K3III or Kf?

For this use I would get a second-hand K-3 II, original K-3 or even K-5 series (if no need for KAF4)!
Same battery as K-1, cheap, excellent ergonomics and IQ... What's not to like?

Congrats on the purchase, you now have a perfect pair!
I don't think the order matters, but the full battery is important indeed.
Additionally, I seem to remember that the reset option still keeps a few settings, I don't remember which but it will probably be worth checking all submenus after the procedure.
Alternatively, there is an option in the hidden Debug menu to fully wipe all settings, but I don't recommend going there unless you're fully comfortable with it...

Who Does/Doesn't Post Process Their Digital Photos And To What Degree?

Agree 100%. When it starts to be difficult deleting any more, I found it helps to let the pics "rest" for a while and distance myself emotionally from them, then get back to it a few days, weeks or months later... Of course I can do it because I'm just a hobbyist and no client is waiting!
700+ photos from a holiday, I don't do that anymore. I mean I get them on the SD, but then I will delete several times until I am below 100. Not because of the PP time needed, but because nobody wants to view 700+ photos with me after the fact. Not even myself.

I always shoot RAW and actually enjoy the time spent in LR on my favorites, or on those I call the "almosts" (where the picture taken does not really match the vision I had when pressing the shutter, du to my poor technique, but I can still try to get close with PP).
The only boring part is batch editing, tagging, homogenising.
The time I spend on 1 picture on the PC can range from 10s to 1hr+ maybe? sometimes split in several sessions, and sometimes ending up with a very different result than I had initially planned (eg BW instead of colour, or harsher contrasts, or different framing).

Lens Re-Think

Unpopular opinion: get rid of the lenses you don't use or don't like.
Then and only then, with time, see what you are missing (range, speed, etc) and buy the lens that fits the bill :)
I'm saying this because everything changes, we change (as photographers) and so do our interests and priorities. Trying to buy an all-in-one perfect kit is an illusion. I know, I tried (several times actually). Lenses should be bought for a purpose, not to fill a perceived line-up gap.

Therefore, my central piece of advice is the keep the 18-135 (as you say you're satisfied with it), and the Tamron that you say you want to keep, maybe one more... but sell the 55-300 (you don't use it) and maybe also the Sigmas. It won't make you much wealthier, but simplifying your kit can provide a better connection with the gear that's left :)

Few inputs as an aside:
- between the DFA 24-70 and the DA 20-40 Limited, on a K-3ii, my choice would be very quickly made for the smaller lens as the DFA is really huge!
- you state no interest in primes, but I would still strongly suggest to get a cheap 35 or 50mm (below €$100), preferably manual (A series are the most convenient) and experiment with it. The tactile pleasure and the image quality are really something else!

And here I thought it was a clever contraction of CHecking IMages on your Pentax.
Oh well, the English language and its Internet globish newspeak derivates never cease to amaze.

My bad, the more protective law inluding all electronic appliances and mentioning the 5-years is actually French only. And even here, it was as well not in force at the time of K-1 sales.
It seems all that's left is to sympathise to the OP's mishap (brings back painful personal memories of a beloved K-5).

I see this is being requested a lot, but I suppose in Pentax view, 2 "FF 1.4 TC" exist already and they are called KF and K-3iii.
Likewise, the 2x can be achieved with APS-C + 1.4 TC... :)

Beginner Photographer with a PENTAX K-1

Hello, welcome to the forums.

First of all congratulations on your acquisition, it is an excellent choice. The K-1 is still able to offer the best image quality in a Pentax DSLR.
It is not designed as a beginner's camera, but fortunately there are many automatic modes that you can start with. I suggest to reset all settings to zero (there is a 'factory reset' option in the menu) to remove any customisation from your friend. Then, set the camera to 'P' and see how it works for you.

