I am currently on vacation. I was in the southwest national parks and now in Las Vegas, and my K-5 is almost unusable. Heat is a Problem, and everything that generates electrical noise inside the camera. For me the worst is the AF motor, switching to MF mode reduces the problem a bit. It also occurred when I inserted a recharged battery. Still, I have the slapping problem everytime I want to take a picture...
Maybe I'll try a new battery, it is really ruining my trip. :(

At the moment my go-to Kit is 15mm 43mm, 77mm.
And I am really happy with them. On the K10D the 77mm was my favourite, now on the K-5 its the 43mm.
I never tried 40 and 70, but I used the DA 35 Macro quite a lot, and I still like the FAs more.
So in my opinion, go for the FAs, you won't regret it.

I also think its codec-related. I hear this noise on my bluray-player, who can only play the audio, not the video.
When I encoded it on my coputer, there was no noise.

Of course it is hard to rival the Limiteds in terms of image quality, but the 50-135 comes dangerously close, even when you are a pixel peeper. Especially during longer trips or vacations, it is hard to justify all the lens changing when you can keep only one lens attached. And 2.8 is not bad, especially with the K-5. ;)
So when my main purpose for the day is photography, I go with 15,(35),43,77, but especially when there are others who would have to wait for me, the DA* is just more convenient.:D

I really wonder why not more people vote for the 50-135...
For fun I play with my 43 and 77, but to be honest, the 50-135 is wayyy more flexible and just as good. It is a great lens, really.
Whatever you end up buying, be sure to consider this baby. ;)

My main camera bag (also daily bag, and was my university bag) is a Timbuk2 Originals bag. Originals means waxed canvas and metal buckles. It also sports padded laptop compartment.
If I use it for photo gear, I just stick in a cheap camera insert I bought for ~20€, not unlike the orange ebay one, but plain grey.
I found a picture via google, but if you're interested, I can make some shots with the insert.

It's quite sturdy, actually I got run over by a car while I wore this, and my laptop still works. Ok, the canvas has a few holes, but who cares? ;)
And no, I don't work for them. ;)

Hi, I just had the same problem with my K-5 v1.02. It really seems connected to the lens correction. The problem started when I mounted my FA35 for the first time.
I did a user reset (which would also turn off lens correction) and the problems are gone.

Just to show my opinion on this topic - a 100% crop from our last vacation.

A quick reply to my own question:
Bibble supports DNG, as long as it was written by the camera itself, converted DNGs are still unsupported, but according to their forum, it will be added in the future. Source |

Ok, so now Bibble 5 is out, and I am still reading postings about Bibble 5 not supporting DNG files. If i recall correctly, I used Bibble 5 yesterday to open DNGs from my Samsung GX-20, a camera that has only DNG RAWs. I only had a very short glance, but I could not see any problems...

Still, at least the 3 FA Limiteds should have been included. Those are premium lenses that are still sold, so this support would be really nice. I hope they will be added later in a firmware upgrade. :(

The increase in sensor area has to be paid. And this price increase is more than a linear increase since your sensor yield decreases to the power of 2.
If you wanted to produce round sensors, you would still pay for the area of a square around the circle, since there is no better way for placing some circles onto a disk (at least in manufacturing terms, not geometrically). This is because sensors are produced normally on 30cm-diameter wafers (silicon slices). Just imagine a bunch of stamps placed on a pizza. :D
