The Q: Why do primes = best IQ???

I think you summed it up perfectly.

I'd also like to add that for me shooting with primes simplifies photography. You have your focal length(be it 21mm, 35mm, 50,whatever...), now go be creative with it, use interesting angles, wide apertures etc...

I'm yet to use it in really low light, but I find the AF performance is fine - ok, not as fast as the DA70, but it's older and fantastic so I'll let it off ;)

Also, manual focussing is a pleasure with it

I own the DA21, DA35 and DA70 - I just ordered the FA43. I think there's enough focal difference between the 35 and 43 to make it worthwhile - think of the 43 as teh "fast 50" you're missing (it's just that it's a few mm shorter but is a limited:) )

Look, it's your birthday, treat yourself - a limited is the only way to go here and you know it!!

I currently "dual-shoot" with Nikon and Pentax for weddings, and I quite often take the majority of shots with just primes - but I find I have to fall back on my nasty Nikon 18-70 for the wide group shots. Other than the groups, I usually put the DA70 on the K20 and a Sigma 30 1.4 on my D80 - I must say that my purchasing of the DA21 hasn't stopped the FA43 lust, it just depends on whether I can get in there before the go up (they have doubled at 90% of online retailers :(

As much as I continue to lust after the 43 (in an unhealthy way!) the simple fact is that I already own the DA35, and with limited funds available I just couldn't justify the 43. Add to that I really wanted the 21 for street shooting...

The depressing thing is that the FA43 (well, all Pentax lenses) have rocketed in price in the UK, so my chance of buying a 43 are very slim now :0(

I've never shot with one, but I just know that it would be the FA31ltd. Why do I know that? Cos I love the Sigma 30 1.4, and from what I've seen the FA31 delivers even better results

I woke up this morning thinking rationally: "I need the DA21 more.... well, I think I do!"

And now this... ok, I'll buy one, if only to make the madness stop!

PS, beautiful shot

I've been considering the DA21 or FA43 recently (while I can still get them in the UK for a decent price!) and had decided on the DA21. Especially cos I already own the DA35.

Alas common sense will go out of the window and I think I'll now be buying the 43, it's just too depressing not owning at least one of the big three!

K-7 First impressions... wow!

Will no one be happy until I put an order in??? Seriously, this is a nightmare - I can't afford this yet!!!

Being serious, great photos, I'm starting to realise just how compact the K-7 is, it is quite amazing that they've packed so much punch into something so small.

Seems like my return to Pentax was beautifully timed I'd say :0)

Don't dismiss the DA70, it's a fantastic little lens, very sharp, very "limited", excellently priced and the AF is one of the fastest on Pentax...

Sod it, any excuse to brag about owning the DA70 - it's a great lens, I love it for going walkies. Fast AF, great contrast and I think relatively cheap for what you get...

Well as it turns out the decision has been made for me - my wife ordered me the K20 + battery grip last week! It appears that my tactic of "not shutting up" has worked well for me - unless the K7 comes in under £800 it was always gonna be the logical choice to make. IF the K7 turns out to be something very special, I may ditch my D300 and commit fully to Pentax.

For now, I'm very excited at the prospect of the K20D turning up today (tho I'm at work so I won't be there to recieve it :0(

I replied with "Ok, that says enough"

Poll: Anyone wants to buy the new K-7 at this moment?

At the moment it would have to offer A LOT over the K20D - well, considering the rumoured price it would have to be twice as good! Can't see that personally!

I think I'd be better off with a K20D + DA55 (which would still leave me some change!!)

FA 43 or Tamron 28-75?

Never owned it but seen enough to be convinced that the FA43 is a classic, besides which, I'm a prime nut so I'd go with that everytime...

For the record, I owned the Tamron once, good lens... but not in the same league

Ha, your message sums it up: If I were you I'd wait . . . . but then who likes waiting!

I honestly think I'll end going the K20D + DA55 route, especially after last year standing in the rain with my D80 + Sigma 30mm shooting a wedding! I wouldn't want to do that too often.... and I'll just have to hope\pray the K-7 isn't too big a leap forward...

Oh it's a dilemma eh! Did it have that quality feel about it that the limiteds have?

I have a barrel load of decisions.
Replace my *ist D with a K20D + battery grip + FA43 or DA55 OR...... wait for the mystery to be revealed and pay wayyyyyyyyyyy over the odds to have something on day of release BUT no new lens...

Common sense obviously dictates decision number 1, but common sense sometimes seems so boring...

On the other hand, this lens tempts me so!

Post more images please!
