For those of us (like me) who were impressed by being able to push-process Tri-X and HP5 to ISO3200, with grain the size of golf balls, the high ISO performance of current digital sensors is still impressive. The K-1 at 12,800 is highly usable, I find, but this looks even more promising for future bodies in all formats (even, dare I say it, the Q).

Some pics of Bald Eagle from June-2016. This thing just landed near the parking lot where I was parked. Camera gear all in the trunk ready to leave.
Pop the trunk open setup K-50 with SMC 500mm f/4.5 on tripod. I was lucky that it did not fly away. This Red-winged Black bird was harassing it.
It was a dark overcast. Not the best shooting conditions. Bald Eagle by Mako_Elite, on Flickr Bald Eagle by Mako_Elite, on Flickr Bald Eagle by Mako_Elite, on Flickr Bald Eagle by Mako_Elite, on Flickr IMGP3569 by Mako_Elite, on Flickr

Some handheld A/400 images between today's clouds and sun. The exif data is from A/100 since I forgot to change it trying to chase these critters.

I took these Steller's Jay pics in April-2016. Jays were munching on the suet.
Pics were taken with K-50 and Pentax SMC 500mm f/4.5. Shots are very little cropped. I haven't see them for a while since I am not putting out any suet.
Why these birds don't come just for a little visit. Take some pictures of them, and then they can fly away. Why we have to bribe them with the food :D Steller's Jay by Mako_Elite, on Flickr Steller's Jay by Mako_Elite, on Flickr

I found the Great Horned Owl brood again yesterday in the late afternoon. They are hanging around a small slough and one of the juveniles was right down on the ground close to the water. I got some photos and I tried using video with the K3 and the FA600. I wanted to show the little head bob these guys do. I posted a link to the video via YouTube. Mom is in the first photo and as can be seen the youngsters are rapidly loosing their fluffy coats for the mature feathering. Youtu.be |

Awesome pictures. Great detail and colors. Nice to see birds from the other side of the planet.
I really like the colors of the Southern masked weaver.

In June my daughter found a hummingbird's nest and I started going out every other day to keep a photo record as they progressed. From hatching till the day they left was 21 days. The mother would not come need the nest if I was anywhere near so in order to get these shots I would set up my camera with a wireless trigger and then I would go and hide behind a rock outcropping and watch the nest with binoculars. The following shots were taken on their last day in the nest as I returned the following day for one more shoot but they were gone. It was rather humorous to watch as the tiny chicks basically grew out of the nest. The last day the chicks were taking turns flexing and flapping their wings and it was quite apparent they were getting ready to go. As a point of interest after the chicks left and I measured the outside diameter of the nest, the nest had become rather misshapen and stretched as the chicks grew and still the nest was only 2 inches wide when measured on the outside of the nest. I was really fortunate to be able to watch this whole process. Doubt I'll ever see it again at least not with hummers. BTW Sig 500

I've used this page many times and have always enjoyed my visits there.
That being said, it is often nice to utilise a variety of resources when making a choice. EVEN IF Bojidar's site stays true to itself it will lose some of that "2nd opinion" it now gives. To state it differently - I consider a lens and venture here. I want a 2nd opition bdimitrov's site is great to enforce or contradict the 1st view. Maybe I'm out to lunch on that, but personally, if the only choice is here - great - keep it and maintain it and I hope all continues, but I'd personally like to see it remain separate.
We all know though, it's easy to offer an opinion while not actually helping - and I really don't want to sound negative here......

I was browsing Bojidar Dimitrov's page for years before I ever discovered Pentax Forums. I agree that we should preserve it if we can.

The black stripes on the flight and tail feathers that are perpendicular to the long side of those feathers.
Streaks are aligned with the length of the bird, whereas bars are perpendicular.

The weird thing is that USB transfer rates from the K-1 seem to be slow even by USB2 standards. I'm sure this will be improved on whatever comes next, though.
Overall, for $1799 the K-1 delivers more than anyone could ask for at that price, IMO.

I'm starting to believe the vignetting of the Pentax TC gets progressively worse with an increase in focal length.
I have no issues with my 70 and 90mm macros, and only minor issues with my 100-300. But it is just unusable with my 500.
I personally refuse to use crop mode on my K1. Makes no sense to me. If I wanted to keep shooting in APS-C, I'd break out the K3 from cold storage.
But after a month with the K1, I don't think I can go back. My K1 images have a sensuality to them K3 images just don't have.

That's a problem. I've tried to shot with K5iis, but it's not the same. I'm still waiting when an obsession :) with K-1 cools off a bit. I even thought about buying used K3. I don't like cropped format on K-1, but I don't like to shot full format with cropped lenses either. And I don't like Ricoh so far did no-thing seriously to provide with updates and selection choices.
I feel like I bought absolutely amazing last collection designer dress, but have no shoes to match. :D No damn decent shoes. ---------- Post added 06-24-16 at 10:52 AM ----------
