Hi hwblanks I think your math is a bit off :confused:200 x 2 =400 it you take in crop factor then it's 600 but that makes 500 equate to 750
This from sigma website on the 180 f3.5 (When this lens and the 1.4x EX tele-converter are used with Minolta or Pentax cameras the lens must be focused manually. When used with the 2x EX tele-converter, the 180mm F3.5 lens becomes a 360mm F7 lens with manual focus function only, regardless of camera mount.)
Tripod
I have the bigma and I use it as a walk around lens :D yes it is heavy I tend to use it with a mono pod and rest it on my shoulder when I'm walking ;) first shot is a 50mm butterfly @500mm f8 about 3m away not cropped
the second is a 3m Aligator @ 420mm f8 about 50m away ;)

Serious lens :rolleyes:on the subject of 400's can anybody give a comparison between a SMC Pentax-FA* 400mm F5.6 ED [IF] and a Sigma 50-500. I have the later mounted on a K10D but I'm looking to Prime and the SMC Pentax-FA* 600mm F4 ED [IF] is abit out of reach

Congrats on joining the Bigma club;) the only thing I have noticed is you need to keep the shutter speed well up for any hand held work or even monopod work ;)Enjoy the new lens

My first slr was a practica which took pentax m42 thread mount lenses about 1976. I then got a secondhand Pentax Super A to which I fitted an auto winderII but it was pinched along with it's lenses  I got a canon P&S at that point but always missed SLR so I brought a DS then sold that to get the K10D  which I am really happy with:)

I like Silkypix as a raw converter this is the Engine that pentax uses in photoLab but it has a way better interface. I find it has very natural look auto setting and also it has a very good lens correction section

Hi SLC Flyfishing it is quite simple to change or take out and clean focus screens but beware DO NOT USE ANY ALCOHOL BASED CLEANER as it will make the plastic go cloudy :o:o I speak from experience :o just use water ;)
Heres a link on cleaning Katzeye screens but this applies to pentax screens also:) cleaning - KatzEyeOptics.com
And their instaltion guide with good pics ;) http://www.katzeyeoptics.com/files/PENTAX.PDF |

You are aware that the new 50-135 is SDM and for reports I've seen it is faster and all most silent :)
