Yvone was a well liked individual who dedicated so much of his time to sharing his knowledge of cameras. When I purchased my K10D many years ago it was Yvon who helped to get around the camera and understand its workings. He responded to a number of my emails answering a wide range of questions.
When Yvon began to travel pulling a trailer all through the US and Canada I followed his exploits on his excellent blog. He will be missed and our community has lost a very special person. RIP Yvon

Last February I was in Whitehorse, Yukon to photograph the Yukon Quest Dog Sled Race. The race started at -35 degrees celsius. As official photographers we were required to be at the start line 30 minutes prior to the start. I was shooting with two cameras, K3 Mark II and a K1 Mark II. My K3 was sporting the DFA 24-70 lens and my K1 was sporting a Sigma 70-200 OS lens. Both cameras and lenses were white from the cold. Both camera and lenses worked flawlessly, although the batteries were a bit of a challenge. Good thing I had lots of extras. At the cold temperatures the lenses worked well, but the zoom rings were stiff to adjust. All I can say is that I was truly impressed with how the equipment handled the extreme weather. A collection of images taken at Yukon Quest can be found at Collection: Yukon Quest |

I've been using Flickr for many years and have uploaded a lot of images to the site. The main reason I use Flickr is because of the Flickr Community. It is the only sharing site that I know of that has so many different user groups that one can participate in. I have learned a lot from other photographers shooting the same equipment as well as facing the similar challenges that I come across when shooting jazz concerts. At this point I have no plans on leaving Flickr, but am certainly concerned about the financial challenges the site is facing.

I'm very much looking forward to the new K? APSC camera. I don't want to get my expectations on features too high as I always do and end up somewhat disappointed with the final product not meeting my high expectations. So, this time I am hoping for much improved focusing., more focus points, improved dynamic range, GPS, Weather sealing, and some new features that are not normally associated with DSLRs., such as in camera focus stacking etc

Last month I sent my K1 Mark II in for some warranty work before the two year warranty expires in the spring. I sure miss it especially when I shoot live music at a local jazz club. However, the good news is that I still have my trusty K3 mark II and I am beginning to appreciate it once again now that it has moved from being my backup camera to my main camera until the K1 returns home.

I do appreciate these responses. It is a consistent problem on the K1 II. It seems to be only my 64gb cards in my K1 II. I'll try the SD Memory Card Formatter to start with and see if that makes a difference. What I have been doing in the meantiime is locking the cards before inserting them in order to prevent any loss of data before I am ready to format the cards in the camera. Will let you know if the SD memory Card Formatter does the trick. ---------- Post added 02-24-2019 at 02:25 PM ---------- So I did download the SD Formatter and gave it a try. I did the reformat and then put the card into the camera reformatted it again and then took a burst of test shots. Put the card into the imac and it downloaded the images into lightroom. When I removed the sd card from the mac, and put the card into the camera the screen said card not formatted. I don't believe this is a static issue. Doesn't seem to be a problem with the K3II. Just tried it and everything was fine.

During the past two years, I have made about $600 US selling my images through Eyeem. Not a lot of money, but each month i receive a payment into my Paypal Account. I upload the images and Eyeem markets them. I get 50% of the sale. I tried selling my images online via other systems in the past and was very disappointed with almost zero sales. At least with the system I'm using now, I do get a small money stream. I use the money to upgrade my software.

I stopped visiting the DPR site about a year ago. Nothing worth viewing or reading there. Writers are only interested in the payoffs for positive reviews that they get from the big boys.

I havent been successful in finding a teleconverter for the Sigma 70-200HSM OS that effectively locks on focus consistently.

I too am impressed with my K1Mark II. I had a successful shoot of the RCAF Snowbirds on Thursday. Camera handled the fast moving jets quite well. Focus was spot on. RCAF Snowbirds | Flickr |

I have a pro account on Flickr. When I heard that SmugMug purchased Flickr I checked SmugMug out. Very expensive membership fees. I'm concerned that my annual pro account fee will increase to the point that I can't afford it. I presently have thousands of images on Flickr. Hate to lose what I like about Flickr. I'm hoping for positives, but may have to move somewhere else.

I just got back from shooting the RCAF Snowbirds at Canadian Forces Base Comox. While the jets were in flight I shot exclusively with my K1Mark II paired with an FA 300 f4.5. Haven't looked at all the images so far, but one thing was certain. The lens never lost focus as it has done frequently on both my K5 and K3MarkII. Focus felt very confident even when shooting moving jets at 1/2000 and 1/4000 sec.

The look of the camera improves the more I look at it, however there are two features missing that as far as I am concerned are must haves on my list of camera features, first a built in GPS and secondly a top screen.

I have four Cactus 5 triggers and have found them to be very reliable and universal when I am in the studio with others using other camera systems. Looking forward to moving onto the newer models in the next year

I just shot a series of up close images of waterfalls this past week. All shots were in RAW, I didn't use pixel shift. ISO was 100 and shutter speed was on average a third of a second or so in order to smooth the water. But guess what? I had motion in the leaves because in any waterfall picture you are going to experience movement of the greenery around the falls when using a slow shutter speed. The falls produces its own climate, there is always wind. DPReviews test was a failure because no camera under those conditions would be able to capture freeze frame action using slow shutter speeds.

The question is "Is this combination fast enough?" The answer is yes. If the conditions are right, the results can be spectacular. Here is a link to my flickr album https://flic.kr/s/aHske3rNaW which contains about 47 out of about 150 images that I took at the set. Many of the images that I did not include are excellent, but are just repetitive or I have included them in other web sites including facebook etc.

Just want to say a few words about Ricoh Canada. Often we read of experiences where members have been frustrated with the service from camera manufacturers including from time to time our own favourite Ricoh. Well my experience this past week has been only good.
Last week I picked up my new K3II from an small independant camera dealer in Vancouver. I don't live in Vancouver but was passing through at the tail end of a vacation. One of our fellow Pentax Forums members works at this store and I have come to have an online friendship with him and felt that I would like to purchase my new camera through his store.
Joy of the new camera was shattered when I went to turn in on and clearly there was something wrong. I contacted the camera store and Jack endeavoured to assist me over the phone, but we soon agreed there was a problem. My dilemma was not that I was from out of town, but the store did not have a second copy, and I was scheduled to be on a photo safari with a group of professional photographers this coming Friday.
The store suggested that they could contact Ricoh Canada and see what they can do. About 30 minutes later I received a call in my hotel room from the Ricoh Canada Product Manager. After a few minutes of discussion, he understood my situation and offered to ship me a new camera immediately and that when I got home I could ship the problem camera directly to him.
Yesterday afternoon, my new camera arrived. It works perfectly. I am most pleased. This camera company came through.
Now I just have to go through one heck of a learning curve before I'm off on Friday for my adventure

I think the big feature with this new body will be an improved focus system that will be able to take advantage of the new lenses coming out.
