hi thanks for commenting
i'm seriously eyeing the lumix G7 but i have a investment in pentax and i don't need another learning curve.
I can't even get a flash t work so i cant imagine learning a new dslr os LOL! ---------- Post added 12-15-17 at 02:34 PM ----------
Hi thanks for commenting.
the 50mm 1:2 lens is an old SMC
maybe that is an issue.
I'm going to try the flash with my k-x kit lens.
If that does not work i'll just have to buy the triggers.
jeez more money!

Hi guys
i'm trying to get into speedlights off camera with my k-x
The speedlight goes off before the shutter click.
There is some kind of lag going on.
I'm using a pentax k-x with a 20mm 2.0 lens
manual mode
pentax flash menu is set to 2 controller
i'm using a new viltrox speedlight i just got from ebay
the speedlight is in slave mode
another issue is the pentax k-x won't go to wireless on the flash button menu, it's greyed out.
Can somebody please help.
Thanks

ytterbium thanks for your comment!
i tried using my 2.0 manual 50mm but gave up because i use my lcd to focus(magnified of course) so i tried the kit lens in all of the different modes.
i guess the moral of the story is that i need more accessories for the cam try to get some help so i can use reflectors and or diffusers.
Thanks

hi all and thanks for your response.
sometimes you have to shoot on other ppl's schedule. it was about 1pm and that was what i had to deal with.
as i said i shot about 250 pics, mostly i had her vogue while i hit the shutter over and over.
i just thought the pics should have been better since i had the cam on beach scene and full auto since manual was not working, in fact i tried all of the scenes and modes. why was the kx contiuously changing the exposure? even in manual! . i was so bewildered that i started to switch to my canon hv20. i swear that if i had my little kodak 1485 cam the pics would have come out better than the kx.

hi all.
I would like to get some comments and opinions on what happened to me when i did a photoshoot at he beach last week.
I do all of the photo and video work for recording artist and performer Niva. We did a phootoshoot at Riis beach, a very nice federal park in queens new york city.
I had my K-X with the kit lens and a 50mm 2.0 manual lens.
It was 104 degrees and the sun was blazing hot .
All i can say is that i feel the K-X failed me. All of my shots were coming out to bright or to dark
I could not use the lcd to focus with. i tried using the eye viewfinder and going by the beep. the focus was ok but the exposure was nuts. I tried all of the different modes including beach mode and the photos were still terrible. for one thing the KX was always changing the exposure automatically even when i had the camera in manual mode.
Niva was hot and sexy as hell and i could tell she was not happy and really pissed. i went up on the boardwalk to get away from the sand glare and shot some video but that also came out not right. Out of about 250 pics maybe 10 came out usable and that was with alot of photoshop.
I edited some video and put it on youtube but it's really not up to par for me.
well thats it.
Help me out here guys.
i think my first stop is to get a LCD viewfinder eyepiece!

Keeping moving subject in focus. Advantage goes to video cameras. the only real dslr solution is the sony a33 and a55 at this time. i think the panny GH2 may have an option to do it as well.

Hi! your footage looks great but here is my beef with many of todays filmmakers. this shallow DOF thing is out of control. You loose the context of where people are and what is going on when the entire BK is blurred. I'm writing a article on this very subject. You are very talented and very good. just think about adding context via your subjects surroundings.
thanks and Peace!

The best way in m view to work with exposure is to use a manual lens and and or use the ae/l button. The manual lenses are a pain to focus on the k-x because of the lcd resolution but all you need to do is magnify using the info button. On my video here on this forum i used a 50mm lens i got from a guy for $20. How can you beat that!
when setting exposure with a auto lens you can keep playing with the various modes and switching to video mode. While you are in av or tv or p mode hit the preview button. this ill show you what your video will look like. you can also point the camera at a light or dark area and the camera will start to adjust. when it gets the way you want it , hit the ae/l button. Hey it's a toy you got to play with it!

Hello I'll critique your so please return the favor.
it looks really good.the images fit the music nicely.
you may have wanted to high light the women's faces a little more.
as far as a advertisement tool goes it too long. shouldn't it be one min? unless hat is what hey wanted. I kept thinking some titles would pop up describing what i as looking at. so i feel that is something to put in. the images wee great and i'm going on ebay now to look for the lenses that you used. thanks!

Hey thank you for commenting.
I am disabled and use a wheelchair.
i rest my arms on the chair rests. sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I have seen alot of tv shows where they use the camera shake as a sought of effect. thats why i left it in.
I'll try to experiment with some anti shake plugins for my dvd version. thanks again!

hello
i have the k-x.
there is a menu option for the green button for dig and opt preview
i tried it but when i press the green button before shooting it does not seem to do anything
so right now i'm lost.
this feature would be such a great help if i could nail it down.
Strangely enough when i use my 2.0 50mm manual lens i get a better idea of what's going on.
thanks

when i point the camera in different directions you can see the lcd get lighter or darker but it does not seem to show what my final output will be.
how do i get the lcd to reflect what my pic or video will look like.

hey thank you for commenting and your examples were great. I would have at least liked to get the blur of the 28mm at f4 but i did not even get that.
If it is possible to see the blur in live view that would help.
i do know i must get the nd filter and longer lenses as you say.
the video looks good but just not the look i was trying to get.
thanks again

Hi all I'm having a hard time getting shallow DOF with my pentax k-x. i'm speaking mostly about video.
Im using a 50mm 2,0 pentax M lens. even when i us the kit lens the dof is still not shallow.
Here is a opening sequence to a music video i'm working on. You Tube |
src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_bGaqps7FwQ?controls=1" allowfullscreen> |
i was trying to moderately blur the background. i was about 5 feet from the characters and i believe the lens was set to f8. i'm not sure about the shutter speed.
if i set the lens to f5.6 or f4 everything is to bright.
is the live view supposed to show me the blur that will occur. what am i doing wrong?
thanks

Hello and thanks for your reponse. i forgot to mention i was using the K-X. Everything looks well lit in live view but on review it can be to light or to dark, even if i lock exposure live view continually gets brighter or darker depending on where i point the camera.
Very frustrating!
