Steve, now that's the funny part...I actually bought it through a local kijiji or equivalent to craigslist type listing. It was getting dark so I only shot a few pics wide open and did not even consider checking the aperture manually, since the seller repeatedly told me it was great working condition. The lens is spotless, looks like a new lens. I met the seller at his front yard. I then thought to myself that it would be nice to quickly grab a few more shots, but that's after the transaction. Then a big bang on my head after I shot a couple noticing overexposure by using in M mode. I called him, no reply then went back. He didn't like me, only pointed the finger at me that I probably dropped or damaged the lens. Lesson learned while buying private, fully test it and confirm it's functionality...wow, case of getting ripped off. Pretty much my problem now and looks like another $100 to fix it.

Hi, I do have the P/K-A R/K-A. I just noticed that now, was wondering what the R/K-A is for. I notice wide open exposure is spot on. Can't tell you how it's stopped down since the aperture is way to slow to give me proper exposure. I am pretty sure it's the slow diaphragm because my dof does not change even if I stop down to F22. I will definitely verify that again tomorrow morning before I send it out. Eric Hendrickson is willing to fix it, he thinks there is oil in the dia rings.

Thanks for the info. The aperture blades are clean. There is a very little bit of resistance manually exercising the aperture with the lever. Using the lens wide open I can see that this is a very good one optically, very nice contrast and colour. Just need to figure out how to make it operational.

Hello, I just bought one used but what seems like the aperture spring has deteriorated. The lens is stopping down but slow and stopping down results in over exposure.
The LENS:
Vivitar Series I 70-210 1:2.8-4.0 VMC N0. 28604524 62mm
If anyone has info in regards to repair, etc. Much appreciated.
Thank you, Eric J.

Pentax uses current technology. We all know how quickly technology changes so it's a real possibility they might incorporate a FF body or some totally different sensor technology.
I'll say: it's a possibility :)

You think so? I guess that's very subjective and there is a genre of photography like that, the subjective image or photo impressionism. I personally love this type of art, be it photography or painted...here is a quick sketch using my camera of the fall season (see below). In this example I didn't really obey every single 'rule' of photography.
On another note, there are 2,830 registered PPG photographers and around 31 here actively involved to discuss PPG. I agree that PPG has an occasional images accepted that's questionable, but that's purely a personal statement and many other people might actually find that image acceptable. |

Fair point Steve...
I have a feeling that PPG does not visually verify images before accepting. How many of those accepted are getting in with borders, or a sequence of almost identical photos. Just look at the recently added from today [as of 5:30 EST] and you'll see a bunch - some landscapes where the camera was pointed slightly to one side, for example.
As for myself, I believe in variety and that's how I build my PPG collection.

Steve...I agree with you. I guess it's up to the personality how one cares to treat the PPG. But I dislike when people express their bitter feelings towards the PPG, especially those who contribute little. It seems to me those complaining the most about PPG have nothing to do with PPG, few exceptions of course. Let that gallery be a fun one and not every photos needs to be stellar to be accepted!

I guess if you are on the street then you might want to consider the "rules" of the street. Read your local criminal code, or even a municipal (city) statute codes (by-laws as they relate to in Ontario). As an example, here in London Canada, there is a minor note whereby one has to be slightly careful photographing people in city parks. Basically the by-law states that it's unlawful (by-law reference and not criminal code) to photograph a person without permission.
Otherwise, it's photography as you choose here in Ontario as I know on any public street. But if some tough guy (cop or citizen) tells you to point the camera at the sky instead, I guess might as well follow the instruction and walk away slowly :)

Bob:
Very interesting and I fully agree...thought provoking what you wrote, thanks for that.
I'm also a big fan of Ansel Adams. I study his work and think constantly about his photographs. His work is immense; full of technical perfection and artistic perfection. He somehow managed to bring life to an otherwise boring landscape, I guess through perfection and proper timing (angle of light).
Anyhow, I also like this which you might have seen: Vincent Munier : Wildlife Photographer [it was posted on another forum, so it's not my original find]
Very different styles and approach; one is more alive and raw (Vincent), while Adams is a bit more like work of a perfectionist. I like both and I'm hugely motivated by both, and hopefully one day I might be able to develop my own approach or style.
Tx.
