Congratulations to you, and me! :D

I ordered the same kit (K-5 II + 18 - 135 lens) and it just arrived today.
Still reading the manual, but compared to my K-x this "bad boy" feels like a solid chunk of granite .

Coincidentally, I plan to give my K-x to my daughter!

This may sound a bit naive on my part, but what's wrong with the second photo? I thought that it looked pretty good. You're saying that it is underexposed, but to me that contributes to the mood.

In the first image I see what you are saying. The blue in the sky seems a bit dark. The focus point is not as evident to my eyes.

I would like to learn to how to have a "technically" critical eye when it comes to photos.

BTW, I just got a Kx last Friday and I've got a lot to learn.

You guys are awesome. I'm glad I asked before trying out the any of the lenses. I guess if I had installed one of the non Pentax lens and it had the Ricoh pin, my Kx body would have been toast!

I will check out the threads you suggested. Much appreciated.

Sears Lens Club??? Haven't looked at the link, but that's a joke, right?

New Kx owner: Old Lens Compatibility?

My first thread. :)

Just got my new Kx from B&H. I bought it with kit lens 18-55 and 55-300. This is my first dslr, however, I have Pentax 35mm cameras that I used to shoot with years ago. My old cameras (still have them) are a Pentax MX w/winder and a Pentax P3.

That leads to my question... I have an assortment of lenses that I used to uses with those bodies.

Can I used these lenses with my new Kx without concern of damage? Here are the lens:

- SMC Pentax-A 1:2 50mm
- SMC Pentax-M 1:2.8 28mm
- Tokina SD 70-20mm 1:4-5.6
- Auto Sears MC zoom35-70mm 1:3.5
- Auto Sears 1.28 f=135mm

Are any of compatible? How are they in terms of quality? Please don't laugh to much at my Sears lens. At the time, it was the best I could afford.

Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I ordered that kit yesterday, got that price, and I got a call from UPS today saying that it would be delivered today. Checked the UPS site, and sure enough, it's "Out For Delivery".

Interesting, this is the first time UPS has ever called to say that they were delivering something. Is this something that B&H initiates?

Best starting lens? Cheap body and nice lens? or nice body and okay lens?

The price has changed since you created that link. Amazon now has it available for $628.00.

I just ordered this kit today from B&H for $628.95. Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm and 55-300mm Zoom 15801 -

My first post. I'm starting here because I'm in the same place as the OP with the exception of the Kr. I was set to purchase the K7, but after much thought I'm likely to purchase the Kx. I didn't consider the Kr, because the price is really close to the K7.

It is interesting to read the comments from both Kx and K7 supporters. My appetite for tech toys desires the K7, but after viewing many of the photos taken with the Kx, I'm pretty sure it can reignite a passion that I enjoyed many years ago with my Pentax 35 mm cameras.

Right now, my thought is to purchase the Kx with the 18 - 55 & the 55 -300 lens to get my feet wet and hone my skills. If the Kx rekindles the passion, I can pickup better quality lenses as I advance. Then I can move on to the K5. :D
