I have not tried that combination so I cannot promise that it will. From some quick googling (Sigma 150-500 and the 1.4 Sigma TC: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review) it seems as though the combination will work but you might lose HSM focussing.

Macro Grey Tree Frog. Which Crop?

Shot 1. The context is important, and the colour palette of the background complements the frog well. It's a pity, in my view, that the foot of the frog has been clipped at the bottom of the frame.

I think it needs more DoF though, particularly the nose of the frog.

Zav, apparently "gastrique" is a real term for a particular type of reduction... I dislike the way it sounds, but I'm not the chef!

Kenafin, the chef who made this studied in California, and is equally sad :(

Cmohr, agreed about the warmer tones needed (see above post, colours off because I was processing at night and forgot to shift my colour scheme back). Thanks for the other comments!!

Venturi, thanks very much. I had my evening colour profile on and forgot to deactivate it. I was wondering why the flash WB was looking strange. :).

Thanks for the comments on the composition. I was trying something a little different here. I will think about this more.

A good friend is a professional chef. This is for her portfolio. It's a Foie Gras torchon with croutons, crushed pistachio, and a cherry gastrique. Still a WIP for me. Thoughts and comments much appreciated...

I like the first two a great deal. The surprise backdrop in the first is cool -- I didn't notice the rocky cliffs at first. I like the depth of the 2nd.

Thanks for the comments :D. I pretty much followed these instructions: Strobist: How To: DIY $10 Macro Photo Studio

The bigger the box the better, but then remember you need a proportionally bigger piece of white paper for the infinite background. If ircc, these were taken with two sheets of A4 to make the backdrop.

Food How to improve my food photography?

Yeah, my idea here is really to catalogue the food I cook and bake, but doing so in the best way possible.

Aurele, I've been using one flash bounced for these shots (you can probably tell from the shadows). I think it worked better in 1 and 3, where I think the lighting is fairly balanced. The shadows in 2 are unpleasant imo. Maybe I need to take it up a gear and break out the wireless flashes from either side...

Thanks both. I should probably have been a bit more specific in my OP -- I really only intend to shoot food that I have cooked/baked and plan to eat. I've read some of this stuff about food photography before (thanks for the link though Rio, lots of detail there), but I'm trying to work within the limits of this being real food. Perhaps that is foolish.

J, thanks for the other thoughts. I agree with you about the simplicity of the images. Also, agreed about the drying out problem, especially with #2.

A collection of action figure still life shots. Lit with two wireless flashes and a home-made lightbox (highly recommended, lots of fun!). Thoughts and comments much appreciated... Full resolution images are on flickr... The details look good blown up.

Just got back from Mpumalanga in South Africa... Stunning landscapes and waterfalls! Had my trust 16 - 50 on all day long. It withstood a good battering and some waterfall spray, and turned out some lovely images:

Brilliant photos in this thread remind me just how much I love these lenses...

A little shot from my 21mm - so sharp and such beautiful bokeh and colour rendition... Gem of a lens.

Just came back from a brief trip around England... Light was quite flat a lot of the time, so went with an attempt at a 'Medium Format black and white' look. Some 1x1s and some 2x3s.

Thoughts? Any commentary much appreciated... More photos on flickr :)

DA* 16 - 50:

While it's weak in the corners at 16mm, I love how it renders black and white photographs...

I think it also does portraiture pretty well...

Also, I love the weathersealing :D
