K5 vs K30?

Im going numpty on everyone here
If you upgrade from a k-x, then either camera will be a nice upgrade for you.
Yes, you can look at the spec sheets, I did this and was tying myself up in knots over what to do as I had wanted a K5 for such a long time, but liked the better Af and focus peaking of the K30.
I had a sensible moment and went for the K30 and I don't regret it for a minute, superb little camera and I have become addicted to using manual glass with the focus peaking - a whole world of cheap fun..
The only thing I miss is the exanded bracketing for HDR, otherwise I am over the moon with my K30

Something went wrong here, I accidently slipped out of F1.2 and realised that this lens takes some lovely images.
Revue Revuenon MC 55mm F/1.2 at I think F8 or F11 on a sony A7rii

This and my SMC K 30mmF2.8 are my most used lenses on my A7

I have to admit to feeling slightly guilty every time I pick up my sony, but for me the EVF is just so much fun. I have only ever used 2 lenses on my Sony, my Revuenon 55m F1.2 and my k 30mm F2.8. I just love the manual focus aids, especially for the 55mm at F1.2 or F1.4, I get more keepers now.
The moment Pentax bring out an EVF camera that is half decent, I will be all over it as I love their ergonomics and menus.

This and the universal lens mount via adapters is the killer point for me. Im ashamed to admit that I haven't touched my K30 since buying my A6000, not even turned it on once, it is on the shelf still loved but unused :o

On the plus side, Im taking more photo's than ever, the redeeming bit being that the EVF has brought all my old manual Pentax glass back to life, I have completely fallen in love with my K30mm F2.8 and my Revuenon 55mm F1.2 is ridiculously easy to focus at F1.2. When I go out now, these are my goto lenses that I always take with me.

I still prefer the ergonomics of my K30, but (for me) manual glass was always a pain on the Pentax, on my Sony it just feels intuitive, even if it slows the process down slightly.

Strangely the whole FF announcement has passed me by, I looked when it was announced, saw no EVF and lost interest, Im addicted to the manual focussing aids that the EVF gives me for old glass, Im lusting after an A7II or A7R II as the better EVF and stabilisation are all I want now.

In the meantime I will keep an eye out for old K Mount glass as I still love the look that Pentax glass has, there is something special about it that I can't put into words. I can't see me buying another Pentax camera unless they do an EVF, but any camera I do buy will be bought for the purpose of shooting with K mount glass so I still see myself as a Pentaxian and Im still a Pentax fan

Snapped opportunistically on my a6000 with my revuenon 55mm, then transferred via WhatsApp from my wifes phone to mine before uploading here, Sony do not support WP yet...
I like it, as apart from it being my wife, the rendering complements the natural softness in her expression and captures (for me) part of what I treasure about her

I'm still learning to nail focus at F1.2, but I kinda like the look it gives here and once I get home I will look at the full size pic and maybe edit but for now this was the only way to share it quickly without waiting until next week when we get home..

Not sure whether I will like it, but Im willing to give it a go for a while.
As someone who was firmly embedded in the MS world, I have no idea what are the must have programs?
Im installing office and capture one pro, what else is good in the apple world?

This is it for me, My K30 is more comfortable to shoot with, but my a6000 has given me far more use as it is just so easy to use manual glass with. My hit rate for nailing focus at F1.2 is nearly 100%, and I love buying old lenses for next to nothing knowing that I can use them easily now. I still prefer OVF, but the Sony EVF with focus assist has bought the fun back into taking pictures. I find myself going for walks more because I have an idea for a shot with one of my cheapo lenses that I want to see if it will work like I think it will in my head.

Heie, I have no idea if you really know what you are talking about when it comes to tripods, but I respect your photography, and admire your obvious enthusiasm for this device, so I have ordered one based purely on your review.
Take that as a compliment, as it means I trust your judgement enough to spend more on this than I ever have for a tripod before having only ever bought cheap tripods as I don't use them enough.
Im trying to develop my night-time cityscape skills as my winter task and a portable decent quality pod that I can carry around with me has become essential, and after your review this seemed a no brainer..
Don't worry, I won't blame you if it all goes horribly wrong!!

I really fail to see the point of this - don't like the pricing then don't but them, it is hardly rocket science...

First 50mm manual lens?

Well an interesting day was had, I took over 200 shots, no keepers, but did learn a few things
Museums are maybe not the best place to take photo's for me
The 50mm was a bit too long indoors
90% of stuff was behind glass with all the issues with reflected people - all the summer tourists, so there were not any quitter moments
The WB changed from room to room

However, manual focussing wasn't quite the disaster I thought it would be..
I tended to shoot on the wider end of the scale due to the low light and to keep the ISO below 800 wherever possible - need to change that habit as there were a few shots that definitely needed more DoF
I know that some of my settings were just plain wrong, but I have more of an idea how some things fit together now
I did enjoy myself, already have my eye on a manual 28mm lens :-)

Shot 3/4 of the way on my ride to work with my Canon S95 ;)
I think this might be the first photo I have ever posted here...

The newer model Canon S100
Canon PowerShot S100 12.1 MP Digital Camera - Black 5244B001

This photo was all about the light, it was a beautiful pink sunrise and I just had to stop after I glanced across the bridge and saw the view.
This is also an example of how much I need to learn, I never even noticed the boat or the wonky horizon, I was too busy focussing on the power station and how I wished I had my K20 with me that day but on a 14 mile cycle ride it is too much weight for everyday use.
Maybe I will go back and take a midday shot one day so you all can see just how different it looks normally, as the light was truly amazing that day..
I should add that this is completely untouched in any way, straight out the camera..

Why doesn't Pentax try to give us a real video mode ?

Am I the only one who wished that they would just remove video capabilities from DSLR's altogether?
I wish it was a feature that was treated as a bonus or best effort, as Im getting miffed over the amount of camera's that get marked down for poor video capabilities. Fine, they aren't great for video, but if they take pin sharp pictures, then does it really matter, and if it does, then get a dedicated videocam

Im guessing you can tell I have never used video on a DSLR, though strangely I have hours and hours of the stuff shot with various mobile phones, but have never chosen a phone based on video capabilities as I see that as a bonus too
