I think the second camera will be identical to the first except for the flippy screen. That will result in a camera better suited for video albiet a bit heavier and thicker than the original that has been displayed for the past months. I've learned from previous products to not to have too many expectations.

Yvone was a well liked individual who dedicated so much of his time to sharing his knowledge of cameras. When I purchased my K10D many years ago it was Yvon who helped to get around the camera and understand its workings. He responded to a number of my emails answering a wide range of questions.
When Yvon began to travel pulling a trailer all through the US and Canada I followed his exploits on his excellent blog. He will be missed and our community has lost a very special person. RIP Yvon

With the new IBIS System and the redesigned focus system., I'm just wondering if we may see a Hybrid Camera coming out from Pentax. No one has come out with a DSLR that can also mimic a mirrorless camera. I can only imagine the benefits of having a camera that offers both of the advantages of a DSLR and a Mirrorless camera all in one body. It could very well be a game changer.

Last February I was in Whitehorse, Yukon to photograph the Yukon Quest Dog Sled Race. The race started at -35 degrees celsius. As official photographers we were required to be at the start line 30 minutes prior to the start. I was shooting with two cameras, K3 Mark II and a K1 Mark II. My K3 was sporting the DFA 24-70 lens and my K1 was sporting a Sigma 70-200 OS lens. Both cameras and lenses were white from the cold. Both camera and lenses worked flawlessly, although the batteries were a bit of a challenge. Good thing I had lots of extras. At the cold temperatures the lenses worked well, but the zoom rings were stiff to adjust. All I can say is that I was truly impressed with how the equipment handled the extreme weather. A collection of images taken at Yukon Quest can be found at Collection: Yukon Quest |

The changes in mobile phone camera technology may create a new niche for the 'Q' The sensor is obviously physically larger than the typical mobile phone, and the potential of a dedicated camera with lenses and an array of new features maybe worth while exploring.

I've been using Flickr for many years and have uploaded a lot of images to the site. The main reason I use Flickr is because of the Flickr Community. It is the only sharing site that I know of that has so many different user groups that one can participate in. I have learned a lot from other photographers shooting the same equipment as well as facing the similar challenges that I come across when shooting jazz concerts. At this point I have no plans on leaving Flickr, but am certainly concerned about the financial challenges the site is facing.

I'm very much looking forward to the new K? APSC camera. I don't want to get my expectations on features too high as I always do and end up somewhat disappointed with the final product not meeting my high expectations. So, this time I am hoping for much improved focusing., more focus points, improved dynamic range, GPS, Weather sealing, and some new features that are not normally associated with DSLRs., such as in camera focus stacking etc

What a terrible thing to experience while enjoying an outing. Technology is moving so quickly it is near impossible to develop a perfect strategy to protect your valuables when they are in a vehicle. So sorry that your insurance only covered 50%, but at least you were able to salvage something. Hope you next visit to the area will be without problems.

Well my K1 Mark II came back home from repair on Monday. Nice to have it back. I've put it through a number of tests and it looks like my focus issue has been fixed. Sun Microsystems replaced one of the rubber water seals as well as replaced the back focus button. Seems to have done the job. I can now go back to shooting in the rain.

I received a phone call from the repair depot in Ontario when they received the camera. The rubber seal that was damaged had to be ordered and I was told it would take two weeks to get it. I'm thinking that was three weeks ago, so perhaps they have the camera part now and I will get the camera back before Christmas. At least here's hoping.....

It is always handy to have a backup camera. I do take both cameras with me when I travel. Last February I photographed Yukon Quest the international dog sled race and was able to capture some amazing images. I used both cameras and paired them with the FA 24-70 and my Sigma 70-200 lens. I frequently swapped lenses depending on the job at hand. Usually the longer lens was on the K3 and the shorter on the K1. That way I was able to capture a dog team coming towards me first with the 70-200, fill the buffer and then when the team was close to me switch to the K1 with the 24-70, fill the buffer and then as the team moved away, switch back to the K3 to complete the exercise. Worked perfectly. Here is a link to a sampling of a days photos Yukon Quest Day 4 | Flickr |

Last month I sent my K1 Mark II in for some warranty work before the two year warranty expires in the spring. I sure miss it especially when I shoot live music at a local jazz club. However, the good news is that I still have my trusty K3 mark II and I am beginning to appreciate it once again now that it has moved from being my backup camera to my main camera until the K1 returns home.

I happen to know four people who have shifted from Nikon DSLRs to the new Nikon Z Mounts and they seem quite pleased with them. I don't know of any of my Canon friends who have shifted to mirrorless Canon bodies.

If you ask him to do something for you to improve the image, I would suggest giving the owner your business card and offer them a digital copy of the image. They are always happy to receive photos of their cars.

I'm glad to see you make this post. I have been following Cameraville for some time and have been impressed with his honesty, humour and the detail in which he goes into in each of his reviews. I don't always like what he says but for the most part he is dead on. This latest review is one that I have been hoping for and he shows how the DFA 150-450 shines when compared to the Fuji equivalent. He also demonstrates clearly how good the KP autofocus is compared to the Fuji.
I encourage Pentaxians to check out his youtube channel and give him some likes to encourage him to continue with his reviews.

I often have the same problem when I download images from my K1 Mark II SD cards to my iMac using Lightroom. When I put the card back into the camera almost everytime I get a card not formatted message. I do lock the card everytime before putting it into my computer now in order to prevent corruption of data. I think it is a lightroom problem more than anything,

I have the FA* and love the lens. It is heavy (lots of metal) but it works nicely with my K1 Mark II as well as my K3 Mark II. The lens is very sharp and compact. The biggest issues would be it is not WR and the lens hood. The lens hood is the weakest link. The lugs on the inside of the lens hood wear out causing the hood to dislodge from the lens too easily when in the field. On more than one occasion I lost the hood and had to backtrack on the trail to find it. Replacement lugs are not available and the only option that I found was to replace the hood. After two years of searching, I found an unused one on eBay at an acceptable price. Now when I store the lens I keep the hood loose not connecting it to the body in order to reduce the lugs from premature wear.

Lovely photograph Richard. I love the soft colour ranges on the cactus. Nice sharp foreground. Thanks for sharing.
