Good suggestions Paul. I had a quick play (don't have a lot of time today) with dodge and burn in CS2, and came up with the attached. I've not used those features before, so I've probably overcooked it a bit on the lightening (and I've still not dealt with the dust spots), but I think it has potential.

Thanks for the comments. I had spotted the dust spot (in fact there is a second one on left hand side), but had not got around to dealing with them yet. Looking at the image again, I wonder if the issue is that the petal at about 5 o'clock (wrt the flower centre), which is also nearly the centre of the image, is not in focus, but should be, as it is where my eye gets drawn to.

I'd appreciate honest (but gentle, this is my first post!) view on this image please. My wife really likes it, but there is something about it that does not seem right. May be the lack of something in sharp focus? (And what is the difference between soft focus and out of focus?) . Thanks in advance.

Thanks Lowell. Having attacked the mounts with some 180 grade emery, the green button is now stopping the lens down. I think it is the data pin that needs to be grounded, which is around 5 o'clock on the lens.

That was the only difference I could see between the two. Do you know what the electrical contact is doing?

I recently bought a set of extension tubes from ebay. This set does not have the electrical contacts, but does have the levers required to operate the aperture. I understand that some functionallity will be lost.
So trying to use said tubes in manual mode on my k-x, I've come across a strange behaviour.
Using my 1.7 50mm from my old ME-Super, I can use the green button to have optical preview, and manually set aperture/speed. I hear, and see, the aperture shut down.
Putting one or more extension tubes on the same configuration, green button no longer works.
However, if I use live view, changing the aperture changes the image (but I can't work out how to meter in this mode).
And, if I take a couple of shots at different apertures, I get different exposures, so the aperture is being closed.
I get the same behaviour with my Sigma 28-135 lens.
Can anyone offer any suggestions on where I'm going wrong, or why the tubes are not fully compatible?
Thanks

My mistake - should have been MQN04 - £17 with 4 AA cells from a well known on line book seller.

When I bought my K-X it came with Alkalines, Eneloops and a Sanyo charger, model NC-MONO4B. Bit slow (recommended charge time is 12 hours I think), but the cells are great and an overnight charge is not an issue.

You could certainly buy a few sets of eneloops of $199 :). I might be missing something, but why do people buy ac adaptors for the k-x?

I was looking at some RAW (DNG) shots I'd taken yesterday, and noticed that in Bridge (CS2) that the Exif value for sharpness was 'soft'. The Pentax software reports the value as -1. Some limited web research suggests that the legal values for sharpness are 0,1,2. Is Bridge simply misinterpreting a value that is never really set? I only ask as I think the images are a little soft and need some processing to sharpen them up.
Thanks

I've been using Live View on my new K-x (tripod mounted), and occasionally the information display at the bottom of the screen flashes red. I can't find any explanation in the book, and can't fathom out the circumstances when it happens. Can someone please enlighten me.
Many thanks
