K-1 with Pentax A*200 macro and Pentax AF540FGZ flash. The articulated lcd is a dream for macro.

Interestingly, my K-5 was a sensor dust magnet. The K-1II not. I do wonder why that is. I don't think there's a filter over the K-1II's sensor.

So far mine is as indestructible as my K5 still is. Make sure the buttons work, sd cards in both sides. Look at the mount, those little ball connectors. Take a lens you know it's 0 focus adjustment to see if the body is workable. Put it in live view, sr on, is the display stabilizing.

Also check for excessive sensor dust. This can be a serious issue. While a few specks here and there might be easy to clean, or deal with in post processing, a lot of particles or unremovable particles can make the purchase not worthwhile. I recently purchased a new Panasonic camera that had two pieces of unremovable dust - even a wet swab didn't work. I returned it for a replacement. Apparently, dust can become lodged between the filter and sensor so that only the manufacturer can repair it. Take two shots of a clear sky (or similar) - one at the f-stop you are most likely to use most of the time, and one stopped down to at least f/10. This will give you an idea of how dirty it is. multiple sd cards to make sure each slot is working and see if each slot does raw and jpeg

how long do you expect to have to play with it?
any possibility you could arrange to take it outside of the business and see what it can do

Examine the coupling pins on the bottom for the battery grip. Make sure all the covers/doors work. Make sure the lens release button springs back firmly when pressed. Check EACH dial for grit, ease of movement, and affirmative locking as appropriate.

All three amigos are the best lenses Pentax have made IMO, but the 43 is small, light and so handy for just about all general photography. The 77 is great for when you are shooting from more of a distance, and the 31 is awesome for non-wide landscapes and some portraiture on APS-C. Enjoy your 43. It is brilliant in every way.

I haven't shot in a while cause I'm very much a fair weather shooter, so I gave myself a little project. I wanted some pics up in my daughters play room that were kid like but had meaning. Since I drum a bit the animal and cymbal background represents me. My daughter loves cookie monster so that one represents her, and the hello kitty and pink background represents my wife who likes anything girly and pink. Anyway c&c is always welcome, I think it works as a series.

Like the B&W Itshi - the real Postman Pat used to deliver my in-laws post when they lived on top of Cartmel Fell.
A very brief period of white trees this morning in between rain/melting/general nastiness - got one or two images but nowt startling. Still playing with the 24mm f1.4

I really don't 'get' this obsession with separating the subject from the background. Most great art is contextual by nature and based on building relationships, not deleting them.
Recognizing the overall structure of a composition as opposed to seeing it as a conglomeration of separate components (or objects) is a problem for a lot of amateur artists who aren't educated in the Arts generally. Having taught Art at a Tertiary level I have found that it is a major undertaking to educate students to operating on the canvas as a whole instead of drawing tiny objects floating around in the middle of it. The subject (in a sense) is the painting/photograph and not necessarily the subject matter. One way to overcome this is to zoom in and draw close-ups that extend to the edges of the canvas thus ensuring that everything starts to relate to the edges and surface of the canvas.
Just like a painting on canvas the surface of the photograph is flat and tends to be rectangular so, as such, there needs to be structural references to that surface (and edges) so as to allow building the most powerful visual composition. Photographs are not windows but a surface and this needs to be respected to a degree IMO.
Most of us have been saying here that you need transition from *front to back* in some way (linear, DOF, overlapping shapes etc) to create this '3D' effect but I think that some people are confusing brightly lit flat-foreground-shapes contrasted with naturally lit OOF backgrounds as 3D. In this situation the 'subject' is not 3D but it's relationship to the rear space is.
IMO, subject Isolation tends not to promote this 3D affect and trying to reduce the so-called '3D effect' to a fixed formula is also not very wise.
PS: A 3D-Look can be created in a few different ways so there's really no 'one-way' to produce it and so one should give up looking for simple rules and formulae to produce it; The type of space (natural/man-made), the subject, the lens, the format etc all contribute to the possibilities. From my personal perspective, I feel that a visual 'look' should not be the sole objective of the artist anyway and that the final result should be produced from the many possible artistic questions and considerations taken into account when making an image - these should be based on the message the artist wants to get across about the subject and not style alone.