Now, you also have some very high quality lenses, but all of them are quite technical. They are all 'prime lenses' (ie with a fixed focal length, not zooms).
You may be missing a 'standard' one such as a 50mm prime or a 28-105mm zoom, which would be more easy to start with.
Using your current selection, I would suggest to start with the 31mm and 77mm. Put one on your camera, go out shooting for the whole day or more, see how you like it. Then repeat with the other one. You will soon find that each has its preferred uses.
When you get comfortable with both, you can start with the other two...

Good luck, and remember the most important is to enjoy the process!

All of that is very well, but how many of you once laid a K-5 down on the roof of a car, for just a second, to safely install a young kid in his seat, then hopped into the vehicle, buckled seat belt (safety first) and started driving?
Then realised something might be very wrong 20 km later?
All that near the end of a once-in-a-lifetime vacation overseas, with the SD not backed up??

... Not me for sure! I'm asking for a friend.

For the record, "he" turned around in a rush and came back but the camera was nowhere to be found, very likely to have been quickly taken away by an opportunistic person. I (oops, he) did manage to find it back months later advertised on Craigslist, discussed with the 'seller' and obtained the SD card back. But, it had been erased and only about half of the shots were restorable...

Clearly yes, there should be a market for that, considering the 'filters' people apply in smartphone photos. Lowered contrast, muted colors, veiling and flare are trendy I'd say.

Best prime between focal lengths 31mm and 43mm?

The HD FA 35 has a much improved dampening on the focus ring compared to the the smc FA.
However, it remains an AF lens and the comfort is not on par with K, M or A series. Think of it as similar to FA limiteds, or DFA 100mm WR, if you've used them.
Then, it is a plastic body. It does not look bad but kind of out-of-place on an MX. I still like it though :)

With your requirements, and if you are going to use it also on a DSLR, to me it's the clear winner.

Satisfied with my RTX 3050... It's obviously not the most high-end but it's a cost- and power- effective solution!
I get my 36mpx images denoised in under 30s (with basically instant preview), no freezing, and better fluidity in LrC navigation (on a 4K screen) as a bonus :)
And importantly enough, it fits within the 450W of my small PSU!

Yesterday night, there was an outing of the local photo club (which I'm not a member of) at the table tennis club where I play.
6 photographers took photos of players to prepare an exhibit on the Olympic sports (yes, I'm in France and Paris 2024 is approaching).
Well, the point is: 6 guys; 5 DSLRs (and 1 Fuji MILC); the DSLRs where 2 Canon, 1 Nikon, 1 K-1 (maybe II?) and 1 K-5. No Sony, no R or Z or whatever is supposed to be trending.
Granted, the sample is very small, but I'd say 2 Pentaxes make for a fairly respectable ratio :) (Edit: adding my own K-1, that makes at least 3 in a 30k-population town ;) )
And the guy with the K-1 shot most of the evening with the DFA*70-200 (first time I've seen one of those in actual life, it's a beauty).
I've never felt Pentax was disappearing here, or that Pentax users were rare, much as I hear on this Forum about the situation in North America.

The DFA 58mm f/1.9 Limited Macro (1:1), with size/weight somewhere in between the 31 and 21mm, is my prediction for this zone of the roadmap :)
To replace both the old FA 50 and the DFA 50 macro, and be the spiritual FF successor of the DA 35mm Ltd.
Of course this is based on top rated crystal ball findings.

My foolish purchase - Pentax K-3II (shutter count)

Hi and welcome, I find your English perfectly fine (but I am French ;) )
For sure this is a high shutter count, even incredible in such a good-looking condition body.
But remember that 200k is an indication of the minimum shutter life. The camera will not stop working at 200k!
Hopefully, you still have a few beautiful years ahead with it.
If you can't return it, use it (I know I liked mine very much) and enjoy each shooting day as if it was the last :)

You gotta love that quintessential rumors thread:

- reinforced by the subsequent deletion 'as if we were in a spy movie', check.
The adrenaline rush!
