This weekend, I got to attend the 2016 Dayton Air Show on one of the best weather weekends that show has had in years. Unfortunately, because of the Blue Angels' recent tragic accident, they weren't able to perform this weekend. But the performers who were there put on a great show, and I was lucky to grab a few good shots.
I have created a Flickr album with some of my better shots from this weekend's air show. For all my photos, I used the smc DA 55-300mm lens on my K-3 II. Generally, all the photos were taken at f/8-f/11, where the lens is sharpest at 300mm (the focal length for most of the photos). Even at 300mm, some photos had to be pretty tightly cropped, and I really appreciated the high resolution of the K-3's sensor making those extreme crops possible and still resulting in usable images.

Excellent capture. And while I'd usually lament light domes like that in astrophotos, they seem to add some interesting horizon definition to this picture.

Nice shot!
I'm looking forward to getting some good air show photos next weekend at the Dayton Air Show.
Sadly, because of the tragedy earlier this month, the Blue Angels cancelled their performance in Dayton. Can't blame them.

Without looking for the manual, I'd guess that icon is warning you that your shutter speed will be slow enough to risk shake-induced blur. In other words, the shot you're about to take is not suitable for hand-holding, and you are likely to get a blurry image from the camera moving too much.

Here's my attempt. Just ACR adjustments, including a graduated filter to bring up the foreground a bit more.
[Edited to add] Interesting to note how the rendering shifts between what I see viewing the file in Lightroom/Photoshop and how the browser displays the same jpg. In the browser, it became noticeably less saturated.

Everything is in good cosmetic condition, and perfect working order. The camera once had the common "skipping" e-dial issue, but it was repaired and works fine now. The body has 11,900 shutter actuations, and shows no sign of mechanical or functional problems.
There is a small chip in the red finish, which is visible as a white spot on the side of the flash housing in front of the mode dial. (I suspect a bit of nail polish would make that nearly invisible.) Otherwise, it's very clean and doesn't look like it's had a hard life.
The kit lens is essentially unused. The glass is flawless.

Are you pressing the green button after setting your exposure settings? The green button can be configured to (may even default to) adjust the settings to the "program auto" baseline. Basically it's getting the camera to suggest settings. I use this feature a lot to get close to the proper exposure, but I can imagine it being quite frustrating if you weren't expecting it.

All you should need to do is change your image mode to B&W while (or before) using Live View. When not in any of the menus, just press the "right" button on the 4-way selector to enter the image tone selection. Then just change the tone to "BW" and you're set.
The process is described starting at page 205 in the manual.

Even on a parfocal zoom (focus point doesn't change as you zoom), focusing at the wide end and zooming in all the way can result in an out-of-focus subject. That's because the big depth of field at, say, 18mm allows a wide range of focus distances to look sharp. Zooming in to, say, 200mm magnifies the error, and can show that you were never precisely focused on your subject to begin with.

RBellavance gave you all the correct info, but let me give you a response to Q2 stated another way.
When you use the EV button in Manual mode, you aren't changing the exposure (or it wouldnt' be manual). Instead, you're telling the camera how over- or under-exposed you want the shot to be. Dialing in +1.0 EV using the button tells the camera to bias the meter so that "zero" is now what it considers to be one stop overexposed. You're telling the camera to set up up for an intentional overexposure.
When you adjusted your meter +1 2/3 EV, you set a target exposure that was even farther away from where you already were. So instead of the meter saying you were 1 2/3 stops underexposing, it now said you were 1 2/3 (original metering) + 1 2/3 (added offset fromt he EV button) + 1/3 (a minor fluctuation in the lighting between shots) = 3 2/3 stops underexposed. Changing your shutter speed or aperture to zero the meter from there would have left you 1 2/3 stops overexposed because that's what you asked the camera to do with the EV button.

You've got your info a bit off, there. Bother versions of the D FA 100 mm Macro have 8 aperture blades. However, the blades on the WR version are shaped in such aa way that they make a nearly perfect circle at wide to moderate apertures. So if you're shooting at, say, f/5.6, you have the benefit of a circular aperture, instead of a rounded octagon like the lens might normally have. This will affect out of focus rendering, but given that macro shots are usually taken at much smaller apertures, it may not be a big deal. Should affect portraits, however.
The other big difference between the old and new 100s is the construction. The WR lens has a metal body and feels quite solid. It is on par with the DA Limiteds in build quality, and shares the same general external design. If you're a sucker for well-built hardware, the WR is hard to pass up.

Yeah, me too. But I've never figured out how to solve my large-format printing problem. And as far as I can ascertain, big charts are necesary for complete profiles of wide-angle lenses.

I think that the dilemma as presented isn't your typical prime vs. zoom comparison, which is normally easy to settle in terms of image quality. In this case, however, you're putting a a pretty good prime lens against a zoom that has been rightfully labeled a "prime killer". The 50-135mm may be the sharpest, contrast-iest zoom Pentax has ever produced. You don't really give up much in image quality to gain a lot of flexibility in focal length range.
So in this case, you can almost (but maybe not quite) take image quality out of the equation. And aperture is already a virtual wash. The decision then comes down to the only things either lens has over the other one: size on one hand, versatility and weather sealing on the other.
I couldn't decide...I bought both.

No it won't. You can turn the focusing ring on a quick shift-enabled lens any time the AF motor isn't trying to drive it. If the motor is inactive (before the half-shutter press or after it settles into an autofocused position) you can turn the focusing ring all you want. If the motor isn't working, the lens is in "neutral".

Absolutely. I do that all the time with near-macro shots. It helps save a lot of unnecessary AF hunting when you get it close using quickshift first. Sometimes you have to, as the camera (my K-7 at any rate), will just refuse to even try to focus if it's too far off and looking at insufficient large-scale contrast.
