If you are saving a camera with plans to sell it at a reasonable value , sell it now. Otherwise take it and enjoy it.

K-3 III tested

The leading photography magazine in Finland Kamera-lehti published a K-3 III test in it´s November issue http://www.kamera-lehti.fi/testit
All in all a very positive report. It is really a long time since I have seen a Pentax DSLR being praised for its AF performance! Other things they liked were ergonomics, user interface, and the wide range of functions and features. The solid construction was also mentioned.
As you might expect they were not exactly impressed with the video capabilities and the fixed rear display.

They also tested the DA 18-135 F3.5-5.6 ED AL(IF)DC WR. Light and sharp with some chromatic aberration especially at longer focal lenghts.

Camera straps for a wedding photographer

The photographer hired for my niece’s wedding had a leather strap system for two DSLR, and it looked good and seemed very functional. I didn’t get to talk to her about it, but I would consider the same for fashion as well as function.

K-3 - Setting the focal length of a full frame lens

It does not matter what format the lens is designed for, focal length of the lens is always the same.
It is only FOV that change between FF and APS-C, focal length on the lens does not change.

So you do not have to care of what focal length the lens communicate to the camera, as it should always be the same no matter what sensor size the camera has.

Just as when you manually input focal length it should always be the actual focal length of the lens.

Dear colleagues, you can congratulate me.
I bought just such a kit and in the near future I plan - if time permits - to conduct a comparative test against the "usual" K-3, and in addition, a comparison of lenses: * 2.8 / 11-18 vs 2.8 / 14 vs Sigma 10-20. I can also add * 2.8 / 16-50 on short focus if interested.
I just need to go for the rest of the photographic equipment, because of circumstances I have it in another city now.

The biggest news here is that Ricoh paid for a piece of US oriented advertising.

Awesome that they highlighted the edge-extract focus peaking. Matthias Burling is the only other person I've seen show it off and it's a great feature.

I hope you like them :)

It is been lots of fun !!!! Yet 4 days working very hard and only being able to get to the pitlane for 1 hour a day unfortunatelly due to our type of photo-pass.
Yet also I have found very dissapointing is that Canon and Nikon bring lenses and a sensor cleaning service, but Pentax does not bring anything so you can't borrow any lenses and you have to use your own private gear.

The gear I have used here has been the following one:

Pentax K3 Silver
Pentax K5

Sigma 17-50mm f2.8
Pentax DA 50-135mm f2.8
Sigma 100-300mm F4

Pentax F 1.7x

Unfortunatelly i forgot my Pentax F* 200mm f2.8 at home every day.

I have found a big shame not being able to try and work with bigger lenses borrowed from the brand itself, but things go as they go I guess.

Hope you like them!

K-3 Battery discussion Generic/Original

Several weeks ago I've checked my batteries with K3 and the internal flash on full power.

Every 20s I took a picture until the camera turned off. Focus, flashpower, time and aperture were set to manual, no livewiew.

Result:
* With the three batteries of Pentax (1860 mAh) I got the most shots. The number of shots were similar, even though using time was very different.
* With the two batteries of DSTE (2800mAh) I got less shots, even though they are only one year in use and should have more capacity.
* With the three VHBW batteries (1300mAh) I got fewest shots, but they are much older than the DSTE.

Your DNG file contains all the colour information you need. It simply has the JPEG settings added on to it by default but these can be removed.

Note Well: you can use a flatscreen as a monitor

I've asked this question in the K-50 forum, and found my own answer: What I did was hook up a cable from the camera to the AV input of the flatscreen, (or probably any TV that would have AV inputs). I only used the V (yellow) port. The flatscreen acted like a giant monitor for movie mode; also showing the actual back info of the camera when in other modes, such as P, or other selections. When taking a still, the results are also shown for the instant on the 'monitor', just like the back info on your camera. In fact the back info of the camera is shown as a default, just like you would be looking at your camera. You may be limited as camera distance to the 'monitor', but it works! I didn't use the available USB connection that was part of my cables, just the yellow, V, input.

Second this. It may not give you perfect accuracy like doing a custom one with the XRite will, but they're great for controlling the overall character of the image.
