, finally retiring at age 70 and passing over at age 86. He was a good man and great example, scars and all.

I really like IR remotes, but sometimes sunshine does cause a problem (at least with the K-5 I had at the time this picture was taken). The secret to a good marriage is to always make your spouse look good...I really accomplished that outcome with this shot ;-) .

Warning - Using alcohol on the camera body is ill advised according to Pentax. From page 128 of my K-1 operating manual, "Do not clean the camera with organic solvents such as thinner, alcohol, and benzine."
This makes sense because solvents can attack/degrade certain types of rubber, potentially risking damage to the excellent weather proofing seals in Pentax cameras.
A better idea, but one requiring much more patience, would be to put your camera or lens in sunlight for a number of days (rotating it to expose all surfaces for extended periods), allowing natural UV radiation do it's magic as a natural disinfectant.

I would recommend the good old brick wall test to see if the lens has decentering issues. I suspect that it does. My copy is very sharp and has very little in the way of CA.

I used to shoot in Av mode nearly all the time. After noticing softness due to shutter shock using my FA 28-105, I've adopted shooting in TAv, typically keeping shutter set to 1/320 or faster. Huge improvement! If ISO starts to creep up beyond my preference, I either adjust EV increasingly negative, or switch mode to M and underexpose by a stop or two (or more) taking advantage of the sensor's wide dynamic range at lower ISOs. Then pull up in post with very good sharp results.
My two cents...
Daryl
