Went for another winter walk this past weekend. In the wooded areas it wasn't too bad because the trees blocked out the wind but in clearings it was quite cold. All in all it was a great day! Here is a series from the hike... Let me know what you think...

Hi All,
I am looking for an M42 screwmount to pentax K mount adapter. I live in Canada and at a few camera stores I have checked here the genuine Pentax adapter is $90! I refuse to pay that since it is only $20 at B&H. However, at B&H the shipping is $27 which seems huge. They also offer Purolator ground shipping at $9 but that will include an unknown amount of brokerage fees.
I'm not sure I want to go with an off-brand adapter since I have heard so many negative things about the non-genuine ones...
Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get this adapter cheaper in Canada or second hand at reasonable price? I checked the marketplace here and I don't see for sale at the moment.
My best bet it seems is to find a friend in NYC to buy it and mail it to me, or wait until I head down that way again and buy it myself...
Thanks in advance!

The canal is certainly less busy once winterlude is over. Feb 21st is the last day, after that the canal is open but the ice sculptures and other festivities are done. I recommend to everyone if they want to visit Ottawa in the winter, early February when winterlude is on is the best time. If you miss that though there is still enough to do as long as the skate way is open.

I had a great time doing it. My wife was pretty happy that I left her and her girlfriends to skate so I could walk around and take pictures... I actually did see 3 or 4 guys with big fancy Canons and tripods along the canal. I couldn't help but laugh a bit while pedestrians were trying to navigate round them in the dark, ice and snow. I liked being a bit more discrete :)
Thanks for the comments,
Matt

Walking around downtown Ottawa with my K-X and DA35. It was -25C but it didn't stop people from enjoying Winterlude. |

Thanks for the comments all, I have straightened it and cropped it for an 8x10 frame. I agree taking 2" off either side makes the composition a bit more pleasing to the eye.
Regarding the weather, actually that day (Dec. 20th) wasn't that cold, maybe -5C, but there was freezing rain the night before and a whole bunch of snow before that. The rocks were so cold any mist or water drops that landed on them would freeze instantly. This was the first time I had been to Niagara Falls in the winter and it wasn't busy at all. I will definitely be going again this time next year.

I also have the da35 2.4. I find it to be very sharp and contrasty on my K-X. I like it better than the Nikon 35mm 1.8 that I have used on a D90 in the past.

I think I found the nikon vr system a touch better but it's hard to say. I can say that those lenses are a good 100g heavier though :)

I for one would much rather buy off this forum than eBay or craigslist. There is a lot of junk out there. At least here it is much less likely to be hosed on a bad deal.
