I thought it wasn't too bad to start with. Are you looking for something like this? |

To be completely honest, I've never understood the fascination with standing around taking pictures of rulers or charts ad infinitum. What does that prove? If I missed the focus, chances are it's just because I'm old and don't see as well as I used to. That's what's so great about digital--I'm not obligated to save every picture I take. So if one turns out blurry, I just trash it. Who's to know but me? When the first energy efficient lightbulbs came out, my husband rushed out to change all our bulbs. Frankly, I never liked them till now, but it does seem to solve the front focus problem or at least mitigate it to the extent that front focus isn't a problem for me since we don't have any tungsten lghts.

I haven't checked lately, but I bought a copy of the K-x manual when I bought my K-r, and it's a great resource. The two cameras aren't really all that different that you can't apply the information to your K-r. It's an informative read!

Battery life has been surprisingly good compared to what I was expecting. I use Live View fairly regularly since it's a great tool paired with the manual lenses. I bought the adapter and filled it with Eneloops, but I've never run out of power with the lithium yet, so it's really untested. I've never felt the need to keep a count of total pictures, so I don't know how many I'm getting. I don't do any event shooting any more, so maybe I just don't take as many shots at one time...

Thanks so much! I'm retired so have more time than sense, and I'm pretty handy with a Dremel tool from my stint with building miniatures, so I think I can do it. In the meantime, this lens has been sitting a looooong time, and I notice the aperture doesn't close down. Is this something I can fix? Or have fixed? He's a wonderful person, and I really want to use the lens regardless of how impractical it might be to get it fixed.

I have been given an absolutely mint Vivitar 35-105mm f3.2-4 lens, serial number 77200890. On the rear of the lens, it says P/K. It has a great screw-on hood. I can't seem to turn up any information on it, except that it was bought for a Pentax camera years ago. It doesn't seem to want to go on my K-r, and I didn't want to force it. Do I need an adapter? If so, can somebody point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I ordered mine not too long after they were released. The first one came with a defective LCD screen so that everything displayed as a shade of sickly green, and the second one came stuck in "M" mode. That's the mode I tend to use 95% of the time, but I like to have the opportunity to change every now and then. The third one is perfect. I've never had any problems with the e-dial on any of the three, and, since we don't have any tungsten lightbulbs left in the house, if it front focuses, I'll never know it. ;) It's a pleasure to use, and the lowlight capabilities are impressive.

I did have to return two defective K-r bodies for some pretty bizarre issues right out of the box, but I have to say I'm very happy with mine. Now, I should point out that we don't have any tungsten lights left in our house, so I can't comment on the front focus issue. I'm sure it's very real, but I'm finding mine sharp enough under any conditions. The compact size and light weight are a bonus.
This isn't great artwork by any means, but I love the way Pentax cameras render color, and the original file is very sharp straight out of the camera.

Wow, thanks for the heads-up, everyone. I had installed it but was busy yesterday and didn't really get a chance to notice any problems. All my photos taken with the new K-r have been in *DNG format since *.PEF hasn't been supported.
Many thanks to whoever it was who posted the downgrade instructions. They worked fine, and I've reset everything back to the way it was before the update and submitted a bug report through Aperture. Oh, well...

I'm afraid you'll need to send it back. It's defective. I had one that did the very same thing. The replacement is perfect.

The first two bodies I received were defective out of the box, but I couldn't be happier with the third. The K5D looks like a great camera, but i just personally wouldn't have done justice to all the extra bells and whistles. We have no tungsten lighting left in our house, so I haven't experienced the focusing problem that seems to plague so many. I would advise you to charge the battery and check the camera thoroughly, though. My first one had a defective LCD, and the dials just spun and never engaged on the second. Neither problem would be especially conducive to a happy gift-giving experience.

Unfortunately, same here. I just received my second K-r, and this one is defective, too. The mode dial just spins, but the camera stays in "M" mode. That's the mode I use most often, but I don't want to be limited to nothing else. Well, time is getting short on the RMA, so I guess I'll just return this one for a refund and stick with my Canons. They're not flashy, but at least they are reliable. No sense believing that the third K-r will be any better.

I've owned a lot of digital cameras since I received my first one as a Christmas gift in 1997, and this is only the second one that hasn't been perfect. Not such a bad average, really, and, after all, the pictures themselves were just great. I'm looking forward to receiving the replacement which should be shipping out today or tomorrow.

Hoping that it could be an easy fix, I did try to adjust the screen, first trying small increments and then pegging it all the way in each of the 4 corners, but, unfortunately, no luck. It just defied me and stayed a sickly green regardless. I also took the battery out for 24 hours... just in case.
Well, this is only the second digicam I've ever owned since 1997 (out of many) that has had any problems whatsoever, so I guess I was due. Already got an RMA and shipped it back, and I'm hoping they're still in stock when it arrives back at the vendor.
I was very happy with the quality of the photos themselves, and the camera itself is great to carry around.

I received my K-r from Newegg and, darn, the LCD displays everything a sickly green. I even removed the battery for 24 hours hoping it would reset. Before RMAing it back, I couldn't resist trying it out. I'm really happy with it. The pictures themselves, even at high ISO, are outstanding. Noise cleans up easily. The camera Is very lightweight and easy to carry. I'm hoping the replacement arrives quickly. Has anyone else run into this issue?

I like digital cameras a lot and have to admit I did take advantage of the Newegg discount, but if it came to a choice between the two, I'd have to pick the new Mac. Prices of the new camera models will continue to fall, I'm sure. In the meantime, a computer is something you use for multiple hours every day. If your desktop/laptop is really behind the times and you still want the new camera, another alternative is to buy a Mac Mini for not a lot of cash. The new ones are very competent, too.
