I agree; its my best Takumar too. However, I nominated the Super Takumar 50/1.4 (8 elements version) as the greatest lens because not only is it a great optical design and a joy to use, it is such an iconic lens. It helped cement Pentax's reputation as a top lens designer/manufacturer. And it is one of the few Pentax/Takumar lenses that many serious non Pentax camera users know about and want to try.
Anyway, here's a recent snap to show off the pre-set Macro Takumar's image quality...I don't think I've posted it anywhere else: |

DSC07951 DSC07914 DSC07927 -- S-M-C Takumar 28mm f/3.5 DSC07958
I went too far in dressing up my takumar lenses on a red body. The M42 to C/Y adapter is now stuck on my Contax body, sometime it loosen up and sometime it get stuck. The stuck adapter reminds me of 3rd party M42 to K adapter
Now my Contax body is turned into a m42 body with a deep scratch from my attempt to remove the stuck adapter. The Takumar in the picture is the Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 with 8-element. [update] A spanner helped me to release the stuck adapter from the red Contax body. I love my Takumar and I do strange things to find a non-Pentax body to dress it up. Shame on me....
All product shots were made with S-M-C Takumar 50mm f/4.0 Macro
Cheers,

I can definitely confirm that it works with my K10D and firmware 1.31.
Create the file MODSET.TXT (not only MODSET as described above) on SD card with following content:
[OPEN_DEBUG_MENU]
The text must end with an ASCII ceriage return / line feed LR LF (that is hex code 0D 0A)
I made it by editing the file while the sd card was in the K10D and the camera was connected via USB. I used the ordinary Windows notepad.
After safing the file disconnect the camera and switch off. The debug menu opens now when you start the camera with open sd card door.

Not sure if this is surrealistic, but when messing around in Photoshop, I could tell it was different with some extreme lighting effects.

If you can't afford that 100/2, you can always try the Auto-Takumar 55/2, for the heady price of around $70. Here are a couple of my photos from the Single in October challenge: |

That's an odd quote. The company I work for processes high temperature plastics. Granted, plastic can very different than glass but having bubbles in our plastic is actually a sign of poor quality control. Bubbles will cause an inconsistency in factors such as thermal expansion and mechanical strength among other things. We get rid of them by putting the hot plastics under vacuum and the bubbles get sucked up to the top. It sort of looks like the plastic is boiling as the bubbles at the top pop. From there the plastic is ground, machined, etc. The plastic ends up being whole, solid, complete, and void-free.
I would wonder if the bubbles would cause shifts and jerks in the index of refraction as the light passes through the glass.
From my own experience I would avoid something where I could see bubbles.
