Here are a few of my settings/recommendations based on a six years experience of shooting rock concerts with Pentax bodies:
- try to not use AF.C; I'm using AF.S 100% of the time;
- TAv mode, with aperture 2.8 or smaller (if possible) and shutter between 1/320 - 1/160 (for dark halls), auto ISO up to 25k (on K5);
- metering: Multi-segment Metering + Link AE to AF Point focus enabled in custom settings.

I just received the replacement for the previous stained body; SN 40446xx, made on 2011-04-11; it looks good so far :p, with no dust spots or stains.

@K ... stains appear after some K5 usage ... it's not your case.

Hi guys,
After I read this topic a few days ago I thought it would be a good idea to test my K5 (SN: 39944xx, made on 21st of January 2011, replacement for the a first stained body).
And guess what ? It has stains ... Right in the middle, 4 beautiful spots. The body was extensively tested by me in the store when it arrived and it was free of stains (it had just a dust spot). So, it looks like they are developing in time. LV and movie recording weren't used more than a few minutes (for a total of 30 minutes). Shutter count is around 3k.
Two raw files can be found here (non stained / stained).
 I guess I'm a just a very bad luck guy :rolleyes:.

Today I checked in a shop few K5 bodies (two 398xxx and one 391xxx) to replace my 383xxx stained one but with no luck; all three bodies were stained; however, the pattern has changed and the dots are no longer in the middle but near the edges. I wasn't able to get a "string of pearls", only isolated dots with a thin halo around them; they didn't look like dust. The tests were done with different lenses at F22.
Make sure that you check it very well before purchase.

High-ISO NR (Rec. Mode 3) setting is applied just to JPEG files or the RAW files are affected as well ?
