Got it back and fixed now. Was sent to pentax in Germany. It WORKS once again. Price for the fix was quite steep, the same as used lenses here @ 360€, but it is as good as new. They seem to have fixed the jammy zoom as well, that kept getting stuck at 80-90 range. Lets see how long the thing lasts.

Saw the sun coming out for a second during the "polar winter". Classic morning bog shot.
DA12-24 @15mm f9 + Cokin gradient.

Went to a bog hike with -15C this weekend for some nature-time with our company. Didn't think that I would use the DA*55 at all, but kind-of forgot to take it out of the bag (thought I'd use the 60-250 instead).
Glad I did forget, I got some very very good portraits and on top of that, this tiny little fellow popped out.
I quickly threw the HD1.4x on the DA*55 without thinking and it delivered!! SDM was fast and silent enough to get this guy in focus event with the TC.
I was kinda in the same spot as you. I thought over 43 55 77 and even the 31. All of these are very different lenses, but in the end, I'm totally happy with my decision.
I never want to take the DA*55 off the camera. If I *have to* change the lens, I always find myself thinking, would I be able to use the 55 for that shot instead so I wouldn't have to take it off :D.
PS. I have no experience with the 43 tho.

Have had some time with the DA*55 now (pretty much polar-winter still here, so only terribly low light/flash photos) and even in utterly horrible lighting, it is nearly impossible to take bad photos with it. I would recommend highly. Haven't tried the 35mm macro though, but I really like the focal length with my DA(L)35 f2.4 on the crop sensor for walk-around photography and short portraits. Only thing I cant imagine with the 1:1 macro on the 35mm is the short focal distance needed. It's pretty hard to get near enough to macro-wildlife with the 90mm+1.4tc for me :D. This is only from wildlife point-of-view, I guess.

I see your point and I do agree with your thoughts. I bought the M50 1.7 for the purpose of seeing what the fast-fifty is like, but it always felt a tack too long for me. The 3*mm seems perfect, hence why the FA31 "addiction". And to add to it, most of my photos are done in extremely low light, so the longer focal length would require even more light. Having said that, it's possible the 31mm will be to short in the future, when the boy is running around all over the place.
I guess where I'm thinking that if I like the DAL35 as much as I do, then I probably would like the FA31 even more, if that makes any sense?
Yeah, the more logical approach when looking at my gear, would be the FA77, but that is off my reach sadly.
This is another thing I have in mind, that I would like the 31 to compliment the DA12-24 with my landscape addiction. Great shot!
Thanks all for the great answers so far, gives a lot of different perspectives :). Glad I started the discussion.

So... just got the DA*55 and boy, am I very happy with it so far. Extreme low light shooting, and focus is precise and fast. And the rendering... WOW! It has got some special x-factor composed into every image I can tell you that.
The limiteds will have to wait in my case, but for now I'm certain I've got the lens that I desired. The OOF areas are a dream even in low light!
A quick sample I took as one of the first testing images (got some of my best shots yet of my 11m son, but I have a thing with not wanting to post pictures of him to the internet) :
This thread has been so helpful for me, I appreciate everyone's help!

Basically when I was buying the DA[L]35mm, I had already the FA35-70 (that actually is a pretty good lens itself) and a Mir-24 35 mm f/ 2. I very rarely shot the FA35-70 @35mm and I found that the Mir was hard to use.
I didn't really know that I would even use the DA35, but as the local shop had some major sales and my boy was about to be born, I figured why not (it was like 100€ NEW).
Now all of a sudden, I'm using the 35mm range most of the time.
So this absolutely checks out, that the lens defines your focal usage, not the actual focal length itself.
My sigma 400mm f5.6 was rendered absolutely pointless (even though it got me the best photo I have ever taken, a good time to show it off I guess :) ) for wildlife the day I got the 60-250 (and added the HD1,4x later), despite the focal length difference.
I guess that is normal photographic evolution. I don't see it that way, that I'm duplicating the focal length, instead I'm evolving to another level.
But still haven't decided tho. I'll probably call the guy in the weekend and see in what condition the lens is.

Called the 31mm guy, he did not take my call, so had some time to go through my gear a little bit.
So played with different focal lengths a little and found out (like many here also noted out) that the 31 would not give me that much extra ( and I really really like the DA35) and not planning going FF any time soon.
So long story short... I did something completely insane and ordered the DA*55. New, but at a very good bargain. Will take a few days till it gets here.
I'm hoping the DA*55 would compliment my DA*60-250 on the shorter side.
Why not the DA50 you ask? I'm hoping the DA*55 will have some of the 9 blade pixie-dust, I guess.
I do hope I did the right call. The SDM and all-weather ruggedness are huge arguments as well for me when comparing with the limiteds. ---------- Post added 12-30-2017 at 07:03 PM ---------- Called the 31mm guy, he did not take my call, so had some time to go through my gear a little bit.

Can't go wrong with the DA35/2.4. Excellent for its price.
