When I was looking around for my first non P&S camera I was drawn towards Canikon since that's what you see everywhere.
The employee at our local camera shop told me about Pentax and the fact that it has the widest range of lenses due to backwards compatibility.
I started researching Pentax, found this site, saw that the K-x was pretty much the best beginner DSLR on the market.
2 months later I bought one. got a 28-80 Sigma macro lens on ebay for $35 and a Ricoh Rikenon XR 50mm f2.0 for $25.
I don't regret my purchase one bit.
Also, I liked the feel of the k-x better than D3000/D5000 or T1i/T2i when I was trying them out. Bonus.

I got a 50mm f/2.0 Ricoh Rikenon XR for $25 locally after browsing through Kijiji (craigslist type website)
Full manual, REALLY sharp and fun to play with. Takes real nice pics of my son.

I paid 50 or 55 dollars (Canadian) for a Pentax branded bag at a local photography store.

I shoot in RAW and while viewing the pictures I took in the Pentax software I will delete the RAW files I don't like and right click on the ones I do like and "create JPEG" from them.
I then save the jpeg in my regular pic folders for quick viewings and save the RAW files elsewhere.

I don't know if I have a freak camera but I'm loving my battery life.
Got the k-x in November and checked the shutter count about 2 weeks ago and it read 937.
I'm well over 1000 shots while using the flash about 50% of the time and reviewing pics on the LCD quite a lot.
Oh, this is all using the original lithium batteries that came with the k-x and updated firmware.

What a beautiful picture.
When I was first presented the k-x at the camera store I was a bit put off that it took AA batteries since the last P&S camera I had that took AAs would last about 15 pictures before having to change them.
I went to dpreview and saw that the k-x will take almost the same amount of pics with AA batteries than a Nikon or Canon with Lithium batteries.
I'm still on the original Energizers that came with it since I got the k-x 3 weeks ago and still have a full green battery indicator.
I'm also very pleased with this camera

Hi,
I bought this k-x as my first dslr, or slr camera for that matter, about 2 weeks ago and have been loving it.
I wanted to try taking a really low light picture for fun and this is what I got.
This is my 20 month old son sleeping. There was barely enough light to get the AF to work and I couldn't MF because I could barely see anything in the viewfinder.
I managed to brace myself well enough on his crib to get a 3 sec shutter handheld
Shot with kit lense at 24 mm, f7.1, 3sec, iso 1600. There is no post processing.

Hi,
Just got a k-x for me and my wife as a Christmas gift.
I have been lurking these forums for about a month now and it like it a lot.
It played a big part in my decision to get the Pentax over a Canon t1i (on sale for $599.) as the Canon forums are HORRIBLE.
I hope that someday I will be able to take such stunning pictures like the ones I have seen from other members on this site.
Here is a picture of my son last night while we were raking up leaves.
