Again, I said I wasn't trying to be rude, but if you read the rules at the top of the for sale section, there are specific points about commenting on peoples pricing and what not. Plus linking to alternative bags inside my for sale thread is less than helpful.
You've posted 4 times in my for sale thread. None of which are legitimate inquiries about buying the item or interest in the item. Most forums call this "post dumping" and frown on it.
Sorry, but I just don't see how the posts are helpful to my "for sale thread" It's not a discussion thread for the massess, it's a thread for me to try to sell something to someone that wants to buy it.
Regards.

Well, looks like after 5 months since my last visit, not much has changed. I just saw for the first time yesterday that Nikon had the D700 out, which pretty much shocked me. Other than price, what an awesome camera. Figured by now I'd find something similar from Pentax, so I logged into the forum to see what is new. Find something on FF in the news section, and as it would be it looks like we are talking about a 645 again.
I'm not in the market right now, but am disappointed that there isn't a pentax version of the 5d and now 700d. A full frame sensor in a normal 35mm digital sized body. hmmmm............
Guess I just need to go away from the camera forums and news stands for 5 or 6 years next time, instead of 5 or 6 months, and maybe Pentax will have a clue by then.

Same here, as if price is not too much more and size is not too much more, this might become a replacement option for my 43. I like the fact that it's sealed, has digital optimized coatings and SDM motor.
My 43 is great and I love it to death, but I'd very much like to consider this 55 as a possible alternative for the above reasons. :)

Yeah, it didn't take me long to decide that while the picture quality was nice, I really just didn't want the lens bulk and for some reason I'm just having a love affair with my 43 limited I guess. I just get the nicest, well rendered and colored and sharp shots of my son using that lens, and the size factor is the biggest bonus.
Now I guess I've just got to start forcing myself to use it for something other than a million shots of my 2 year old because it really is such a nice lens.
Glad I at least tried the Tammy so now I don't have to keep on wondering. I think what this leaves me with is to use the 43 for a while.
I spent a year with nothing but the kit lens and the 70. Ordered a 40, and instantly sold it and ordered a 43. Very smart move for me as I very much prefer the 43.
The 43 started the itch for the 77 and 31, which I found and bought. The 31 wasn't wide enough and I just found the 77 a little too long. Go figure.
After all the rambling, I have the thought to go a year with just the kit lens and 43 to see what happens, but at the same time I'm also thinking a 21 might be nice to try..................... :)

Well, not huge compared to say a canon 24-70 I realize, but huge compared to the limiteds that I had gotten used to without realizing how used to them I'd gotten. Make sense?

Hehehe, Buddha Jones & Igilligan, I already sold the 31 and 77 a few weeks back. The 43 is a keeper though. I'm just loving it for so many uses. I guess I should just stop looking at alternatives and just accept that I pretty much go to this lens for most of the shots I do, and the kit lens fills in pretty much anything else I'm needing these days.

These shots don't have that look. Go look through the pbase pics and maybe you'll see what I'm referring to. I'm so used to seeing such warm, contrasty and vibrant pics from pentax glass, that I was just surprised when I looked through most of the shots on pbase. I came away underwhelmed by the 50-135 is all. On the other hand, the 16-50 shots on pbase show much better.
Thanks for the replies and linked pics as it must really have been user error as noted above.

Just got mine today from egordon, and while it is a fine lens I immediately put it back up for sale. I guess I've become too accustomed to the small ltd primes as I just wasn't expecting how huge the lens would be. I love my 43 ltd so much that I'm pretty much never taking it off, and after forcing myself to take about 50 shots with the tammy 28-75 tonight, I can safely say that I actually preferred having just my 43 on the camera. So, I put mine back up on the forum for sale tonight. :)

Lens Sold to Stoosh - Thank you
Call me crazy, but I just received this lens today from egordon, and while it is minty and takes a very nice picture, I didn't expect or didn't prepare for how large the lens actually is. After some very thorough testing tonight taking all of about 50 pics of my son, as much as I thought the zoom would be ideal due to zoom versatility, I just find that I'm still preferring the 43 limited to anything else, and constantly keep reaching for it over anything else.
This was supposed to replace my 31, 43, 77 trio, but quite honestly I think what trying it has done is shown me that I've become a one lens man with the 43.
Comes with Minty Lens, original caps, hood, box (minus UPC symbol) and paperwork. Also has a nice hoya UV filter on. Filter needs cleaning, but lens glass is nice and clean.
Willing to send it out for $275.00 shipped (in US) via fedex ground insured. Outside of US price will depend on shipping costs and location.
Paypal preferred.
Please PM or email me.
Thanks,
Greg

Is it just me or do most of the pictures I've found from this lens look overly dark? I've been reviewing the pics on pbase, some 900+ of them, and they all look like they were shot in poor light. It gives the feeling of looking down a dark tunnel at a lit object.
Maybe it's just me or the specific examples I've seen, but so far I'm not as thrilled as I thought I would be. The 16-50 doesn't show this same look, nor do the various 70/80 - 200 lenses out there.
Has anyone else noticed this? Are there better pools of pics with this lens to review?
Thanks,
Greg

You'll probably get tons of pics per charge on a K20D, but one suggestion I'd make is to try to get more smaller memory cards rather than a few big ones. Seems like lots of trouble, but if something happens to one, you don't loose all your pics.
Me personally, on this trip I'd take a K20D, 16-50 DA*, 5 batteries, and 10 2-gig cards, a UV Filter on lens when rafting, a circ polarizer, ND filter & Grad ND filter. And if it's available in time, maybe the DA* 300.
I probably wouldn't be taking a laptop or storage device as you'll also be spending time rowing and enjoying the trip, so my guess is that 20 gig of purposeful shots will be plenty.
If you can find some sort of solar trickle charger, it's worth a try but I'd probably not go relying on it. Keeping everyting dry will be important, so I'd probably get one of the waterproof lowepro backpacks, a pelican case, or some other sort of dry storage case. A handful of ziplock bags would be worthwhile.
I'd probably take a gorillapod also for times I needed some sort of camera holding device, unless you have room for a more formal tripod.
However, I wouldn't be taking the 4x5, so I'd be getting by with this kit for everything.
