hmmm didnt go so well so decided to take it back to cr kennedy (Pentax Supplier for AUS)
Will be back in two weeks
Not good since i need it pretty much everyday :S

downloaded it straight from the pentaxforums.com homepage.
I will try today 1. Clean the contacts 2. Reset the Camera 3.Redo the firmware with a new card will let you know how it goes.

Just recently installed firmware v1.03 i followed all the instructions to the file,
I started using my camera today and these are some of the crazy spasms that my K5 has been having. (Note that all these problems are only appearing on the rear lcd screen.)
The metering changes from matrix to center-weighted very randomly changing back and forth, the same goes for auto focus to manual focus.
also when in the menu trying to change settings etc it has freak outs where the screen goes black and sometimes back and forth from the home screen to the menu.
Also very oddly when i start the camera up its asks for me to input the focal length but doesnt let me select anything and then after a few seconds goes straight to the home screen.
I am very worried this is definantly not normal!
Only started having problems once i updated from the factory firmware 1.01, since going to 1.02 and now at 1.03 its started having these problems and as said before I followed to install instructions that come with the firmware download.
PLEASE HELP!

Yes I am very glad :) Get 1.02 outa here! My k5 was not happy on 1.02 its auto focus was terrible and at one stage had to reset the camera because it was having freak outs! It kept changing the metering mode and changing from auto focus to manual with out me touching a button well on the screen that is but still !!! Hopefully 1.03 is much more kind :)

Purchased a K5 in december in Aus

Looking for a REALLY wide angle lens for architecture and doing shoots in homes etc.
Any K Mount lens doesnt have to be pentax.
Some recommendations would be helpful and very much appreciated :)
My Max out would be at about $1300 Does that give me plenty of options?

Whenever taking a video with my k5 if i zoom in and out and then focus the camera makes a very rapid shaking sound almost like the mirror is flickering up and down really fast its so loud you can hear it in the video clip :S
Using K5 with Sigma 17-70

Opinions on the Sigma 14mm f2.8 Ive just seen one for $350 aus and thought it is a fairly cheap price for a nice wide angle. Im not looking for a perfect picture out of it just to get decent shots, is it worth the $350 or am i wasting my time?

Is it worth splurging out $900-1000 on a new pentax 14mm or 12-24mm
or rather do just go the sigma im not looking for pure perfection just to get a decent picture
The sigma is $300 second hand and in veryyy good condition?
Your opinions?

Thankyou all for your help very much appreciated,
The 2 lenses that seem to be mentioned a fair bit here are both the sigma 17-70 and the pentax 16-45 ill probly go with the sigma as it has a slightly longer range and $90 cheaper.

Looking around the K5 will only cost me about $400 more than the K7
And if I wait till early next year the price should drop futher veryyy relieved!:)

I just finished highschool (yr12) and we were the last year to use the darkroom, the school said that film is irelevant to the new ciriculum, WTF. Almost every course I have looked at film is no where to be seen in the ciriculum.
I started off with a fuji digital camera but then my mum gave me her pentax sp with 2 zoom a wide angle and 2 standard lenses. There is somthing about film that makes it that bit more fun being able to experiment and having to wait to see the results.
This course it is compulsory to have a DSLR and macbook looks like my car will have to wait :S

To be honest I am not really sure what field I want to go into yet and I dont have any particluar style :S
bit of landscape,sports,architectural not keen on heading into food or fashion.
The main reason for choosing pentax is that you can buy old lenses to experiment/learn and only cost $50-$300 very cheap compared to nikon or canon!
I have got into contact with my teacher and explained my reasons he said to do some research, he said pentax is fine! :)
K7-$1300 , K5 around $2800 both with 18-55mm AL WR kit lens.
The K5 is around double the price of the K7 and looking at the comparison: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-camera-articles/115455-pentax...-compared.html only real diffrence is 2 more mp 2 more frames per second and better iso.
Is it really worth spending double?

I was sold on the k7 but now the k5 has just been relased is it really worth forking out the money, im not using the camera for any "specific" work.
