When you are exporting as a jpeg the file size will shrink considerably, especially as the image has very few colours.
I just tried exporting an old shot of the moon from DNG to jpeg. The DNG was 36.6 MB, the jpeg was 838 KB. It wont affect your ability to print it.

It is normal. 96% of your photo is black and therefore not much data is needed for the JPEG.

From what I understand JPG file only contains definitons of color change when it comes to pixels...and if the photo is mostly black with a small subject, the file will be much smaller than if it was a lendscape or really anything where there is a lot of shifts in color

Your image has very little information in it---very few details or color. I would expect the export to be small.

Wow. Amazing lens, great condition, and a great price. Too bad I have one already. Now I just need to take mine to Italy too :-)

Confession time.
To cut a long story short I recently returned from a 6 week holiday in Europe cruising the Danube, Main and Rhine rivers between Budapest and Amsterdam followed by trains across France, Switzerland and Italy. This journey was book-ended by stopovers at Singapore coming and going from Australia.
Imaging my shock on finding I had only one old, cheap, off market, battery in the camera.(K5 IIs) My two original Pentax batteries were safely at home, as was the battery grip. I had made an extensive list of requirements, lenses, batteries, SD cards etc for the trip but a last minute decision to take a back pack rather than a shoulder bag, resulted in me forgetting to pack the spare batteries. At least I had the charger.
Some 5000 shots later, the no name battery was still going strong. On a number of occasions, the camera was showing low battery warnings but by resisting the temptation to view images, lowering display brightness, reducing display time and even switching off the camera between shots, it never once let me down.
The best battery in the world is the one you have with you.

I fail to see how you could "compare" both lenses in any meaningful way. I mean, at 30mm and at apertures 2.8 and smaller, yes, of course, but that's besides the point in my opinion. Presumably both will deliver very satisfactory pictures in these conditions.
But...
- Do you need the very wide field of view of the zoom or do you mostly shoot it close to 30mm?
- Do you need the f/1.8 speed of the limited or do you usually use it stopped down a bit?
- Do you need a lightweight and compact lens or not?
These, and other similar questions, are the ones you should be asking yourself and only you can answer.
And your priorities will determine which lens to keep (remember the answer can be one of them, both, or none - the suggestion above to replace both by a D FA 21mm makes sense for instance - and it's available in silver ;))

I also have this lense for about one month and i'm in love with it. I'll posted these pics in the 50mm lense club, because there wasn't a thread for this lense. All pics out of cam. No crop. Exif's in the other thread. By the way, i'm a newbie and critic is welcome ;) |
