About ready to throw the towel in on my K-5

In the beginning I loved my K-5. IT wasn't until 2 months into it when the problems started showing up and then resulted in my circuit board getting fried and needing replaced, and now that it's back after almost a 6 week wait, it has been going down hill ever since.

Nice pic. Since i've gotten my camera back from CRIS none of my photos have been sharp, they all are very soft. And I would say 2 out 10 photos are actually in focus unless i only use MF. When I have my camera set to focus on the center point, the focal point jumps all over the place, it never focus' on the center. I think they screwed something up when they put my camera back together after replacing the cirucit board.
Has anyone else had foucsing problems with their K-5?

My k-5 was on parts hold for 5 weeks waiting for a new circuit board. I was told that at the end of 5 weeks they would issue a replacement camera. But low and behold the last day the part miraculously arrived.

Good Luck

In May I had a lot of problems with my K-5 shutting itself off by itself and mirror flopping which resulted in the circuit board getting fried. Took CRIS 6 weeks to repair my camera and get it back to me. I have had it back for just about a month and have had nothing but problems since!

My photos even at 100 iso have visible noise on every picture, and I would say 1 out of 4 photos is in focus! I have checked to make sure that my af is on, and all of the other settings. I am dreading sending my camera back to CRIS, as I don't even want to guess how long it will take to get back once again! I can only imagine what they messed up with the sensor when putting my camera back together again

And for the icing on the cake, my mirror started to flop again today during the middle of a session.

This is what exactly happened to me as well! Which resulted in my circuit board getting fried! Took CRIS over 6 weeks for them to repair the camera and get it back to me because the part was on back order. Good Luck!

I do have a K-20 as a back up. But I have a few sessions coming up that are in low / funky light and that is where my K-5 excel's over the K20 as far as noise is concerned.

I just got an email from Pentax with a pre-paid shipping label. I never agreed that is what I wanted as a solution, "for my troubles" I am about to call them and tell them where they can stick that label! UGH!

So a supervisor finally called me.... 7 hours later.... for my troubles they are offering to send me a shipping label so I wouldn't have to spend the $12 to ship my camera to cris cam yet again. Ohhh gee, that's an amazing offer NOT! Foliage season is right around the corner. I cannot afford to be with out my camera again for another 5-6 weeks. I told them I believe I have a Lemon, and should either get my money back or a replacement. And of coarse he wasn't authorized to deal with such requests...

Oh and he also claims he hasn't heard anything about the mirror flop issue at all. Bull Crap!

Just called, they want me to send my camera to CRIS yet again to replace the circuit board yet again, even though this one hasn't gotten fried yet. I insisted on speaking with a supervisor and conveniently there was no supervisor available. I am emotionally done with dealing with Pentax, this is rediculous! This was my posting! I am extremely upset that after them taking over 6 weeks to fix my camera (replaced my circuit board), 3 weeks later the entire problems are beginning to repeat itself. I plan on calling pentax this afternoon, this is rediculous, I cannot go another 6 weeks without my k-5 (I do have a k20 backup), or can I afford the $100 a week for rental!

I have had my K-5 back for about a month after they replaced the circuit board, and last night in the middle of a session it started acting up again, just like it did before the board got fried the first time. I have the mirror flops like others have posted in another thread, I also have my camera set on single exposure but it will take about 3-4 when I push the shutter button. The other thing it does is when I turn the camera off- the display on the top of the camera stays on.

I fear I am about to fry yet another circuit board, and have my k20 with me at all times for back up. I am really not looking forward to another 6+ week wait to get my camera back again.

Just called yet again- my part still has not arrived. On week 5 now. I was told by the rep "he did not havea crystal ball and could not tell me when they would issue a replacement" what a load of crap!! When Asked if my replacement would be shipped on monday, he said that process could take a minimum of 15 business days. Seriously disgusted!

I recieved my K-5 rental in the mail yesterday, and today used it for 2 sessions. Stupidly, I set the camera to shoot in raw, but didn't look at the settings to make sure it was saving them in the dng file format, so now I am stuck with a card full of files in PEF files that I cannot open! ACK!
I have elements 8, and CS5 and neither will open the files. Is there a plug in I can get somewhere to be able to open these or am I S.O.L. ?

Great info. Makes me wonder if the battery issues is what caused ultimately my circuit board to get fried?

I wonder if its a charger/battery issue as well. My pentax is at criscam waiting on a whole new circuit board. They cannot pin point what caused the surge to fry my board. I keep stressing that they need to figure that out before it happens on my new one!

Anyone have a circuit board go on K-5

I wasn't having any shutter problems at all like other people have. I was in the middle of my third session of the day and right after I pushed the shutter button to take a photo and it just turned off. My first thought was that my battery had died since I had been shooting all day and didn't charge it the night before. So I used my back up to finish the session.

I do have my K20 as a back up, but I have 2 super low light sessions (homebirths) coming up and my K-5 does miles better than my K-20 in that department!

I have waited 3 weeks already, and now they said it was going to be a minimum of another 6 weeks because the circuit board is on back order. After enough pushing yesterday, there was finally a note put on my work order that said that if the part does not arrive by 8/1 to issue me a new body, but the agent could not tell me how long after that it would be for me to receive that. sigh

I kept stressing to them that they need to figure out what caused the surge for the board to go in the first place, because who is to say once the new board goes in that it will not happen again in a few short months.

Called Pentax again to hound them, I seriously cannot believe that it will take 6 weeks to get a new circuit board, and that the problem will be resolved and won't happen again.
I kept asking to speak with a supervisor and kept going up until I spoke with someone who would agree that this was a problem. They have now made a note on my work order that if my part is not in by august 1st that a new body will be issued.
But that doesn't mean a new body will be on its way come august 2nd a new body will in the mail. That could take more time. ACK- back to the 6 weeks. So calling back tomorrow to push a bit more. This is rediculous!

I just don't understand why they won't just issue a new body. Something seriously went wrong to make my circuit board go. I'm not a camera repair expert but it seems like if the brains of the camera go, then its pretty major, and who is to say their repair is going to work and it won't happen again. sigh

I didn't take it back to B&H I called Pentax when the camera originally died and they told me to send it in. Over the phone they thought it was a loose battery contact or something simple like that. Then today found out its a much more serious problem that thought.
I wish they would just issue me a new camera. Must keep hounding them!
