Runs fine for me on Win 10 64 bit. Only use it while experimenting with pixel shift right now. Normally process with PS Elements 14 otherwise. Cheers.

I have a Tamron 18-250 1:3.5-6.3 (IF) which I bought new about 7 1/2 years ago. It has always performed well (as a one-size-fits-all travel lens) on a K100D and a K-r until a recent trip when it began to produce some slightly out of focus shots.
I did some test shots and it seems that the autofocus is not doing well at short focal lengths and distant subjects. Here are some figures.
At 18 mm focal length: subject at 0.5 m, focus perfect; at 3 m, focuses at 2 m; at 7 m, focuses at 3 m; over 50 m, stays at 3 m.
At 50 mm focal length: subject at 0.5 m, focus perfect; at 3 m, focus perfect; at 7 m, focuses at 3-4 m; over 50 m, stays at 3-4 m.
At 100 mm focal length and above, focuses well at all subject distances.
I tested the lens on my brand new K-3 II (wow, what a camera) and got the same result so I think the problem is in the lens. There is no AF problem with the 18-55 and 55-300 kit lenses on either the K-r or K-3 II bodies, or with the new 18-135 WR (wow again).
Is it worth getting a technician to look at it? Thanks in advance, Alex

Hi all
What do you think makes the best use of the green button? I've currently got it assigned for preview but I wonder if maybe there's a better use for it.
Cheers, Alex

Hi all
I love my K-r, and use Photoshop Elements ver 8 for PP. With higher ISO shots there is (expectedly) noticeable grain. I use PSE's Noise filter to reduce the grainy effect and it mostly works quite OK.
However, I was wondering if there is a better noise reduction solution out there. What do you guys recommend?
Thanks in advance, Alex

I bought a different brand from Hong Kong, not 5 in 1 but for pentax alone with only 1 button. Cost $5.37 delivered to my door and works perfectly. You need to reach around the front of the camera, but you can make it work from the back by making a "mirror" from aluminium foil to reflect the beam from the back around the side of the camera to the front. The shape of the "mirror" is not at all critical, I found.
BTW, you can use almost any Sony brand IR remote control for TV, DVD etc - just test the buttons until you find the one that works. Guaranteed to get a laugh when you are out with the Canikons in the camera club!

After 4 months with the camera I haven't had the FF issue as far as I can tell, but pure incandescent tungsten lighting is now rare in my environment.
OOF photos occur occasionally but I can almost always trace them to user error - mostly camera shake at slow shutter speeds in lower light levels with slow lenses. I've had no trouble with it when using a tripod. I almost always shoot Av or manual.

Yes, that's right. You get the choice of pressing remote once to open the shutter and a second time to close it, OR you can set ti to have the shutter remain open as long as you hold the remote button down

Hi all
I have a new K-r, purchased 2 weeks ago. I am very happy with it. Using a Pentax 50mm F2.8 macro lens, it focusses correctly down to about EV4 without help. using a warm white compact fluoro light (I don't have any tungsten lights in my house). Below EV4 down to EV2, the focus assist light comes on and focus is fine. BTW, EV2 is too dark to read a book, so I wouldn't photograph in that light anyway.
So to answer the original thread question: yes I will keep it in spite of the FF problem that others have reported.

Thanks for the heads-up about JB's special - I was waiting for a few more months yet, but couldn't pass that up and got one yesterday afternoon. Very happy!

Thanks for the comments - they all help me to improve. I will have to read the posting guides more closely, as the exif data was lost and I didn't get the captions in with the pics.

Hi everyone
Here are some sunsets I took on a trip across the Top End last year. I would appreciate comments on how to improve the images (by cropping, colour and light management etc) and other ways to improve my photography.

Thanks for the comments. I really like the new lens but I can see that I will need to pay more attention to composing the shots. I'm learning a lot just from looking at posts here. Cheers, Alex

Hi everyone
Just got a new lens to try portraits with. Here is my grandson Jacob age 9, minimal posing and no attention to background. I was looking to bring the subject out from the background. I would appreciate your comments.

Hi John
Yes it was heavy all right. I was given it by a mate who was an engineer, and he had been taking photos of a job from a light aircraft when it hit some turbulence. The front of the lens hit the windscreen quite heavily and ever after it had a "sticky" spot in the focus - obviously some damage to the focus thread. But it still took good photos. He went out and bought a Pentax to replace it.
Cheers, Alex

Hi everyone
I'm in between casual and enthusiast - I take happy snaps, also some macro and landscape. My first 35mm camera was a Voigtlander back in the mid 60s, then a Praktika, but from the late 70s it's been Pentax. First a Spotmatic, then a P30, now a K100d. Nowadays I mostly use a Tamron 18-250 lens which is quite OK (especially as I can correct the lens distortion if necessary!) and occasionally the old Pentax-A 28-80 macro lens which doesn't have autofocus. I'm looking forward to learning much more on the forum.
Cheers, Alex
