Anyone else miss the K200D?

My K200D got used again for the first time in several years after my K5 has apparently died (will attempt to troubleshoot sometime). Still works great although I feel there is a bit of a dropoff in quality from the K5. I have been waiting for the K3 replacement and am back on the forums looking for any news. It appears that there still isn't any news. Looks like I will be using the K200D for a couple of months at a minimum since I have other big expenses to take care of first.

I also used my K200D last weekend. It looks like my K5 is now deceased. The K200D still takes nice photos but I can tell a difference between it and the K-5. I have been looking forward to the K-3 successor (new sensor) for some time and hope to hear an announcement soon.

How many APSC shooters will truly upgrade to K1

I was pretty excited about FF Pentax when it was rumors but I doubt I will get one. I use my camera for hiking and my favorite and most used lens is the DA15. Many of my DSLR hiking friends complain about how large their cameras (and lenses) are but the K5/DA15 doesn't bother me while hiking. The other problem is that if I upgrade then I will be buying new lenses. And then filters to go with them. And then a new tripod since mine is fine for a K5/DA15 but not the K1 with a larger lens.

I am also in a perpetual state of brokeness from traveling so much. Hopefully I will be able to buy the new APSC model in a year or whenever it comes out.

I have been broke (and busy) for the last 2-3 years so I haven't kept track of prices. What is the story of the price decreases? Re-evaluation of their high prices that they tried to implement a few years ago? Devaluation of the Japanese Yen? Something else?

I want one of everything but I am still a bit broke though. I can start planning for the next purchase though.

New APSC Pentax by early 2016, using Sony A7000 sensor?

I am hoping that this comes out earlier in 2016 rather than later. My original K-5 (purchased 2ish years after launch) is getting a little worn and I think I will stay with APSC. It's not the price of the FF camera, it's the new LBA that would kill me. I could use my K24 but... I would have to get a new zoom. I would need... APSC is better. APSC is better. APSC is better. for me.

DFA 20 or 24 f2.8 WR - could redesign the FA24f2
update on the 31/43/77

I don't need a completely WR lens but at least put the rubber gasket to protect the camera on $1000 lenses.

28mm or 28-80mm zoom?

FA28f2.8 for autofocus

or the A/M28f.28 (same but MF) are much cheaper

or the A/M28f2 if you have more money and want a larger aperture.

The old affordable zooms will have a hard time matching the IQ and simply won't match the apertures of these lenses

I doubt you will feel like using the FA50 if you have the FA43. The DA*55 is a little bit different story though. I'm not sure I would be concerned about SDM failures on the DA*55. I was under the impression that it was the zooms that were heavily affected by the SDM failures and the primes rarely had any failures.

I am due for a new body (still using an original K-5 from 2011ish). I also have the lenses but spending big money on a new body justifies getting new lenses also. And I am %^$@#$%. I'm still not sure I will go FF since I like the portability of APSC and I love my DA15.

my FF lineup
K24f2.8
K35f3.5 and my DA40
A50f1.7
DFA100WR
with a pile of other lenses and a 35/50/105/200 takumar set to play with

I would need the new kit zoom at a minimum. I would really like a 20/24mm WR prime and a DA*300mm for the reach. And in the ideal world I would get 1 of everything else...

The dream kit
Wide prime WR
DFA43 WR (updated)
DFA77 WR (updated)
DFA100WR macro (I have)
DA*300
24-75f2.8 WR zoom or something in that range

I might as well just buy the next APSC because I can't afford that list.

It doesn't have to be big. The M20f4 was tiny. Why didn't I buy one of those 2-3 years ago when I had money and a bad case of LBA?

I made a 2nd flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/73857303@N03/ because we lost contact with the password. The password is the name of this forum and I have posted this info every month or so in this thread.

For a brief time I blogged the photos but I got too busy and after awhile people stopped sending any info with the pics.

We went about as far into Taiwan's mountains as you can (electricity and roads reached this area in the 90's) a couple of weeks ago. Lucky for us we had great weather but it rains almost all of the time here.

I was talking more about how the DA15 is necessary for an APSC shooter since there aren't many other wide angle options. People can setup the rest of their kit to be FF compatible but they are probably going to have to pick a non FF lens for the wide angle.

I would probably pick a 20mm lens since it would create better spacing from the plentiful 28's, the magical 31 and the 35's. Of course I don't own a 20 because they are also more expensive (not ridiculously so) than the 24's. I'm also struggling to fit everything into the frame with the DA15 so being a little wider (20mm on FF) would be a benefit for me.

Definitely the DA15 for me. I only have the DA15/DA40 and I would love to have all of them especially the FA's but there really isn't another option for what I do. The DA15 isn't perfect but it's small, wide and takes outstanding landscape photos.

I would like to get the DA20-40 sometime and it could become a favorite I don't know that yet.

I also have to give a little shout out to the DFA100WR 'limited' consideration (near the beginning). This is an outstanding lens and shares many characteristics with the DA limiteds.

24mm on film if I already have a 28?

I think the prices reflect the supply of these lenses rather than the quality. Are Pentax 24's better than Pentax 28's? Probably not but there are millions of Pentax 28's out there keeping the price low on them. But the Pentax 24's are still fairly reasonably priced and a 24 does change the FOV a fair amount so it's reasonable to buy one.

If you shoot APSC a lot then there aren't a lot of options for FF compatible wide angles. The A/K 15mm is just a completely different beast (huge, huge front element, no filter threads) for example.

Unfortunately the sun hit the top of the waterfall but this was quite a find 2 weeks ago.

I think it's always nice to have a WR zoom to go with a WR camera even if you don't use it very much. Same is true of an old manual fast fifty. The problem is deciding just how many other lenses that you 'need'.

I thought most CPL's only reduced light by about 1 stop (1.5 stop max). I think it would be really difficult to make a CPL that was 1 stop less light than that.

I don't know why but I buy B+W CPL's and Hoya ND filters. I avoid slim designs since they usually don't have threads in the front and some end up wider (interfering with hoods).

All of the photos are supposed to get uploaded to the flickr account - Flickr: travelingniftyfifty's Photostream (the password is the name of this forum) There was even a website for awhile The Traveling Nifty Fifty | Under Construction

I tried to run the project for awhile but my personal life (business) got in the way. the problem is that most (75%) of the recipients are quite diligent about the project but the rest completely forget even if they currently have the lens. I should have expected this but when I got busy my own photography was pushed aside and I certainly wasn't going to be nagging people to follow the process. the sad thing is that the process isn't even that complicated. Get the lens, take photos, let the organizer know that it's time to mail it and mail the lens. And then post photos to the nifty fifty flickr with some small captions.

The M*300 (or A*) is within your price range and is supposed to be pretty good. One of the problems with these are the long min focus distance.
