Same Findings for me! I use all three FA limited lenses with no cropping on the original Fujifilm 50s.
I have probably tried every 35mm Pentax lens I own (which is many) and, not surprisingly, there are definitely plenty that don't "work", but I was also surprised how many do. Pretty common for the corners to get soft and to have varying levels of vignette in corners... but sometimes you can even just embrace it... I have taken a few lovely images with the 15mm f3.5! Yeah the corners are black, but it almost starts to get the full fisheye look, except with less distortion in the circle.
Granted, it would probably be silly to only own the camera to adapt the 35mm lenses, but with native GF and, especially, Pentax 67 and 645 lenses, it is a lot of fun!
Plus, Fujifilm does a good job passing along lens focal length in EXIF data (if manually added by user) and, in the new models, you can even add lens names in camera and it passes the info through in the EXIF! I love Pentax, but I have also enjoyed using this camera along side (and with) my Pentax gear.
Cheers!

I have an A series 50mm f1.2 lens that had its aperture lever sawed/dremelled off right at the mount (I assume it was to adapt to Canon DSLRs.)
Obviously it works fine otherwise and I have lived with it for 5+ years so it is not the biggest deal. My question: if I wanted to replace this lever (perhaps myself) would I need one from another 50mm f1.2 lens or could I use one from a 50mm f2 lens (much cheaper and easier to come by?)
Also, for those who know about this stuff, Is this a surgery that a novice can do... or am I better off sending to someone? I wonder if Eric in TN would do this (I've had him CLA my cameras in the past.)
Thanks for any thoughts or help!
- Jeff
PHOTOS: The lens in question is on the right and is next to a A 50mm f1.7. As you can see, who ever did this cut off the "shield" part next to the lever as well... not certain if that is necessary or not... |

I'm not sure anyone would know at this point... but wondering how soon the gift card from B&H can be used? Is it electronic or mailed with the item? In other words, if I were to buy a K-1 mk II, would I be able to turn around and use the gift card on a lens purchase? Just curious... and "thank you" to anyone who can answer! :-)

I love my K-1 but I don’t fully understand the angst and grumpyness that is notable on PentaxForums towards mirrorless. I know that it gets played up as a zero-sum game (DSLRs are dead and only mirrorless will exist in the future) so I guess that could feel threatening. DSLR isn’t going anywhere... especially (it seems) here in Pentaxland. It does seem silly to deny that there are some advantages generally with “mirrorless” cameras but it also seems that just like many types of cameras have coexisted for many decades, so will DSLRs and mirrorless. I think it might turn out to be short-sighted for Ricoh to not offer (read: not REPLACE) a mirrorless as that cuts out a segment of photographers who will look for that... but as we know, their resources are what they are so they push forward. No one will pry anyone’s DSLR out of their hands. Again, not sure where the concern comes from.
And since it was mentioned, I think the Panasonic S1 is actually the mirrorless camera that Is most like Pentax of all released (maybe the one they should have made, mount aside.) it’s built like a tank, stabilized sensor, overall good ergonomics, highest res EVF on the market (I could focus all my old manual lenses with accuracy at eye-level.) Sure, it won’t be for everyone and just like the K-1 won’t be either, they don’t have to. They legitimately have their own place.

Testing my MX-1, I found that the bulb stopped after 30 secs, no matter how long I held it down... maybe it’s a setting that I missed but that was my xperience.

He has also reviewed the KP and Q system. A straight forward user-experience look at the camera.

This is about what they’ve been going for on eBay... with, of course, the added “bonus” that it is from Keh (generally good rep) vs someone unknown on eBay.
In 9+ years on this forum, I have never seen one in the marketplace... I might have missed one but I don’t think there have ever been many.
I’ve been watching this particular one but... despite wanting it, it is so hard to justify at that price. But that is the price of admission at this point and there’s no chance of it getting cheaper in the future. I, like Monochrome, opted to put my budget towards the new 50mm.
I certainly hope that who ever ends up with it posts some photos here... photo samples (especially on modern cameras) are basically nonexistent (which makes evaluating its potential/value even harder to determine.) ---------- Post added 07-31-18 at 09:44 PM ---------- By the way, I still absolutely love my F 135mm 2.8, which gives lovely color and out-of-focus backgrounds.

That is the heart of it though, isn't it? I mean, both OVF and EVF have their pluses and EVF's have gotten good enough where they don't distract from the process (at least for me.) I'm not saying that I want the next K-1 to have an EVF, but in a perfect world, I would love for Pentax to give me an EVF (camera) option. I am one of those people who has a ton of Takumar, M, and A series lenses and I can work with them with live view, but there are plenty of times where I would prefer to focus at eye-level. I would also rather give my $$ to Pentax vs buying other (Sony) options.
First world contemplations, I know.

Sinister: I know its back from the beginning of the month, but just saw it now. You really hit an evocative look. Makes me think of old postcards. Nice photo all on its own.
Was it Classic Chrome or your own recipe?

As I'm sure you may have read, the nice thing I have found is once you set up everything the way you like, you really rarely have to go all the way into the menus to change the things you need on a daily basis. The super control panel is your friend.
Ask questions here if you get stuck on anything.

I appreciate you sharing. While Pentax has always been my main system, I had a relative gift me a Konica camera and some lenses over ten years ago. That was just before mirrorless launched and all the old lenses could be adapted to modern cameras so the ebay prices were still very low and not a lot of info was available. I had some fun experiencing a different system but ended up selling most of the lenses after a couple years (did get to try a few on the original Sony A7 and they definitely had their own look to them.)

If only Pentax could offer a firmware update that would allow the camera to do a different "light show" depending on which lens you mount.

And just to note, I have tried the new D-FA 50mm on the K-01 and it works just fine... at 1.4 (unlike the older lenses, it is not completely stopped down when idle, it is aperture wide-open.) So, as long as you don't mind all your shots being wide-open, it works fine on the K-01. Auto focus is noticeably quicker, even on that body. Lens is sharp right from 1.4, so really no issue.
Some MIGHT argue that if you're paying this much for a lens, why would you shoot it at anything other than f1.4 (half said in jest.) ---------- Post added 07-27-18 at 11:56 AM ---------- As noted by others though, the size is not small... though to be honest, not as terribly unbalanced as you might imagine. Realistically though, I doubt I would find MANY reasons to use the new lens regularly (on the K-01) over the excellent DA* 55mm which, at least with my copy, is about 90% of the new lens but at around $400 (or under... an amazing bargain compared to what I paid years ago.)
(and though a very small difference, I've always liked 55mm vs 50mm...)

That is what the AW is for...
In fairness, I have found that while some of my lenses might be AW, my body (person, not camera) is not always up to full AW status.
Hope the lens gets sent out soon for you all.

Love (for what they are) both the MX-1 and Q system. And while I would love to see an update to the MX-1, I don't think that is where the industry is at this point. Even with it being (partly?) outsourced, Olympus never made a follow up to their model that the MX-1 shared so many specs with and really, nobody else is making them either. Seems like the Sony RX100 series is about the only thing really out there. Also add in the seemingly limited production capabilities of Ricoh and at this point I'm just hoping to see another Q camera some day...
Fortunately my existing kits of both are still working so I guess I will be content.
