I have had some of the same issues posted here. A couple questions:

Is there a good resource for how to perform focus adjustments?

Does anybody have the best contact info for Pentax to ask them if I can send in for recallibration?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Should I try dialing down the mpixels to 6 or 10 to be similar to K100D?

This is interesting information. I just got a K-7 as an upgrade to my K100D and in comparison to the K100D I have been somewhat underwhelmed with the IQ of images out of the K-7 in low light. I believe my K100D is noticably better at seemingly the same settings with the same lenses in low light.

I can't figure out if it is focusing issue or noise issue, but I'm to the point where I am comparing pictures of the same subject, with the same lens on each camera and trying to get a better image out of the K-7. So far I've failed. White balance is definitely better on the K-7, but focus and noise are worse. Is this to be expected? Any suggestions?

JPEG format
FA50mm 1.4 lens
testing in ISO 800 to 1600
testing in both auto WB and also Tungsten setting

Thanks in advance,
Mike

thank you Jeffrey r and javarob75 for your feedback. I may just order both a DA40 and DA21 and will pick the one I like best and return the other!

I really REALLY want to join this club, but need some guidance. I just upgraded my K100D to a K7 and want to add some Pentax prime glass to the lineup.

I am desiring a relatively fast, lighter, walkaround lens for a more normal POV - something that will work allaround for chasing my kids, snapping the environment, and also getting some group shops (both indoor and out).

I have and love the Tamron 24-75 F2.8, but I want something smaller/lighter. I also have and love the FA50 1.4, but its a bit too long. I am thinking of these options and would like to stay within $500 US budget range (if possible)

FA35 -- probably first choice, but seems very very hard to find -- any leads?
DA40 -- I like what I see here, but I wonder if it is too close to my FA50?
DA35 macro -- seems pretty interesting, but people have widely different opinions on if good for general photography?
DA21 -- probably too wide?

Any strong opinions?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

I am no expert but I remember reading that at the lowest F-stops this lens is not performing in its sweet spot. Also, the focus and sharpness are going to be at a very specific point and everything that's even slightly more foreground or background (even as much as a nose vs. an eye) will be out of focus given the sensitivity of the f-stop. Maybe try dialing the aperture the other direction a little bit to bring more of the scene surroundings a little bit sharper.

keep in mind this is a very amateur description of something I read a while ago on this same forum. Maybe totally off base...:p

I'm really enjoying this lens. It took some getting used to, but the results have been great for me.
